People keep saying price cut. A price cut will be good for the consumer, but I don't see one anytime soon or at least not until some time after the next Nintendo console has come out. Nintendo has stated in previous investors meetings, that there are concerns about the various inflation rates across the world and concerns about the weakened exchange rate of the YEN compared to other currencies. These issues have distorted Nintendo's financial numbers and because of those reasons, I do not see Nintendo slashing Switch prices any time soon.
Its pretty insane how a 7 year old console is still doing 7 million units around the holidays, in contrast the Xbox Series consoles did about 7.5 million in all of 2023. The rate that software is selling is even more staggering, 1.2 BILLION?! Mario in general is just killing it, seeing Mario Party sell so many is just crazy. And I'm so happy with the success of Mario RPG!! We need a sequel now, there's no way it doesn't happen. Also hopeful Nintendo will bring back Mario & Luigi in some way.
@QuantumChrist sony isn't really struggling with the ps5 sales wise, they sold 23 million in 2023. I would argue that their first party output is pretty weak compared to the ps4 though so far.
Now let's hope that the Mario and Luigi series will also return. i know alphadream is dead. But Nintendo still has the rights to the Mario and Luigi series
I think the fact the switch is still selling so well works with team 2025. The switch would get one more full year to get to I predict around 148 mil, and then Switch 2 can drop in 2025.
One thing to note about Super Mario RPG for the SNES is that it originally did not have a European release. Obviously, that's not the case with the Switch version, but still. For it to outsell the original is quite impressive. Let's hope TTYD can sell like hotcakes when it releases.
I always figured 15 million units was the ceiling for Switch for FY 2024. These Q3 numbers are better than I expected. Now I’m pretty certain we aren’t getting a Switch successor until at least 2025.
@@therealjaystone2344 yea I know. But the numbers speak for themselves. If a Switch successor comes out, it will probably sell just 10 million in its first year. Switch can still swing 10 million units in sales for another year *without* a price drop. Plus software sales are still close to all time highs. There too much momentum for Switch still. Releasing a new console is always a gamble, but what isn’t a gamble is the Switch still selling well for at least another year. Nintendo ultimately is a business and they would not be smart to release a next gen prematurely.
Your breakdown of the Nintendo switch performance in this video of Nintendo hardware and software sales just further shows me that there's no way Nintendo is releasing new hardware anytime soon, if ever.
It's important to note that during the PS2 era the PC gaming market ate the console market up by a large margin in the west due to the surge that started in the late 90s, but now I notice PC gamers own several current consoles with the improvements of bandwidth for streaming and the popularity that ensued. The PS3 announcement was 5 years after the PS2 release in the west. There are also more factors to consider when breaking down the number comparisons, but good job at any rate.

Why cut the price if you're still profiting as is, a price cut wouldn't really change anything because the switch is still in high demand.
