I like how Pike´s riffs are mostly on the middle of the guitar neck. Most metal is made up on the lower notes up in the neck. But Matt make them middle, to bottom while using upper part off course. He uses his axe completely, though I feel that mid-usage prevails the most. Very unique. An insane riff god.
Both sets are incredible (early and this late set), think I might prefer this one just a "weeee" bit more - might be the best version of "Snakes of the Divine" I have heard. The "Rise Up/Fall Down" sections rule with Matt putting a tiny dose of (dare I say) "melody" in there. Best band in metal today bar none IMO. Instead of regressing, these guys just get better and better. Been watching all of the 2015 shows I've been able to find and the band are just hitting on all cylinders at this point. Going on 44 and Matt's better than he was at 26 (God I do love that early stuff too though).
