Way back in 2002 when the first of the peerless extended DVD sets came out and I first heard about Mark Ordesky, I was bowled over by his enthusiasm and his charm. So great to know he's just as enthusiastic and charming (and busy) as ever. What a wonderful guy and as someone who was instrumental in bringing one of my favourite movie series to the screen, a person I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to... Cheers, Mark!

    • @annastevens1526
      @annastevens1526 2 года назад

Agreed! In the BTS I found it slightly difficult to tell how much was personal enthusiasm and how much was just professional poise, so hearing his stories here of early intro to LOTR via D&D was brilliant and really helped explain why he was so dedicated to getting the films across the line? Would be fascinating to hear more about his other projects for New Line.

what a brilliant pair of episodes, I loved every minute of Mark's stories from his work and life! Thanks so much for having him on. I think a lot of us have some notion of what actors do, and even some of the behind the scenes stuff like makeup, costumes (me!), and of course the LOTR extended edition box sets taught us all about lighting and set design, etc etc etc. But it's not as obvious what a producer does, and it's so interesting and so essential! And he's such a lovely person througout.

I've always wondered where Hollywood producers come from. Like, who moves to California to produce movies? To learn of Mark's path answers some questions I've long had. Kind of evolve into it from aspiring script writer, to script reader to whatever intermediate steps to knowing the right people and being in the right place and having the right skills to persevering to... Is it typical? I don't know. But it seems more likely than what I imagined: they pop out of the ground in April.

Regarding Imposter Syndrome: it’s not just about feeling you don’t deserve your accolades, but also convincing yourself you’re a fraud. I am a grown woman just a few years younger than Dom, and I often have moments when I am in a business meeting where I know for a fact I am the most knowledgeable person in the room in my specific field, and I still have the feeling that at any moment someone might jump up and go: “Aha! You’re not a real grownup, you’re just pretending!”

Can’t imagine anyone else in the role. These films honestly have some of the best casting ever.

Wonderful. I've been looking forward to this since last week's part 1. Remind me to develop a talent so Mark can pay my restaurant bills.
Anyway, Merry's 'sword (really a dagger) may not have had a name but it was made in Arthedain by the ancestors of Aragorn for use in their wars with The Witch King of Angmar. It was imbued with powerful spells against the Witch King and it was for this reason that Merry's blow felled the Witch King, then the Lord of the Nazgul, at the Battle of Pelennor Fields. So it was not ordinary in any sense. In the book it was given to Merry by Tom Bombadil when he rescued the hobbits from the Barrow Wight, but as this chapter wasn't in the film I left my first viewing of Fellowship wondering if the reason for Merry's success in battle was going to be explained. It wasn't.

What a coincidence, I work in a grocery store and I was listening to your podcast when you guys eat the world with the mochi, and would you believe it, I was stocking mochi as well!
This also happened with the van leeuwen ice cream with the wonderful Brian Green!
So if you are ever in Austin, TX and want some frozen treats, please step in!

Thanks guys, great interview with Mark Ordesky. Another miss heard lyric which I think is called a mondegreen! AC/DC long way to the top if you want to rock and roll. My husband use to sing it’s a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll.😜😜

I would love to see an interview with some of the scale doubles from the trilogy.
I feel we so rarely hear from them even though many of them had as much screen time as almost any other character

Absolutely!! They seemed to be a really international bunch from what one saw in the LOTR BTS, with some great senses of humour? Would be fascinated to hear what they've been up to since the films wrapped, and how they & their families are getting on through the past couple of years' craziness...?

My favourite misheard lyric is one I read in a newspaper article when I was a kid - someone misheard Waterloo by ABBA as Portaloo. I sing it that way to this day - ‘Portaloo, couldn’t escape if I wanted to.’
Love the podcast! A little caffeine shot of joy in my weekly commute. When Dom was talking about mishearing Mr Boombastic, something about that really tickled me - I laughed so hard I nearly stalled my car at the lights. Thanks for the laughs!

We've all had that moment of paranoia that a portaloo lock or door may jam and trap us in that rather malodorous space! 😂 Great mis-recited lyrics...

Please, please touch on Adventures in Middle Earth : it’s 5e D&D but set in Tolkien’s world.
I’ve been running a campaign for nearly 5 years if you wanna talk to a fan about it 😅
