Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!" - Развлечения
This guy was incredible as Roger Sterling! Miss that show so much.
I thought i was the only one that saw that he was a great Actor..
Yeah hey at least you can binge watch it on Netflix.
LOVE him as Sterling. Also loved him as the perverted politician in Sex in the City.
Roger Sterling had some of the wittiest and best lines in Mad men. His character was fantastic and he portrayed him amazingly.
Ikrr
"I'd tell you to go to hell, but I never want to see you again."
i love that i understand this. such an iconic line from mad men omg
Uncle Mack says this. Great line
It's funny and weird to see how many people actually believed Slattery was truly angry with Colbert. He wasn't even being that serious, he broke his mean/catty character a few times while telling the story.
Does John Slattery have a mean bone in his body?
It was awkward. John’s not skilled with comedy so it came out awkward
John Slattery was absolutely brilliant on Mad Men, he is such a great actor!!
I have to give props to Colbert for correcting his pronunciation of Toronto.
Yep, he just glided over that second T like it wasn't even there. :D
Ter-onno
He didn't correct. You pronounce it wrong. There's a goddamn T in there. And you morons say: Tor-onno
John Slattery is a great story teller. I was hanging on to every word.
John Slattery is such a beautiful Sterling Silver Fox.
How?
He’s so dorky looking!
Slattery looks like an older Anderson Cooper.
That was my first thought
the flawed, bitter, but more powerful prototype model (unfortunately he's also the evil one)
No he doesnt lmao, just because both have gray hair they look alike? Oh, Harrison Ford TOTALLY looks like anderson cooper too.
5:35 Colbert agrees
The funny part beeing he's only 5 years older.
Moral of the story: job insecurity sucks.
I'm confused. This Slattery dude is pretty old, yet super hot... I guess my daddy issues got confirmed.
He is not THAT old, he is 54 ^_^
Sofia Mendonça
yeah, I know. but for holly wood standards, he's a dinosaur.
To give perspective, Brad Pitt is 52. White hair, no botox and too much sun (I believe he surfs?...) does age a person. I wouldn't mind though:D
For a successful Hollywood actor, 54 is not old at all. Colbert is 52. George Clooney is 55. Fun Fact: Slattery's wife, Talia Balsom, was married to Clooney in the early 90s - she's the one who played Mona Sterling, Slattery's wife on Mad Men.
and having very fair skin. :)
Out of all the characters from Mad Men, I really miss his acting (and Jon Hamm's). His one-liners, his wit, his complexities made him an interesting character. It is a relief to see that he is just as witty and lively in real life as he was in Mad Men
Mission Report December 16 1991...
:'-( RIP Howard Stark.
He got fuckin merked
YOU knew!?
Thank you.
It had been 25 years at the time as well
John is a terrific actor. This was so believable.
I'm impressed with Stephen's proper pronunciation of Toronto - "Trawnoh". Proof that he has actually been there.
Do you not know what proper means?
I love this interview, especially since Stephen actually said during the monologue "I saw him backstage, and he seemed mad about something, so we'll see if he'll tell us what he's mad about..." :P
Staged confirmed
This is too hot. Sugar daddy level 10000 together
You're goddamn right.
His very unconventional start of conversaton is due to the fact that Mr. Slattery is a stage animal. Those 25 years of acting sure gave him this sense of effortless interpretation of any situation with live audience.
Stephen and John can play the same character in different universes. They look so much alike.
Looks like Stephen talking to his future self..
"Let me tell you about the Dark times... when Orange ruled the land...."
donald trump?
New Message my thought too.
This is what Im missing in Late Night. Proper comedy banter.
Only a true mad men fan will know this: "You ever get three sheets to the wind and try that thing on?"
"I think that was Jonathan Swift"
@@andrewb8235 yesss
Stephen correcting himself on how we say "Teronno" just warmed my cold Toronto-born soul :D
I just said Toronto out loud 4 times. I'm also Canadian and had no clue I didn't pronounce the T. But sure enough I just said "toronno" 4 times. It feels really weird to force the T sound. That is an unofficial silent t. Im sticking with my Toronno and I will also keep calling water "wader" which was pointed out to me also. I guess the Canadian accent is not pronouncing T's or saying them as d's. Kinds cool. I didn't feel like I had an accent.
Us Toronto folk don't have the "Canadian" accent. More rural parts of Ontario and the Prairies definitely do. Then the Maritimes are something else entirely!
***** We don't have the "Canadian accent' that Americans like to make fun of, is my point. Nobody here is saying "aboot". That's a rural Canadian thing, not something you'd hear in a city like Toronto or Ottawa too often.
Yeah, I never realized that either. As a Calgarian, I knew we tend to say it more like Calgree
He always has the best lines on Mad Men.
Ay: Countdown by Coltrane!
Also, ay: John Slattery's heartwarming 25-year old grudge!
wait they played Countdown? I was distracted by the tone of the interview.
Must have missed the joke, rewatched it for coltrane's countdown, no dice.
yeah I was gonna say, wonder why they played Trane changes for the walk-in?
Scrolled down to find someone mention this!
John is so cool man, season one of Mad Men his acting work after Roger's heart attack really made me realize wow; this is going to be a great show (as i balled my eyes out).
"bawled"
+Anthony L nah he play his basketball eyes out
with a ballpeen or a ballpoint?
I' rather bawl my brains out - but maybe that's just me.
I love John Slattery, but I'll always remember him as the guy that asked Carrie Bradshaw to pee on him.
"Can't you just close your eyes and ill pour warm tea on you?"
yea!!
lolll
I always remember him as the guy who dignified Roger's fiancée in the ass at the Jefferson Hotel, Room 1210.
I'm glad I missed that.
he looks and older crazier version of stephen colbert
The craziest part is he’s only 1 year older than Colbert
Sterling's Gold
I love TV grudges, especially Kimmel-Damon's.
Thanks dear 😘 for your support 💕 and nice to meet you
Isn't he dead? I thought Bucky killed him.
Great charismatic actor hé could have bien à great Ceo😊😊
I thought he was joking...but he really does seem to hold a grudge.
slattery looks like an old ryan lochte
but honest
THIS
Where is Mr. Ryan these days? What’s he up to?
OMG!! This guy was my favorite character on "Mad Men"!
John Slattery looks way more handsum then Anderson Cooper 👌.
I agree John Slattery is handsome.
Anderson is handsome but he's way too pale.
Are you both blind?
No way is he better looking than Andy.
He directed Phillip Seymour Hoffman's last full film, God's Pocket. Good movie. Check it out.
This brings to mind when Colbert was guest host of the Daily Show (before he got the Colbert Report), interviewing the guy from Alley McBeal, and Colbert confronted him for getting the job that Colbert had tried out for.
When he put up the comparison picture with Mr. Burns, I was just thinking Larry David would have been a better choice.
Yeah I was thinking of Larry David too.
This is great. John Slattery is a legend.
i loved how he just came out and held that grudge for so many years that was just too funny. i like the guy too great actor i haven't seen that much of his stuff but i have seen him on Desperate Housewives which he was brilliant on
He always cracked me up on Mad Men.
lol this got brutally awkward.
If they do a live action Montgomery burns story, Stephen, you should definitely play the part of Smithers.
Love how Stephen clarified his pronunciation of Toronto :D
Giant Steps as intro... Cannot get classier and awesome than that
That's it, band's chopping it up for the man!
6:45 He totally looks like Larry David with different glasses!
Slattery should be a regular guest
He carried this stuff for 25 years!! oh wow. #confessionisgood4thesoul
Its a bit, you twit.
I need to see a live action Simpsons right now with Slattery as Burns.
I like this guy. Great in madmen, great in spotlight!
John Slattery: "workaholic in crappy relationship? Sign me up!"
Older Anderson Cooper? No, an older Bob Saget.
I lol’ed when I saw him with the picture of Monty Burns...I was thinking, “Smithers, next time you need to shell ALL the pistachios. I almost broke my arm trying to get at that rascal there!” Then a zoom-out to a room in chaos and a pistachio that is already cracked open.
He's two years older than Stephen, but looks about 10 years older at least
619ck154 its just the hair i think that gives this impression. Because to me they look the same age 😊
Colbert was cast 14 years ago in an NBC pilot from Ken Finkleman. Guess it felt like 25 years.
Roger Sterling was my favorite character in Mad Man, thank you John for playing it!
As a Canadian, I love that "toranto"..
As an American, I heard a soft second "t"
Great actor! loved mad men
Can't tell if serious or not
Awesome! Loved this guy on MM.
Lol so much Rodger sterling just passive aggressively owning someone he’s upset with. I love him so much...
colbert has zero interviewing skills, he never knows what to ask
OMG! Make a real life Simpsons movie with the silver wolf man as Mr.Burns! Start casting now!
No love for Robert Morse? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?
Daddyyyyy 😍😍😍
Thanks dear 😘 and nice to meet you
God!! Some people are so dim. Thinking that all this is real. John almost lost it at 2.57 and had to bend down and sip water to stop himself from breaking character.
25 years ago. This story would've taken place in 1991, if it really was that long ago.
December 17, 1991, to be exact.
+Yijun Yang 16*
+Yijun Yang Mission report
Kyle Oxenham thats probably about 25 years ago lol
colbert and slattery 😍 someone get me a towel or a lobotomy because someone is about to loose their freaking shit. bahahaha 😍💞😘
k
The silver fox!!!!!!! 😍
Hilarious! honest and genuine. Luv both these guys.
Wow, his Eisenhower looks like John Lithgow.
Still not as bad as the Casey Affleck interview.
It's Stephen Colbert but, if he didn't make it and the stress of not making it aged his hair.
+Joey Fnuts One of the best going.
Stephen thank you for correcting your pronunciation of Toronto
They look so much alike - if they had the same hair color they would be nigh indistinguishible!
The Newsroom was made, but it only aired in Canada and Finkelman ended up playing the part himself. My recollection is it was very good.
Your recollection is correct.
This was for the American remake - as they mentioned in the video. I don't know why they thought a new version was necessary, but clearly it ultimately wasn't.
It was one of my favourite shows, at the time ... I remember hearing that there was a US version in the works, but then no further updates. Interesting to find out some of the background about that project -- especially involving two performers I really like (Slattery and Colbert). Since then I've been hoping that someone else will take up the idea, and when I heard about "The Newsroom" on HBO several years ago I got all excited, only to learn that it was a different show altogether.
I had a teacher who looks like John Slattery, AMAZING CLASS.
this man is so damn attractive
so catty
I was first introduced to Slattery's work as the goofy veterinarian on Lifetime's comedy series, "Maggie" in 1998. I thought he was hilarious in that, as was Ann Cusack. There are some episodes here on RUclips.
I met Slattery at a Braves game.. couldn't have been nicer
i feel he's less Monty Burns than a freshly-pressed Larry David
I've just realised that Trevor Slattery in Iron Man 3, must be some kind of reference to Iron Man's dad (actors name is Slattery)
Wait, what?
Amazing actor.
Did this episode use the faceapp? Those 2 are the same guy...
This interview is so real
Can you imagine beating out Slattery for a role? Especially if your career took a different direction afterwards? Now that I see them both together, I can see how they were up for the same role.
Dear Lord, john slattery is too hot for this world
“Damnit you stole my good bye!”
Roger Sterling himself!
Um, hello...He also played Ben Bradlee, Jr. in the award-winning film "Spotlight". That's how I recognized him.
Thanks dear 😘 and nice to meet you
John Slattery looks like the kid of Anderson Cooper and Bill Maher.
i feel like they are trying to sell me a magical personality mirror that was made to freak people out. my question is where can i get one?
It's Iron Man's dad!
... a Silver Fox Daddy!!!
There's two Dr. Normans!
lol
Slattery is 54. Colbert is 52.
he's Howard Stark on and off set ^_^
He is Roger Sterling in real life too 😅
and I'm watching this interview at 420 views... blaze it
You guys are aware that they share a script for the interview right?
When your last name is Slattery 10\10
