If you're new around here, Venomoth is a Psychic/Flying type, you can't change my mind. - Игры
NGL, I love your wife's naming scheme. I'm a HUGE fan of just random names. Jerry for Giratina was beautiful.
The picture-in-picture of Blissey's gigantic health bar slowly depleting was gold, please keep doing it
I loved thst thing xD it sure makes me feel like she's the tankiest Pokémon ever.
Fantina’s Mismagius actually got two crits in a row the first time you were using Amnesia! That’s why she broke your substitute with the first magical leaf!
bibarel is the single strongest early game normal rodent. Very underrated and goated mon
and for tips: probably keep rollout longer and also
amnesia + curse is all you need to sweep anything late game.
There is actually a very famous speedrun category using bibarel so you could also take inspiration from there.
well, technically Pawmot, although Lechonk/Oinkologne actually fills the archetype in SV, it's just...not a rodent.
@@dvillines26 pawmot is the pikachu clone for Gen 9, and yeah lechonk isn’t a rodent, so it’s probably maushold. Solid Pokémon, 470 BST and pop bomb/tidy up
Linoone is the strongest
Shame it didn’t get swords dance until a later gen. I actually expected it to perform way better because I didn’t realise it didn’t have access to swords dance in its debut gen.
The wife must be official namer for every pokemon going forward!
I second this, please. Her names were perfectly on point bro, I became jealous of you by her beautiful mind.
Scott's been real quiet since this comment dropped lol
As somewhat of a bibarel enjoyer myself, i will say that rollout is definitely a lot more useful than you may think, and iirc Bibarel learns Pluck which can really help vs Gardenia.
Scott consistently undervalues Rollout. 🤷
Bibarel can also have Simple. That Pokémon can go so hard with set up and luck.
Personally I love your wife's nicknames. Calling Giratina 'Jerry' is hilarious.
I know the feeling. That being said, I always associate the name Jerry with Agahnim thanks to Somecallmejohnny's video review of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. XD
Me when no pluck into grass gym
Hyper Fang and Pluck would do the same amount of damage
@@robertleite6650 Pluck can't miss and it steal da berry. So it could be more usefull than Hyper Fang's flinch chance
Did he forget?
I actually don't mind your wife nicknaming your pokemon. They're cute and random.
His wife should name all his pokemon
On your community post about repetitive phrases someone commented they thought it was a little awkward that you say "the X-type" to avoid repeating a mon's name. Now that they pointed it out, I flinch a little every time you do it.
Btw your wife has great nickname taste!
10:23: It's a good thing players had a lot of options for those [fire types].
* insert the "Tidus Laugh" here *
The Sequel to Oh:
*Oh No!*
I can imagine Scott grinding on some wild pokemon, very photogenic of him. Lol
As a Jerry myself, I definitely approve of an ultra powerful dragon time-worm sharing my name. XD
I appreciate you giving some variety to these playthroughs, so many of these channels just do the same thing every time with little to no changes. You're the only one I can still watch.
Hope Scott picked up Pluck, makes for an easy Gardenia clear.
I could see a Simple set of Curse, Waterfall, Return, Shadow Ball being good for late game. 1 Curse is equal to 2 Bulk Ups
Came to the comments to see if pluck was mentioned, guessing stab hyper fang does more damage so he didn't use it
@@michaelriches6699 true, but it could be he doesn't have it in his muscle memory that pluck *consumes* the opponents berry, possibly leading to some easier battles in the future.
I can't wait to see the video for all those Platinum fire type options.
Bibarel was my MVP in my BD/SP nuzlocke. It learns swords dance in that game, +4 attack in one turn then defense curl - rollout = Anything and everything is dead.
I’ll be hiking with my family today during the premier, so I’ll have to leave a like and comment before it goes live 😅
The simple but brilliant Bibarel gets the spotlight; been looking forward to this one. It's a surprising Pokémon; the first Normal rodent to get a second type, faster than you would expect from a tanky design and far cuter than you'd think from first appearances.
1:53 - Such a polite looking Bibarel; wouldn't expect Budetta to swear like a drunken sailor.
2:55 - Which is really at odds with the in-game philosophy of loving all the Pokémon and such. A gameplay vs storytelling issue. If I were designing it, I would have it so earlier Pokémon have the advantage of better TM movepools, to try and make up for lower stats and weaker natural movepools with better variety/potential.
6:50 - Putting aside the fact that Bibarel doesn't have a great Special Attack stat, it's otherwise a strong moveset both naturally and TM wise.
9:36 - That sounds like you're aiming for a very inconsistent strategy to win. A single level or two would be enough to reliably take out the Turtwig, rather than relying on chance.
10:22 - Fun joke aside, I think Game Freak were more so suggesting you use a Flying type. You can trade for a Chatot in this very town and had access to Pluck from the flower shop as well.
13:42 - Rather smart of Fantina... not that it helped. Your Budetta destroyed that Haunter.
19:09 - Makes sense; I was wondering about that going into this battle. A shame Bibarel only learns Water Gun naturally as there are other water moves that would have made sense for it such as Aqua Tail.
21:39 - I was hoping you would do this; Grass Knot instead of Defence Curl made far more sense. That Quagsire stands no chance now.
25:09 - You do seem to be bouncing back with Critical Hits after a reset quite frequently in this video.
27:27 - Cyrus is devastating with his status inflicting moves here.
28:52 - I love you have the Blissey fight occurring as you continue on with the rest of the video. Lovely touch. I see it's still agonisingly slow, even in sped-up Platinum.
32:05 - No recovery moves against the hard hitting Cynthia is always going to be a challenge. Still, you got better results this second go against her. A combination of Curse and Rest might yield more results but too many of her physical attacking Pokémon have Fighting moves.
33:01 - Amazing how Special Attacks ended up being the solution, and with a Bibarel of all Pokémon. Charge Beam and Ice Beam is a wonderful combination.
35:42 - Given the difficulties you had, especially against the rival, I'm surprised at such great results. I do wonder how an Unaware Bibarel would do instead.
I like the idea of including the league rematches. This is the point of the series where playing using only a single Pokémon gets you so much levels
Y'know Gardenia's Platinum puzzle is really a shame. In Diamond and Pearl, for those that dont know, there was this neat hide and seek puzzle where the previous person you found gives you a hint for where the next person is and you have to search the area for them. In execution it wasnt that great but I found it fun as a kid and theres something there that platinum couldve expanded on. But instead they tossed it out and replaced it with something seemingly worse...
In my theory , the reason milotic is using mirror coat is because the last pokemon got knocked out with a special move.
Woop! Furret is my favourite gen 2 pokemon
WOW!!! This guy is great at the game. He really has a good thought process around the game and he puts together really intelligently done videos. The data and the methodology and stuff is rigorous and we trust his results.
I'm once again in tears thanks to the Blissey bit
Whatching your videos make me want to play my file of Pokémon Pearl. I can't believe my DS Lite is still alive to this day
Damn, Blyssey's hp bar took HALF a minute to go down from 100% to 0. I know that gen 4 was slow, and I played it. But I didn't remember it was THAT slow.
Scott, don't forget about the Pluck Tm, it be found before Gardenia, and it would've made Gardenia, Fantina and Maylen way easier lol
I'm not sure why, but this has been my favorite vid in a while. Ty, Scott
Imagine the challenge run if the solo Bidoof/Bibarel was also the HM mule.
These runs in gen 3 & 4 are still great, but I really miss gen 1 playthroughs. I think we only had one this year with Electrode vs Magneton.
Really big fan of when you show ponyta on screen
Your wife's nicknames are always great! Awesome video and run
RE: voice over feedback. A lot of “right away” in this one, 4 against Fantina alone, the first one wasn’t even turn 1 or that Pokémon. Maybe some synonyms?
Bibarel is great. Fun fact: In addition to Bibarel, Bidoof (yes, Bidoof), saw play in ubers in gen 5 (AKA, the tier where the strongest legendaries are), because Moody (introduced in gen 5) is just that OP of an ability. Of course, Moody eventually got banned. But still, the time Bidoof/Bibarel domination was a glorious one.
I think that was in gen 5 'cos of it's hidden ability moody. It made the meta too luckbased.
@@shoblette961 oh woops, you are right. I got those abilities confused. I will edit my post
LORD DOOF! Thanks for the platinum playtime hoenn is my fav but I spent a lot of time in this game as a child as well
If with reevaluate you mean let your wife name all your mons, I completely agree. Those names are adorable. The lady is a genius, let her do her magic.
14:30 The first time Mismagius broke your substitute after you started using amnesia, it was a crit too, so of course it broke through.
I ran that Milotic battel through the damage calculator at Pokémon Showdown. The method you used here is the most consistent. With the Zap Plate and a single boost, like you theorized trying in the outro, the odds of one-shotting Milotic are precisely 50/50, whereas with two boosts, an OHKO is guaranteed regardless of held item. If you go the physical route with Return and a Silk Scarf, you have a 75% chance of an OHKO. Without Silk Scarf, Return only does approximately 80-95%, resulting in time-wasting Full Restore spam.
As someone who loves Bibarel it is awesome to see this video in my feed! Velma the Bibarel was the water type of my Platinum team and she wasn't just an HM Mule she carried her weight in battle and even took out Cynthia's Garchomp with Ice Beam!
"Rocket" grunts for the Galactic grunts is a tad funny.
Looking forward to seeing Furret WALCC all over gen 2!
Kinda fun and unexpected to see that Bibarel was using one of the rarely seen setup moves to win in the end...
Great vid! Instead of fully charging up charge beam, you could use return to chip and then finish it off with either return or charge beam.
Also Scott as you mentioned in the intro you don't need to go to +4, +3 was already the max you could reach (as shown in the overlay, SpA doesn't go up after +3)
I think Return/Waterfall/Amnesia/Curse could have worked for the league, too!
Was anyone else yelling when Scott said he wanted to get to +4 SP ATK against Cynthia? He just went through a whole run where his boosts get doubled…
Hi Scott! Would a Rare Candy counter be useful, especially in Gen4?
Right next to the Badge Collection in a little square.
Image of a Rare Candy, with X4 underneath to signify you have 4 candies available to you.
That can help people keep track of how many you have by the end. Though I don't know how easy that'd be to do.
I love your wife's nicknames, Jerry was the goat yo. Budetta is doin' fine herself!
14:15 the sub only went down due to a crit
Very cool to see Bibarel and Simple in action. One thing I'd consider is Amnesia vs Cynthia, as Superpower wasn't very useful. +4 alone might be enough to get the win against her, but even so, taking a second turn for max setup doesn't seem like a big deal, assuming you stick with Simple. Very stoked to see how even more early birds and rats and such perform :)
As soon as I saw a Starly on the rival's team I knew simple would be an issue
So the physical waterfall got passed over initial review, lets see if it makes an appearance later considering his preference for curse.
The bidoof line is way better than 90% of people give it
I don’t know this for sure, but I believe the AI chooses to use Counter or Mirror Coat based on if they’ve recently seen your Pokémon use a physical or special move, respectively
Finally, a solo challenge with LITERALLY me
Even with all these color changes, I will at least concede that HP being green at least makes sense. Video games in general and Kingdom Hearts in particular have taught me that green usually goes with both health and healing.
Wow Scott, nice beaver
I liked how BDSP made Bibarel appear for almost every HM since even the devs knew why people caught it in DPPl. Also you should do Linoone vs Furret since I always forgot they were two separate Pokemon as a kid.
Me imagining Scott grind dancing on some pokemon
Scott is committing war crimes with this one 🗣️🗣️🗣️ 🔥🔥🔥
Have you considered storing your HM Pokémon in the PC for gym battles so you could still earn trainer xp on failed attempts? It would probably lose a little bit of time initially running back to the gym leader after a whiteout and for the gym leaders which you defeat on the first attempt anyway, but perhaps it could save time in the long run by reducing the amount of going out of your way or backtracking to grind against wild Pokémon or optional trainers. Just a theory.
Jerrytina and Budetta~
(I'm reminded of Lemon Demon's "Samuel and Rosella".)
Hooray for Denis! He's here in Sinnoh too!
Took me a few days to get around to watching this
Does Unaware ignores enemy evasion boosts? If so, it'd be pretty handy!
This is a pokemon you need to do multiple playthroughs with for testing and experimenting. Both abilities, and different movesets/strats.
So happy for my beloved rat!
Not sure if it is the only factor that decides the use of mirror coat, on my tests it uses it after I used a special move on the previous turn. If it's not the only factor it's at least a major one, because I've never seen it use that after I used a physical move.
Not gonna lie the bibarel sprite alone brought me here
I'll be honest, I kind of get what they were going for with the colors using warm colors for physical and cool colors for special, but I still think they could have been done better. Keeping red as HP I think it would make more sense for yellow to be Attack and orange to be Defense since Defense would be physical resistance combining the colors of the physical stat and the core durability stat. Likewise keeping Special Attack as blue they could then use purple for Special Defense, once again combining the special color and the durability color.
That's just my two cents though. Game Freak can do what they want at the end of the day.
5:28: "so that they now reflect what Game Freak's using in the official Pokemon releases"
about that: Game Freak isn't using those colors anymore. The level up stat colors were only ever used in the Gen 7 games and a mobile title, they went back to all stats being in black the moment Sword and Shield dropped, meaning the colors used on Bulbapedia are arbitrarily chosen.
If you want to use what Game Freak uses, there's been a single case in the mainline games of colors being associated with stats while also being consistent; Feathers and Mints. While no mint exists for hp, the mint for the neutral natures is very close in color to the HP Feather, and the other 4 colors used match completely.
Super fang always does half. Wouldn't it have been a good move to keep?
honestly that thing swept so much with defense curl roll out whenever i used it in the earlygame
I wonder if Moody has a higher potential for a Speedrun if you highroll.
All of gen 4 early game pokemon are useable to fantastic (besides cricketune) luxray/sky raptor/roserade/bibarell as the final evolution of the new first couple route pokemon you could make a good team from the first two routes
You never do know how low Bibarel's base stats are until you go to use it. Those are borderline Gengar defenses, yet the inner monologue nags, "Simple, man!" Didn't take long for Shoddy Battle to persuade me out of that habit.
I think I like this format because I always used to build a team around my starter. Soloing is far more efficient.
I'm fine with the light blue and violet of the special stats, but I prefer the red orange yellow of HP, atk, def respectively. I could get used to green HP (red or green are the only correct options for HP), but defense should be yellow or orange and attack should be orange or red. Attack stats should be a warmer color than defense stats (which is why I like the special changes).
Did you use superpower at all in the League? It might have been easier to relearn amnesia over that for Cynthia instead of relying on charge beam.
I will say, Bibarel is better than people get credit for. I caught both lake legendaries in platinum using exclusively him in level 50. Super fang yawn for 1 hp dusk ball catches.
How come Tackle is listed with the correct values in the overall level-up movepool but then has 100 Accuracy and 52 BP (which I believe comes from a base 40 + STAB) in your actual movepool? Did you have the wrong base values for Tackle but only in one section of the overlay's behind the scenes?
Against gardenia, can you hope for a NOT reflect and use wooder gun turn one
I expect more tough Cynthia fights as you continue to use more early Rare Candies.
Now I want a art of bibarel using a dire hit
Bibarel hype!
Mannnn given all your PP jokes, how did you not name the beaver Pokémon Harry?
Hey Scott, I was wondering if you had an online resource for all of the in-game trainer data for all the games you’ve developed software for. And if your stuff for Platinum works on Diamond & Pearl so there’s data on that too. I’ve been working on a thing and full understanding of all the Gym Leader and Rival team stats has been tough to come by.
There isn't an online resource... yet.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Yet… ;)
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I almost forgot something. You might wanna give Gold and/or Silver cursory look independently from Crystal. There might be some deviations in Trainera common to both. I had a friend comb through both versions of Johto and found that Blaine’s Magmar in only Gold and Silver had a bugged Leftovers that didn’t work until the player caught him. Perhaps some other quirks can be sussed out in similar fashion.
I caught a shiny Bibarel in the Great Marsh in Diamond, and kept it on my team since.
Ah yes the HM friend.
Can't wait to see the Palkia Yellow backport (with dragonbreath) that will destroy Mewtwos record.
It's not really my decision, but personally I think it's better if they don't add new moves into past games. Because I feel like if Palkia was in Gen I it wouldn't really have had Dragonbreath. It's a very Gen I thing with so many Pokemon missing STAB moves.
Btw Scott, i noticed you made the same mistake i did when i played platinum recently using bibarel and a current gen mindset
1) Simple in the gen it was introduced doesnt work as a stat change twice effect that we know it as now. Stats boost (or drop) normally till +6 and the double multiplier is applied AFTER. So you can actually amnesia thrice all the way till +6 and the multiplier will be done after. It actually makes it very OP in gen 4.
2) unrelated but i didn't realise the +1 spatk boost and immunity for gastrodon's storm drain was added AFTER mucking up my whole plan. Not relevant to your run at all but i needed to whinge about gen 4 changes i wasn't aware about 🙈
Furret is secretly a beast
I think if you do the solo pokemon instead of the full line for platinum, you should include the evolutions if the prior pokemon ends up being impossible to beat the game with
With Simple, wouldn't you have only needed +3 sp. atk boosts? Still, watching these have been great, thanks.
Oh yeah, correct
Well, what about Amnesia for Cynthia? Setting up at the Spiritomb would have been easy and would negate the Aura Spheres.
Actually, about the crits. Simple, on top of doubling stat changes, also doubles the critical hit chances.
Should have been called Peanut Butter!
Not Kanto but, DROPPEEEEED MY BALLSSS, also RIP Bibarel not getting swords dance in gen 4
I got confused when your water gun didn't do a ton of damage after amnesia. Imagine the terror of gen 1 Bibarel if you could somehow keep his ability and curse
I remember bidoof day Rick roll.
Budetta sounds like a dirty way to say vagina in Brazilian Portuguese.
Listen, Scott. You must ask your wife to name your Pokemon more often. I love this name given, and I want to hear more options she has in store for future runs.
