I have this same bike as a 2002, which is the Ultra-Classic, mine being the FLHTCUI, full fuel injection with the larger jugs. That bike is a 1998, first year of the Twin-Cam 88, which is one of their best engines. That bike will outlive you all. I rode mine, pulling a trailer behind it, for thousands of miles, coast to coast, in all sorts of weather. Jenson makes a great replacement stereo for it and there is every upgrade you can think of for that bike.
I don't understand people who just dump their stuff that is perfectly good except for one issue. Troubleshoot it, fix it, and ride on. You learn more about your bike, increase your knowledge, and save yourself money in the long run.
People that fix their own stuff are less than 10-15 of the population. Channels like this encourages more people to do it but people that work on their own stuff are still pretty rare.
I bought a 2006 Ultra Classic Peace Officer Edition back in February for $5k with 45,000 miles on it from the dealer. It was a "mechanics special". The "known" issues were the front motor mount and front tire needed replaced. The radio also didn't work. Ended up replacing the front tire, motor mount, radio, cam chain tensioners, camshaft bearings, and spark plugs. I also changed the engine, primary, and transmission oil. I upgraded the air intake and installed a fan assisted oil cooler. It's been running great so far with only a slight transmission leak at the clutch cable. it's a great cruiser. Enjoyed the video! Stay safe! I've been told that those ambient air temperature gauges are notorious for failure. Most of the time mine is pegged to the right. Every often it works. Hey Gabe, JR, and Eric!
Ok so first time ever on this channel, literally just stumbled across it. I’m a chopper dude, no baggers for me ever…but I did tech for Harley for a little over year…we worked on so so many of those bikes…they’re actually pretty simple machines…idk about the new M8’s…I’m sure they are quite a bit more complicated….cant beat an ol Evo big twin. Yank that engine out, convert it to a carb…find a nice rigid frame and slap the motor and trans in it. Trash everything else and build a Frisco chop ❤ I mean that’s what I’d do…😂 you guys are HILARIOUS!! I just keep on laughing. I freakin love it! Definitely gonna subscribe
Any barrel key will open a Harley gas cap. I forgot my keys while riding one day and needed gas. The gas station had a barrel key for the Coke machine that I borrowed to open my gas cap.
The evo is a great engine. If youre going to keep it i would swap in an ev13 camshaft and a good set of lifters and replace the inner cam bearing. Great bike.
I missed a great deal at a local estate auction recently while looking for Snap-On tools. A 2022 Ultra Limited sold for $4,500 before I arrived. Based on the other items being sold at the estate auction, no one would have expected to find a bike. You never know what you'll find at auctions.
Looks like you may have a dead short to ground somewhere that may be frying the relay and causing a no-charge issue. Check the hots for anything non working first. Then look for chaffing/burned areas on the wiring
Oh man you got a harley with new tires, that was like 99% of the struggles with your old harley lmao I love the bike content, I wish you would do more.
Well Done! Reminds me of a $600 All-Wheel Drive Husqvarna Lawn Mower that wouldn't start, so they gave it to a Small Engine Guy on RUclips. All that it needed was a NEW Air Filter!
That was one heck of a deal on the bike. I am sure you can get a few more videos out of it. You guys can take it on a durability road trip. Then a trip to the local Harley dealer to see what they would offer you for the bike.
You did great at $2500. You have the last year of the EVO engine. Certainly better than the early twin cams. Switch to a carb system, put a set of Scream'in Eagle heads, header exhaust and a mild cam and your good to go forever. PS. Ho yea and put a push button on the starter as a back up to the handlebar start switch. That give out when you least expect it....
Rode one of those from Beaverton OR to Mt. Hood in 2003. Super top heavy and the windshield is just the right height for major head buffeting. Heritage Softtail is a better bike.
They're not fog lamps. They,re called passing lamps and they come on only when the headlight is on low beam. I think it,s that way so that oncoming traffic will recognize you as a motorcycle in the dark.
I have a 1997 FLHTP police bike. The big issue for me when I bought it was the engine temperature sensor! Put a new one in and ran like new! Before I put that in it wanted to kill after bike got warmed up and idle all over.
Harley kick stands are the best in the world! Used to love to lean on my tour pack while talking to someone which would cause the bike to roll forward as if it was going to drop. People would freak out! Always made me laugh.😝
Put a meter to the battery. Should read about 12V. Then start the bike, should jump to around 14V. If not you probably have a bad stator or regulator. Always recommended to replace both when one goes bad, especially with a bike that old.
I love your videos to death, and as others mentioned, it is great to have Gabe and Erik in the video. That being said, this has to be one of the nerdiest motorcycles I have ever seen! It is just awful! lol :) Flamesuit on.
@@WatchJRGo I have owned 7 motorcycles in my life, only 1 was EFI. Never had a problem with any of the carbs. Even rejetted my Nighthawk and put straight pipes on it. Took about 1 hour. The best thing about carbs is, if they mess up they are cheap to replace. ( if you don't know how to rebuild it )
Evo time. Thinking mag morelli but I don’t know how it’s spelled. Hmm just started watching, I’m thinking mice at this point. Yeah them antennas are huge. Oh good save.
John, please come get my S80. It's as ready as Dorothy to go to Kansas. AWD, rain sensing wipers, front and rear heated seats... And a perfectly running 300hp I6. 780W Dynaudio stereo sounds amazing. :) I just need it gone my Polestar XC60 has taken it's place as a daily driver. It's got a Hilton tune as well :)

I said that things will likely change - may not be next year or the year after but eventually what you see in this Kawasaki will be your future....
@WatchJRGo Ok so Listen Jr. For this Harley Get the cigarette Lighter Optional accessory or it... Then get the Bluetooth to AUX adapter for your phone. Now you have your Phone connected. The Bluetooth device might need to be powered by the Cigarette lighter option UNLESS you figure out how to wire it in on a keyed constant. I mean you are an electrician. If you do wire it in on a constant then you dont need the optional cigarette lighter. I bet this can be done for less than $40 and a few hours max work. Plus it would be sweet. It is great motor, but change cam tensioner.
The nose cone is Evo all the way. This one isn't a Twin-Cam. Love your channel as well!

All I can say is that I appreciate the cool side quest projects that are fixed in 1-2 episodes.

19:56 Fiat 500
23:58 Vending machine.
What's about those?
I believe the 500 is from the Turo fleet days, Gabe bought it and probably drove it there.
Fiat is mine. Vending machine is a vending machine.

Good ol' Evo. Magneti Marelli fuel injection. Replace those fuel lines with the Goodridge ones!
