- High on Fire played at the Hi Pointe in St. Louis on August 17th, 2003. We had a shit ton of tech problems with our video cables and the audio is blown out. Not one of our better ones but still nice to document HOF first time in St. Louis.

Des' drum performance on Surrounded by Thieves is amazing!
F awesome, brilliant live! Y can say that by eyes n teeth already! Sir pike is one of my heros on guitar since childhoods end (beggining of sleep)! Rockon brthrz & sstrz!
PS , yes. The drummer is a machine- got to have that drummer, always the driving force so that guitar n vocals may unfold to manifest their true potential. I envy themdrummerz!
Des is an amazing heavy drummer! Great HOF era!
Damn pikes voice sounded good in these early days, full, throaty, downright aggressive as can be.
Awesome video!!!! I was saw this tour, back in 2003 in Boston. Thanks again! PIKE forever. high on fire are metal saviours!
GREAT video. Thanks for sharing. Saw them last night at the Firebird, St. Louis.
Thank you for posting this, love this era of HOF.
Awesome to see some old footage
pike was pretty sloppy drunk, i was so pissed when they were skipping hung drawn and quartered cause its my fav. from SBT, iam glad i didnt rage quit cause he actually played it pretty well lol
great post
I want that Bass that George is using in this vid!
Des's drumming is INSANE from 17:31-17:47; FUCK!
Right on!
Hell yea dude!
Hank III has all his old Green cabs now.
+Keith Byers is this fact? I know Hank III uses greens but are they the exact ones of Matt's?
I am pretty sure somebody close to Matt told me that. I think the ones that are battered are the ones he got from Matt.
broke 2 strings lol, wish i was there!
The song speed wolf is about the guy from green amps and Matt pike having a big fallout. That's why you start to see around this era that hof start covering up anything that says green with duct tape. Rumor has it that the dude from green amps gave hof the cabs and heads on good faith telling them to pay him back once they start taking off and making money and I guess they never paid green back so idk. Read the lyrics for speed wolf too.
+David Lo pan Matamp, green amp isn't a company.
Well if you knew you're history you would know there was never once a company called Green Amps. I shall digress, .A man, by the name of Joel Wheeler, was fed up with his rat race life selling insurance, so he quit his job and moved to Las Vegas. Now at this time (mid1990's) Matamp is producing small numbers of Green amps, Wheeler became completely obsessed with these amps after watching Sleep play a show in Seattle. After shooting several faxes to Matamp and offering to pay all shipping costs himself Wheeler receives his GREEN MATAMP. He eventually will become the USA importer for Matamp under the name ELECTRIC AMP, all the Green Matamps went through him, and were serviced by him as at this time Matamp was recovering old orange matamps in green and sending them out many were quite shotty. Electric Amp today builds amps inspired by the Matamps(GREEN, WHITE, BLACK, RED, PURPLE and ORANGE covering available) not exact clones as Wheeler has his own twist on the design but almost the same. Never once was there a company just called Green.
As for Orange amplifiers we gotta flash back to the 1960's (three decades before green amps were and idea) and we will find Mat Mathias building amplifiers in the space behind his wife's retail shop, first working under the name RadioCraft and then Matamp. Early Matamps were White or Black. Matamp becomes known for impeccable quality standards, meanwhile a man named Cliff Cooper owns a music shop in London simply called Orange. Cliff wants his very own line of amplifiers, and decides to team up with Matamp. Orange MATAMPS take off like wild fire, eventually the partnership comes to an end when Mat refuses to lower quality standards in favor of higher production (they outsold Marshall in 1971) In 1972 the world sees the release of the first ORANGE brand amplifier, the 1972 PICS ONLY PLEXI FRONT OR120. This is also the first amp to bare the Oange "VOICE OF THE WORLD" Crest/Seal. Though quite similar to the Matamp design the OR120 is very much its own thing, nobody ripped anyone off.
Yea your right I met and checked up on the history a lot. What I meant to say was that I read somewhere that orange and matamp had a partnership of some kind but orange spilt an pretty much ripped off matamp with their design.
I have that soldano sp77 preamp, the purple one you see on the rack mount. But I can't find any carvin poweramp that resembles the one Matt is using here below the sp77 you have any idea what kind of carvin he's using? I think it has eq settings on it too.
no complaints here.
Anybody care to weigh in on what the pedal is in the closeup between 45-46 minutes in?
It looks like a pedal one of his heads would come with stock. Just changes between clean channel and overdrive channel.
setlist, anyone?
Matt pike looks like post Malone in this lol
does anyone know what amp head matt is using??
One that breaks alot from the looks of it! Naa some kind of Laney i think though
Louis Clarke I was digging through some old photos, I knew he used Laney Aor series. I came across an old photo of Matt using a similar setup as seen in the video. Its an Old Soldano and a Carvin slave or pre amp
Nice, i know Pikes big on the Soldano amps. I saw them last year and he was using a Blackstar head as well, the series 200 i think it was in conjunction with another head (probably Soldano) but i couldn't tell
laney, soldanos, and matamps man
On this one, he's using his Soldano SP77 preamp into a Carvin preamp. His Greens are in there somewhere, too.
@22:51 my head exploded.
27:05
Is he drunk or what? Sings like shit...guitar ist still good.
+Matt R. A lot of Matt's singing live takes a back seat to his guitar playing. His lyrics only need to be growled out. That is the beauty of making the mind melting metal that HOF has.
old matt pike used to get wasted
older matt pike doesnt drink alcohol anymore so his singing has improved on live shows
I'll see them tonight in stl mo.
What? I like it better than his current singing.
whatchu talkin bout willis? his singing is fine. its clearer than his aged vocal chords now.
