    yet to ride one of the newer ones, seems like the ones they use for the 20 route are stuck in the 90s

    Hello. As a bus driver I am wondering if this will be better / worse for the drivers? It’s great for Passangers more frequent services etc. However will us as bus drivers start to earn the same as train drivers!!!?!! I really hope so

      Its stuid how bus drivers get paid less yet need to manage tickets, traffic and more - All train drivers need to do is go forward and backwards.
      I hope bus drivers get what they deserve in terms of pay

      Well I hope bus drivers get a pay rise because I'm sick and tired of bus drivers who have a bad attitude.

      Bus drivers the same as train drivers?! Are you for real? Bus drivers have far less responsibility than train drivers and I've been a busy driver for almost 22 years. Train drivers get more per annum for a reason. A lot more lives are in their hands, it's a more rewarding job in general and a lot more skill is required to drive trains. The best part is the train drivers are constantly going out on strike over pay and the buggers are paid £70,000 a year.

      @@penguthepenguinjIt seems you know sod all about trains. If it was just about going forwards and backwards then every idiot in Britain would be driving them. Any idiot can drive a bus. Consider gathering more accurate information before you ramble such nonsense.

    I hope this model does not extend to the East Midlands. We have a decent bus service with council owned Nottingham City Transport and Trent Barton. I believe we also have a good tram service. In surveys, NET scores very highly with customer satisfaction.

    If I buy a bee network day saver in Wigan can I ride all the way to Middleton with it?
    Does this bus stop idling whilst stationary? I went on a coach doing Blackpool lights once and it took 2 hours to get through. Must have wasted 4 gallons of diesel doing so.
    An EV bus would have used about £3 in electricity.

    • @MrJohnstonJohno
      @MrJohnstonJohno 8 месяцев назад

      Bus drivers are encouraged to turn off the vehicle if they are stationary for more than three or four minutes. when Buses stop at their timing points for example, this is a ideal opportunity to switch off the vehicle. Great question.

    • @1mgvideo
      @1mgvideo 4 месяца назад

      @@MrJohnstonJohno In Mansfield, Notts, the time was 2 minutes whilst stationary but I think most drivers ignored the rule. Not to mention the waste of diesel, all that pollution while going nowhere.

    Priority for wheelchair users. I've been getting on buses for over 20 years, and I've seen just one electric wheelchair get on. Half of the seats on the bottom deck have been removed just for this. Why aren't there any fold down seats like that used to be. If you think i'm going upstairs where all the vape smokers are, you've got another thing coming. Oh, and sticking the emergency exit where the wheelchairs are positioned. Who's bright idea was that? How are passengers supposed to escape if a wheelchair is blocking the emergency exit. Total fail.

    State of the art?
    I don’t think so. One at a time then.
    1 - the USB ports are not the latest specification.
    2 - numerous vehicles in use, notably on the Leigh Guided busway, where the audio/visual displays have one single pixel working and there is both no audio announcement nor any replacement announcement from drivers. Been the case for the best part of eight years and clearly isn’t changing any time soon.
    3 - the idiocy of labelling priority seats on the back of the seat beggars belief really. If no-one is occupying the seat then a person needing a priority seat will occupy it because it’s there. If someone is occupying the seat then the words “Priority Seat” will not be visible. Comic genius.
    4 - A truly state of the art vehicle would not have a mere two spaces for wheelchair users which are effectively dominated by the many buggy users who need to use public transport. The notion is about twenty years behind where equality cases are falling right now. An accessible vehicle would have at least double the numbers here and more fold down seating to make it more accessible.
    5 - ironically the use of one colour for the entire fleet makes it less accessible for users with visual impairments who will now have no visual cue to help them identify a bus other than its number and destination. Do these “state of the art” vehicles have larger bus numbers etc. to compensate for that? Nope, of course not.
    6 - no mention of sexist bus drivers who will only lower the bus for buggy and wheel chair users but don’t contemplate the need for older people or those with visual impairments.
    7 - the genius of having a visual display which, if working, is not visible to people sat in priority seats on the other side of the bus or when even a small number of people are standing.
    8 - no change to the upstairs display which is visible to no-one beyond the first four or five rows of seats at the front.
    9 - no change in the lack of leg room for the priority seat next to the wheelchair space. Hilariously the video even shows this. Your presenter has to sit slightly sideways at all times just like real people with spinal and other issues do. Brilliant.
    The sad demise of DDRG as a meaningful group and the poor standard of work done by the mayors group of disabled users leads to this kind of thing being touted as amazing when it’s nothing of the sort.

      1. the usb ports could be easily replaced
      2. the entire point of the network is to make it easier for local people to hold the operating companies to account and to prevent them from getting away from something like that.
      3. this is not a complaint , almost every bus agency in the country labels priority seats in one way or another
      4. unfortunately space on these buses is limited, I dont know how you expect 4 wheelchair spaces without there being the introduction of bendy buses, adding to that, how would you fit 4 on the bottom floor considering outside of the areas already in use, barely any of the remaining floor space is flat???
      5. this would only apply in very specific circumstances such as the vantage routes, which I agree should have branding, but again this is something that could be instituted later. On top of that, I highly doubt this was a significant issue in the first place, as someone that lived in south manchester the only time I saw clear route information on buses, or clear route livery / bus distinctions was on the 41, diamond buses (which serve a limited area), the free buses (only 2 routes in the central region of GM), and then the two routes in my area that were (not even 100% of the time) allocated electric buses, while again I can understand why better labelling would improve accessibility there are definitely questions about whether it is practical (for example, buses dont stick to their allocations all the time, especially in manchester) as well as the cost, and in addition to this, it seems like most people would have already been adapted to this considering this wasnt really a problem they had before?
      6. I dont know how that is sexist, considering that groups you mentioned would include members of both sexes, but this is something that could be addressed with better training (which you now have greater input in, as there is a better structured central body that can be held accountable for something like this)
      7. While I dont blame you for thinking like this because of you previous experience with vantage, assuming theyre not going to work just isnt the smartest thing to do, plus again I must stress that if they fail to deliver on this YOU CAN HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE, also there's two display screens so this is a non-issue but I dont blame you because I assume you just didnt see previous tours of the buses where they would the forward and rear facing screens
      8. that is not true, I lived in London originally, have no issue seeing it from the back, didn't an issue with the 43 route either, plus the lack of handlebars on the top floor means that it'll probably be easier to see than previously
      9. the bus has limited space in fairness but I do agree that this is an issue, I personally feel like the rush to use AD's current model was abit short sighted as a result, both their single decker and double decker variants have an issue with leg room at the rear end and the area you already mentioned because of the space the battery takes up
