  • Episode 584. Two Scotch releases I should have reviewed much earlier. The Balblair is hot, but has promise, while the Nectar d’Or is spicey and drying, but sweet. Have you had either? #glenmorangie #balblair #whiskyneighbour

I love reviews of older bottles because it helps us understand where a distillery has been, historically, and where it's going next. Great reviews Jon, still some of this old branding Nectar D'or near me as well. Cheers Neighbour 🥃

Glad you still find a little value in these. I feel bad if I don't get to an expression in a timely fashion.

Hey Jon, great review of Balblair 05 and Glenmo Nectar D'Or. I have yet to crack open and try Balblair 12 that I have. I believe I also purchased a 15 at a later date. I have had Glenmo 10, and Quinta Ruban 12 (old bottling) though. They have distinct fruitiness with some spicing for sure. I treated myself to a Glenmorangie sampler pack in Dec 2023 and a 100ml bottle of Nectar D'Or came as part of that pack and it was pretty good and best of the bunch.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I really should tried this Balblair against the 15. Cheers!

Hey Jon! Thank you for the great review. I had the same old version of Nectar D’or 12 and I also found it quite spicy. Revisiting older bottles are always fun! Cheers Jon! 🥃

Really nice review. I just recently bought a bottle of the D'or and totally enjoyed it, actually my second bottle. Your notes were spot on. It is funny that the same day you reviewed the D'or, so did Try Before We Die. However, Colin And Malcolm did not know they were to review the D'or until Randy 2.0 selected it. Very similar review. However, they did not mention the D'or was discontinued. Sláinte!

Lots of people have said D'or is still around. I could not find it on their site, but that doesn't mean much. It could be a little hidden. Thanks for sharing, I'll have to run over and see their take! Glad you enjoy it. Cheers!

Great video Jon. Digging the flavour profile of the Glenmorangie. I have only tried the 10 which is pretty one dimensional and the 14 which I found pretty good. LCBO has bottles still in the system for $144 each which is a tad high for the offerings but I’ll be watching for clear outs on this one. Thanks for sharing.

That is too high for this offering. Spicy and dry, but not rich enough for that price!

I've seen plenty of the Nectar d'Or on our shelves here in Texas, and I think it's in the new branding. Either way, please, bring anything and everything to the channel when you see fit ... it's all fun to hear about whether it's still out there or not. At least that's my 2 cents. Thanks, Jon! Cheers!

Thanks for the encouragement! I often feel bad if I think these expressions have passed. Take care!

Both fantastic drams! Balblair has been more consistent compared to Glenmorangie in what they put out I think. I love the Nectar D'or. I enjoyed the 12, the NAS but I haven't tried the very rare 15 year old. I am super curious about the new 16 year old one but that's not just Sauternes, they have white port (seems to be very popular these days) casks as well. Cheers Jon, what an enjoyable review!

Thanks for sharing your insights into both of these releases and a bit more on the history or evolution of D'or. I did see they added another cask in there too. Cheers!

Hmmm...LCBO show the Nectar D'Or 12 as widely available here at the moment, $145. Wouldn't pay that for it personally.
No Balblair at all around, and I can't recall the last time I saw it in Ontario.
Recently bought the Glenmo QR 14. I'm a fan of Port finishes, so looking forward to it. I've only had it once, about a year and a half back, with a dear friend who has since passed away. Enjoyed it very much at the time. It was a favourite of his, so my thoughts (when I open it) will be of him.
Looks as though you're slowly coming out of the deep freeze at last. Bet you're glad of that!
    Cheers to the weekend 🥃🥃

Walked in the sunshine today. Felt great! Odd this is so much more than QR 14. I prefer QR to this. Also, again ouch, when are your prices going to come down!!

Yeah well, I have the Balblair 05 unopened stashed on a shelf, sounds like it can stay there a little longer😂 I was contemplating grabbing a Nectar d'Or when I realized they had discontinued it, but like you say it sounds lacking compared to the Lasanta and Quinta Ruban.

The d'Or is still good, just more subtle maybe? Especially if you have an earlier 05. This one is almost grassy. Cheers!

Hi Jon! I’m very much looking forward to you reviewing Balblair 15 as it is one of my favorite Scotch whiskeys. Incidentally, I bought a bottle of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 from Costco about a year ago, and it’s the only bottle of whiskey that I disliked so much that I poured it down the drain after getting just past the neck to the shoulder after a week. It had a horrible skunk cabbage finish that I couldn’t get past. I haven’t bought anything else from their lineup since.

The 15 will be a great one to review. QR 14 down the drain? Odd. I have not had that reaction to it.

    • @rbmelk7083
      @rbmelk7083 2 месяца назад

Yeah, it was really odd. It had this terrible sour/skunk cabbage/weed killer aftertaste that I couldn’t clear off my palate for thirty minutes or so. I tried it three different times over the course of a couple weeks, and it was worse each time. I didn’t want to share it or give it away because it was so bad, so I dumped it. It was the first and only time I ever dumped a bottle of whiskey.

@@rbmelk7083 That sounds horrible! I'm not getting that in this one. Slight sour, a bit of youth almost white wine, but not that!
