  • I couldn't let you guys down, a bunch of you tagged me in the Hoovie FB group saying I needed to buy this car, so I did. I messaged the seller immediately, went through another painful Marketplace transaction, but we ended up getting a deal made for the cheapest (and probably the ONLY) manual Jaguar S-Type in the country. This 2003 Jag S-Type is powered by the 3.0 Duratec, with a 5 speed manual behind it, and it's rear wheel drive! A pretty incredible package for how cheap the car was!

I had an 02 with suspension trouble. I saved around 400 on the lower control arm by getting the thunderbird variant. Same exact part.

Please get this car to 100%. Don’t dump it and give up. Lets see it back to all its GLORY!

None of this has to do with relaiability. It´s normal wear and years of neglected maintainance, but still turn key and go, and get you where you need to go, so I would say its pretty damn reliable.

The 500 dollar control arms can be had from Rockauto for 140. Same as Lincoln LS

Still looks solid underneath. Get the deferred maintenance up to date and it will be good for another 100k

Thing is, this Jag is actually a nice car, in good shape for it's age. What you are seeing is insane levels of deferred maintenance. You can start almost anywhere and improve it quickly, like the oil leaks or getting the transmission re-attached. Suspension is more money but the parts seem easy enough to find. I have a feeling that with the right work done, you will end up with an amazing car and still be at the lower end of the cost scale.

Something about that Jag screams ‘save me’ - it’s been so neglected but I think it has a lot to give,

In the UK, the yearly government MOT test would have picked all that up years before it got to that state and it's possible to look up history against the chassis number or plate, what the previous test findings/repairs needed were. A bargain for £54.

At least here in the UK you can bushing kits for these and its about 1/4 of the cost

You can buy most of the bushings separately and inexpensively. They are probably junk, but I feel like a sawzall, torch, hammer, chisels, anir hammer, and my harbor freight 20 ton press could make it work and it would buy her some time for not much money. I need to do the rear suspension arms on my Super V8 soon, but she is no where near as bad as that S-type.

Check under the passenger seat to make sure everything is still plugged in. With all of that garbage, the seat sensor could have gotten pulled.

I owned an 04 Lincoln ls with similar suspension issues. You can buy the individual bushings on rock auto and Moog. If you’re looking for the control arms you’ll notice a big difference in price between the first and second generation. On second generation suspension parts (03 and up) ford beefed up the suspension components due to the Jag type R. From the research I’ve done I believe first and second generation suspension parts are interchangeable.
