My favorite was one that came out several years ago, the Tusail. It was made with Marris Otter barley, which interested me at the time when I was homebrewing English ales. More nutty / malty and not as sweet as the usual GM 10, it was really good. If I ever see it again I'm snagging a couple of bottles.

Makes sense, Tokaji and Sauternes live in the same neighborhood... I think that profile really suits Glenmorangie's spirit well. Never had the Cake but this was my favorite of their core range, by quite a bit.

Thanks Bill! I have greatly appreciated your channel, my favorite is the La Santa. I would love to see you review knob creek 12 year. One of the best values in my opinion.

Thank god I love Sauternes. I personally think in order to appreciate and admire whiskies (including Scotch) is to appreciate wine first. That way we can pick up more aroma profiles. Sauternes can be highly complex especially in great vintages. Although it is not as popular as it use to be but it's a good time to enjoy a bottle or two without breaking the bank. Cheers

Definitely a solid pour. The 12 yr Quinta Ruban got me started on scotch, and then the flight that was Quinta Ruban, Lasanta and Nectar D'Or got me hooked.

Thats actually crazy to think of what got YOU started into scotch. I think that inspired my community post for tomorrow

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Summer of 2018, I was enjoying Bourbon and Irish, but couldn't stand Scotch (thought it was the smoke, realized years later it must be the malt that wasn't working for me then). One Friday night on vacation, a friend that knew how I loved Port shared a sip of his Quinta Ruban with me, and my wallet has forever hated him.

Glenmorangie would actually be a really good candidate for the next vertical. Nothing they have is particularly expensive, and they have a ton of different expressions that are easy to find. I think my local liquor store has like 7 or 8 different Glenmorangie products, most of which are under $100 I feel like. I've never had any of their whiskey but a vertical of their core lineup might give me a good place to start! Cheers!

I had it on hand an did the tasting with you. I found the nose to be more bright than the taste. Definitely picked up on the tannins that you mentioned. I also got the malt influence as well as a bit of barrel char/smokiness at the end. Glad I had some around and could try it along with you!

Big fan of the 14. The 18 isn’t the best but I love the experience it gives me. Feels like I’m drinking much older whisky and at its price point it’s a great buy. Signet also provides a very unique experience.

PX Sherry is definitely on the ultimate sweet side for wine, but I like it. I've been enjoying sweet Sherries since I wanted to try it after having so many Sherried scotch. PX can be too sweet for a lot of people, so a regular sweet sherry would be a better starting point.
Glenmorangie in general doesn't rustle my jimmies, but I really liked the Tale of Cake and Signet.

Quinta Ruban is easily my favorite Glenmorangie. Although I prefer Arran Port Cask to it, it is still a worthy and cheaper substitute.
I found the Nectar D'or to be just ok, but I think it's more the profile as not being a favorite style of mine than any issue with the quality of the whisky. I kind of feel the same way about the Arran Sauternes Cask, good stuff, but just not my favorite style.

Does it say 12 years old anywhere on that bottle?

  • @Faz_60hurts

Bottle in the thumbnail is the long discontinued 12 year old. Rumour mill says the age statement is coming back, but for this review (NAS) you have to assume that the youngest whisky in the bottle is sub-12 years. I've only tried the old 12. I found it quite hot compared to the QR 12.

I found it hot and harsh. Certainly, way over-priced. I'll stick with the Quinta Ruban.

Easily my least favorite of the core 4 Glenmorangies. Just does nothing for me. I'd choose the quinta ruban. The Arran Sauternes cask is way better as well. Cheers Bill

I’ve tried to like this scotch a lot but I just couldn’t after multiple tries. Eventually I dumped it😊
