- Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel. In this video I am attempting to spin a coiled, (or beehive) art yarn on a drop spindle! Not an easy project, and takes patience, but doable.
The drop spindles are from Turkey, Chile, and Peru.
Sorry about the background noise. My store is located on a busy street and I forgot to close the door whiles filming, as you can hear with the blooper at the end!
Thanks for watching!
This is very useful, thank you for sharing how you did it! That yarn looks gorgeous! 😍
Thanks so much! I'm glad it helped 😊
Love it ❤️
Thanks!
This was very helpful! I just got a drop spindle and finding videos of people trying to spin art yarn has been hard. Excited to work my way to this technique.
I'm so glad it helped! I wish I could have made the video a bit better showing the spindle more. The technique is like "park and draft" and i think maybe it helps having the two yarns on a table in front where you can see how they wind together. It's a bit slow, but can be done! Good luck!
Thanks so much for doing this, Im without a wheel and need a small amount of bulky art yarn for Tapestry header and do have spindles TuxedoDeb Harpist & Environmental Artist🤵
Quite promissing, worth trying! Thank you for sharing! ☺️
It was tricky, but doable ☺️
It’s really nice. I am going to give it a try. Thank you.
This was great to watch. I haven't even received my drop spindle yet. And I am so fascinated and so excited to try spinning!!
Spinning with a drop spindle is great fun! I recommend starting slow, the "park and draft" technique is great for beginners. 😊
@@TheSheepsGarden I absolutely will! Thank you for the advice, I am taking it completely. New Subscriber. Thank you so much!
Spinning is so interesting! I would love to see you working in a spinning wheel!
Thanks what a good idea! I'll have to do a video with my spinning wheels 😊
Great video! I am wondering how did it was up? You were worried that the coils would flatten?
Thanks! It turned out ok, the coils held. It is harder than with a spinning wheel but going slowly it's doable 😊
thanks for sharing. I had wondered if it is possible. It looks difficult.
Possible, but slow. And it was a lot harder spinning a fat yarn on my spindle, it just didn't want to stay spinning. I think my spindles are made for thinner yarns.
@@TheSheepsGarden I am a new spinner and so far only on a drop spindle. I am more and more coming to think I need to get a wheel. I don't have a lot of money or space so it will have to be an e-spinner or a foldable castle. It would be a lot easier to ply generally on a wheel as my old arthritic hands/wrists struggle with the weight on the spindle. Thanks again.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
