I can't get over how cute and adorable Billy is! I always thought he was the cutest hobbit as well. But how is he STILL so cuddly???? I love when he looks right at the camera or breaks into song! And Dominic just gets more and more handsome each day like a fine wine. This podcast is my comfort and healing from my every day life.
38:18 Billy was correct about Dom's first line being wrong unfortunately. He says how much wood wood a wood chuck wood. Its supposed to be > wood chuck chuck < but I love this segment so much I don't even care would love to here more tongue twisters.
Absolutely loved the tongue twisters you both did. I'm so glad you both carried on your friendship from the LOTR and share it with us each week. I too love the Granny Smith apples and associate that with my youth from the grandparents apple orchard.
You are true PERFORMERS that exhibit the utmost professionalism, personality, and authenticity I didn’t realize was missing from my life. So organized, yet pleasant and fluid, incredible banter from such charismatic, warm, and fascinating people. Love your brains, onions! Thank you for this. Thank you so much.
As someone from Nice in France, I think you gave me the best laugh I had since a month or two ! Thank you for your show, just loving it, keep going ! Btw, with the tongues twisters, it's so joyful to see that you are basically two children trapped in adults body , having so much fun and laugh over this small competition haha
When I was growing up, we listened to a select number of cassettes on road trips. We would listen to an abridged version of the LotR as well as a Beatles compilation. I always thought Paperback Writer was "PaperBlack Rider" and I would picture the ring wraiths while belting it out in our family van!
You guys can do hobbits in space, dressed half as hobbits and half as members of a spaceship, would be hilarious and amazing to see all of the hobbits back together playing a game
Thanks for a great episode, guys! I love Illusions by Richard Bach, awesome book. Billy's book is Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. Also, Billy was absolutely correct with his red flag, when you do a playback you will note that Dom's initial winning tongue twister first line had an extra/incorrect "wood/would" -- disqualified! Both of you guys were looking especially healthy and handsome today. I am going to eat an apple today.
When I'm at work, I'm usually alone. For a while, I was trying to come up with tongue twisters, basically to amuse myself and keep my mind busy. Some that I came up with are: Phenomenal aluminum anomalies. Six chic chefs slice six sheep shanks. Bad room, rad broom, bride groom. Beware! A wee bar wench bares bar ware.
When it comes to apples, here in Serbia people make alcoholic drink we call "Rakija" out of many fruits, including apples. Most famous type of rakija called Slivovitz is made of plums. You can also make them out of pears, apricot, quince etc. Drink is basically like vodka, but with fruity taste.
My fave misheard lyric came out of my 8 year old's mouth (at the time...she's 16 now)...Instead of "Hit me with your best shot" by Pat Benatar she thought it was "Hit me with your pet shark"...;-)
To my shock when I tune in this week to find these two lovely gents have pronounced my last name correct... Absolutely brilliant thanks guys! Ps. Greek background but from Canada :D
I love tongue twisters as much as I love watching Billy and Dom my favorite two actors 😍, Billy and Dom means so much to me I'm so happy to watch them every single day on Lord Of The Rings and The Friendship Onion
How did you make potato pancakes sound so wonderful? We've been eating those my whole life. But I usually have patties. The same concept. But instead of rolling the "dough" out and cutting into triangles, we just make patties like you would make a hamburger. Brown on top and bottom and fluffy on the inside. To add flavor we would mince chives and add to the dough. Also really good with sour cream. These are similar to latkes...which use shredded potatoes instead of mashed. So many people in the world love potato pancakes of some type. Some love to put applesauce on their latkes.
With left over mashed potatoes you can mix in an egg, salt/pepper, garlic, etc..and make into shapes of pancakes and fry it in butter and brown crispy on the outside. We call them potato pancakes and they are great for any meal.
Remember the second time we see Merry in the Fellowship of the Ring, Merry is munching on an apple. I guess that is just one of the similarities Dom has with his character.
I don't even care what you guys talk about I love listening to your voices. What I wish more than anything else, though, is to listen to you both alternate chapters on everything J. R. R. Tolkien ever wrote.
I absolutely love the accent you did about gas prices.. I came for Critical Role segment but ,I am totally drawn in by the wit and charismatic nature you two have. Im glad I finally found a new place to listen while I work/ cook/ driving to errands. keep up the great work. You both are Gems
I have a tongue twister for ya: "Burglar alarm burgled the burglars burgled lama laying burgled in burglar alarm town in lard lama alarmed burgled burglar alarms house" good luck Billy :)
Mumford and Sons- Sigh No More, "man is a guinea pig" (actual lyrics...man is a giddy thing). I kept singing that, thought 'that can't be right' looked it up... now I sing guinea pig anyway still 😆
Listening to these two talking about food reminds me of Jeff Goldblum giving the recipe for a Reuben sandwich on the Marc Maron podcast. I am so hungry now.
Love this podcast! I don't know if Billy's aware but Arthur C. Clarke's Rendezvous with Rama is being adapted into a film to be directed by the one and only Denis Villeneuve (Canada represent!)
My mom always made what we called “potato cakes”. The same thing as the scones but we did ours as a circle. I make them even still when we have left over mashed potatoes. So yummy!
Dying with laughter over the tongue twisters. I would fail horribly. For an Eat the World segment, I’d love to see you eat some Aplets and Cotlets. My Auntie Jean and my dad Jerry used to both love them, and every time my dad and I visited Washington State, we’d always bring some back for Auntie Jean. My dad passed last year, and my auntie’s been gone for 12 years now. But this would be an amazing tribute to them.
Hearing songs wrong: I thought for YEARS that Timbaland's "It's too late to apologize" was "It's too late to call the giants". My friend almost died from laughing when I told her🤣
Stoooop it!! Today I was looking up breakfast recipes from around the world, right? Then I come listen to my favorite fellas and you were talking about Second Breakfast recipes!! I love you guys! Keep up the good work!!
That was truly delightful. An apple. You can put it in some sort of pie 🤣 You must try apple pie, Dom. I am quite certain you will appreciate its novel flavour 🙃😂
I was going to say Dom messed up the first line #flagonplay I love the Scottish accent, but it's so amazing to hear a Scotsman doing tongue twisters (there's a Scotsman online that people send him tongue twisters to read and it's brilliant)
I love granny Smith apples slices with sunflower butter. Honey crisp is another good type. One of my favorite fiction books is The Well of Lost Plots by Jasper Fforde. Love your podcast 💕
Haha this was so fun! Those tongue twisters were so funny. I’ve not had a good time with talking today been very tired and that gets me tongue tied. 😂😂
"To sit in solemn silence on a dull dark dock..."...Toy Boat 5x is a great one too! Ugh brings me back to theater kid days 🥺 And cheers to some flowers for one of my favorite foods! Never a bad time for an 🍎 Thanks guys, a delight as always and all the best from Little Rhody!
I love you, guys, and I love the movies and the books; you said the thing about apples again, and while it's not wrong, I'll just repeat what I said the first time: "the average adult would need to eat anywhere from 150 to several thousand crushed seeds (depending on the apple variety) to be at risk of cyanide poisoning. The average apple contains only about five to eight seeds. So unless someone is eating their 18th consecutive apple core and has been meticulously chewing all the seeds, they should be fine with their occasional absentminded core chomping." Cheers, my dear hobbits!
I was getting excited when you were talking about the potato/flour combo because I didn’t know anyone knew about it. But when you roll it flat and cook it like a tortilla, it’s actually a Norwegian food called lefse, normally eaten with butter and brown sugar and you roll it up- hence the triangle, similar to croissants, triangles make it easier to roll especially when filled!
I have long been a big fan of tongue twisters. Here's my all-time favorite: Esau Wood sawed wood. Esau Wood would saw wood. Oh, the wood that Wood would saw! Of all the wood-saws Wood ever saw saw wood, Wood never saw a wood-saw that would saw like the wood-saw Wood saw saw wood would. Now Esau saws with that saw he saw saw wood.

Scrambled eggs and potato scones. That does sound like a great breakfast. My dad used to make blueberry muffins once a week. It was great to wake up to, but I can't find his recipe.
I would put the apple just under the banana as the perfect fruit. The banana is self-packaged, self-proportioned, and so quick to grow, plus not being like 90% water like most other fruits. I've been eating bananas for breakfast for so long, and they never fail.
I don't even know what to say, you both mean so much to me and I just love you both so much and I hope your podcast lasts for many years to come🥰🥰
Ya dude, just such an enjoyable comfort blanket of words.

The tongue twister bit was gold. Haven't laughed that hard in a while!!! Thanks guys

Made me hungry WHILE I was eating dinner.
Gotta say, this episode was perfectly delightful. I love seeing the two of you enjoy being together and making each other laugh

I believe that Billy Boyd is too precious for this world. I love this podcast so much.
More tongue twisters please! 😋 So fun!
My 5 year old thinks the end of "Smell like teen spirit" is Kurt Cobain yelling "A POTATO" over and over again

Does Billy mean the Rendezvous with Rama trilogy by Arthur C Clarke? Fabulous books!
Also, the apple feature reminded me of one of my favorite books and authors - The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan. Here's a quickie from The New Yorker about it: "Apples, tulips, marijuana, and potatoes. This sounds, perhaps, like a Dutch shopping list, but it's really a quick index to the subjects of Pollan's new book. One day, while working in his garden, the author began to wonder how his role as a sower of seeds differed from that of the bumblebee that was pollinating a nearby apple tree; his musings inspired these tales of botanical transformation. Pollan explores the ways in which four common crops have enjoyed and suffered the very best and worst of human intentions: how apples spread westward with American settlers, how the stock of tulips has soared and crashed, how the potency of marijuana has been exalted even as the plants have been miniaturized, and how potatoes have been turned into a cog in the genetic-industrial complex. The result is a wry, informed pastoral.
Copyright © 2005 The New Yorker" - I highly recommend the read (even though you both have a list too long already!) along with his book The Omnivore's Dilemma (which is worthy of its own entire podcast). Better yet, have Michael Pollan on the show and have him discuss human's relationship with plants!
