- I finally found the perfect place to build the ultimate car guy compound. Tons of car parts, tools, and a motorcycle were left behind. So today we're going to sort through everything, throw a ton of stuff away, and start cleaning things up. A new house, a new shop, and a place to build cars better than ever before... but the house has some strange secrets of it's own.

Ok ok mounting a racecar bed upside down on the road bedroom ceiling is not the worst idea...
As someone who raced to reno our home before moving in, my advice would be to focus on finishing the necessities before move in. One functional bedroom and full bath. Stretching yourself too thin puts pressure on making things "good enough" to get to the finish line. You can always do the rest after move in, as long as you have a place to sleep, sheet and shower.
We opted for orange peel texture throughout the house. My FIL and husband did a tremendous job on it since they've been dry walling/finishing for years- I highly recommend it, especially for lighter paints! We used a beautiful, very very very pale blue called Prelude. With white trim and dark green/dark wood accents in the house, it exudes a very natural and comforting feel. 😁
@@MissusO I’ve always wanted cold/hard concrete and dark but white on white is my comprise. Your color scheme sounds awesome.
I wish I could help you John Ross. I repeat your channel has so much variety and offers us a so much entertainment.
From my family to yours and heart felt thank you for all your hard work and putting up with the trolls that comment rude things.
I'm ready to see the interesting ceiling box treatment. All the ceilings in my custom house were different. I had 10' ceilings in the entry and kitchen then 20' cathedral ceiling in the living room, 12" cathedral in my office and finally vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom and bath. It was sweet. Very few 8' ceilings.
@@Cartier_specialist yeah 8ft ceilings suck… wish I could go up with these 💯
@@WatchJRGoOn the positive side I think 8 foot ceilings makes it easier and cheaper to heat and cool.
@@WatchJRGo Unfortunately, that was a common height for this era of house but I’ll be damned if you didn’t make 8 foot ceilings as cool as they possibly could be.
8' ceilings are fine if its a smaller house like JR's place. Really what makes the difference is having lots of natural light, big floor to ceiling windows and a good flow to the place. AKA double door openings, no one room feels boxed in with one door, you can look out the windows in the kitchen and living room from one vantage point, JR seems to have a great grasp on opening up the space and making it flow, house did have some good bones with those floor to ceiling windows and big sliding patio doors.
Did you get your current home sold ??
Nice progress! I like the drop-down detail on the ceiling in the primary bedroom as there is only so much you can do with 8' ceilings.
Eric is a worker 👏👏👏
Pro Tip: Use Behr paint. Sherwin Williams can't touch it. All you need to do is paint one room to see the difference. It covers better, is more durable, and levels better.
How long before you add the mirrors over the bed. LoL 😂😂😂
Everything is looking great, I like the duel content (home reno + cars). I understand the need for an access panel, is there any access to that spot from an attic? Just saying, it will probably be more obvious than you think
Alternatively, if you get creative with trim work and keep it symmetrical, it might not look so bad. As in, put in 3 other squares of trim the exact same size as the access panel so it looks like an intentional design feature.
It’s looking good ! I want to see all the LED light strips in operation.
You should consider tiling the bedroom ceiling with mirrors
Good morning from another part of the world 😊
You have good taste in thermostats. Ecobee for the win.
Hey JR, you & your team are doing a great job, quality work.
You can always have a Johnny on the Spot delivered....
So satisfying when you finally get to paint.
The end is in sight.
Well yer getting close 😱
The “I” is for infinity 🧐
Level 5 is easily done. Just add a little dishwashing soap that is liquid to your compound and water down a little bit on your final coat and I’ll come out like glass
Thanks for the tip!
Eric you’re a great brother !!! JR and Eric great team . Incredible work
Looks like a high end custom made home .
It is impressive enough to get all that work done but to then go home and edit content, man when do you sleep? Looking good sir!
I go to sleep right at midnight after the video drops at 1145 😬
@@WatchJRGo Seems like every time I watch recently I hear Mickey talking to Rocky in Rocky III, "You're burning up your anatomy at an incredible rate". Glad to read you sleep sometimes. ~ Chuck
Thanks for keeping content coming on a regular basis. Others are slipping and hard to follow .
I couldn’t agree more. So many RUclipsrs, the good ones like John Ross, seem to have just disappeared.
JR probably doesn’t go more than 2 or 3 days tops without a great quality video, one you actually want to watch.
It has to be pretty grueling for him but as someone who pretty much uses RUclips as my sole entertainment, I really, really appreciate his efforts.
Welcome to another episode of Watch JR Wear Out His Friends. 🤣
Man that is starting to look so good, hopefully ready in time for a bed and hot water hehe. Big Up!
I looked up marshmallow and it’s the closest to Alabaster which we just did. House is looking good!
All of you have done a fantastic job. JR, you’re going to have one hell of a bachelor pad. Hugh Hefner would be proud of your mansion.😊
Suggestion: If you are tiling the showers, you might want to add a built in seat.
@@alansmith4734 oh I am and we are, heated seat 💯
@@WatchJRGoNice!
A seat and room for activities…. 😂
What we all need to know is, when do you intend to have the house warming party?
Amazing what some paint will do to bring some progress
The 1960's called, they want their textured ceilings back.
why do you want a bright bedroom?
Can I move in?! lol. Looks good man!
about 10 min in, we see the wall controls for lighting, audio scenes, etc. Is that Crestron?
The crapper being boxed in might be an issue one day. Life happens. If you ever have health issues, back operations etc, you won't get a commode over that toilet. Don't gain any weight.i guess moving a wall wouldn't take to much. Lol.
Jon Ross, you disappoint me.... It's time to learn from whom your paint comes from. Mr. Williams does not have an "M" in his first name, as it is Sherwin Williams. So disappointed 😞. On a good note, Marshmallow is a very popular color. I love it! ❤
Are those lights the Unifi ones? I believe they discontinued them? Are you doing a Ubiquiti smart home system?
North east thing for me!
I prefer a touch of texture on the walls & ceilings. Flat & perfect is too expensive and has a very institutional look to it IMO. Not the mood I want in my home. You house is insanely wonderful!
I want to see this ceiling. It’s been so much work.
The countdown begins.... The finish line is in sight
Good Evening John Ross
@@douglasbray3563 hey Douglas! 🍻
Looking good!
wjrgo is looking wjrdone today.
Why rush put a camper on the property and stay in it until you finish. Especialy you being a kind of a perfectionist which is cool since your paying for it
Non texture is the way to go!!!
Is the fan going to be to low in the master bedroom
Yeah, slightly lower since it sits on the drop… but I’m using a big ass fan with zero drop rod so it might actually be the same height as most 😬
Are you renting out or selling your other house?
I’m pretty sure he is building this to be his primary house. The lake house is going to be a rental though.
Hey!
Texture....eeewwwwww!
Think I’d have had quality plaster etc and not worry about speakers and LEDS everywhere, they could have been added later ?
It really is easier adding the LEDs and speakers while you’re going than to come back later. I think JR made the right call on that, myself.
@@brian5o lights can go in anytime, you can’t easily come back and make it quality finishes without a huge mess, add the wiring from above and not have so many access panels, access panels are for commercial buildings not your home, they look crap, you only have to run each wire into the ceiling space and access them there and it’s not like you need to get to them very often…
ITS INSANE YALL DONT USE A DRYWALL JACK…. They are cheap AND AWESOME! 😆 work smarter people
$6000 for drywaller is too much
For a 3000sqft home with almost all new drywall and endless tape lines, inside and outside corners and textured ceilings that is a ton of time and hassle saved. Sometimes it's worth hiring out work to focus on the work you can do quickly, and move on to other projects.
👍🏼👍🏼
Top 5
Only reason for texture is because they can’t finish a wall like glass
can't or don't have the time or money are two different things
I didn't texture my ceiling, but it took a lot of time to fix nail pops and feather in tape lines. Some of the rooms I redid while I was still learning to drywall have spots that I missed. I don't blame anyone for opting for knockdown.
Yo
The Hefner mansion 2.0 .... I can't wait !! 🏘
Hope u recoup a profit on ur old house to pay for the new house, then sell the resort and catch up on bills
I think they're using the resort for cash flow, which should give a better return in the long run
@@robertm5969no he's listed it for sale

He should so lock that RUclips channel down!
Genuine question...Why do people still run textured ceilings? You rarely see them here in Australia. Super popular back in the 50's and 60's but no longer are they something you ever see in a new house or a renovation. They look quite outdated in my opinion and the flat plaster looks so nice and fresh when new.
yep, i dont get it.
Americans- Ew this house has popcorn ceilings.
Also Americans- When we renovate, we must install popcorn ceilings.
I’m guessing part of the reason is acoustics but I don’t know for sure.
I have popcorn ceilings in my place now but would love to replace them with real wood with a nice stain and sealer.
I’d like to go to sort-of a beach look so maybe a grayish driftwood-looking stain for the wood on the ceilings and floors, light blues and whites with some white wainscot on the walls.
Unfortunately I don’t have the money or talent to do what I’d like to but maybe one day.
Do you happen to know of any good RUclips channels for builders in Australia? I’d love to learn more about the popular building practices you mentioned there.
Some people run knockdown texture since it hides a lot of imperfections in the ceiling like nail pops, tape lines etc. Adding popcorn to new ceilings is very rare though.
The biggest gripe with texture is it makes patching a lot more difficult. If you ever need to patch a hole it's difficult to recreate the same texture as the rest of the ceiling as a DIYer.
@@donbrody8529 Nobody does popcorn ceilings anymore. Not sure where you hearing that from.
thought you had another house🤔
He has the rental lake house and another house he used to live in but he mentioned in a video a few videos back that he needed to move into this house in about 2 weeks.
I don’t know if he owned his prior house and sold if of was renting but it sounds like he had a deadline to get out of it.
Feeding the algorithm..

Pro tip? There is nothing pro about this rush job….or for that matter any of your rush jobs. There has been nothing on this house that has been done in any kind of “pro” order.
@@user-rp8ee4jj1c how was any of this a rush 😂 we spent a year to get to this point and it’s all perfect
It’s been a year of videos, wiring, water, professional Amish working on basement windows, he’s ripped out shoddy 1970s wiring and rewired to code almost the whole house. New garage doors too. Only so much you can put into a single video
