Pretty chill dude. He always stood out to me in the Appendices and nothing has changed. Thanks for the cool interview
@hey it's pete 😂 it's true
@hey it's pete your comment is very refridgerated.
How do you always have all these huge huge guests!? Amazing.
It’s so cool that after 20 years of questions directed at him about the movies he can still give in depth answers and information. The questions haven’t lost their luster for him.
This is a year old but I’m just getting to it! And I have to say it’s my favorite! Mark had so many good things to say that aren’t just relevant to the topic but to life! Thank you guys! Love the channel!
Read to my kids before the movies came out; played Enya in the background because it just felt right.
Really appreciate this particular interview because producers are the people running the merry go round... desperately trying to keep everything together soo smoothly that all the elements only think about the fun and don't notice the function. I also like that you ask real questions that made it personal. Also I need to post on my wall... "if your scared to do something... do it scared"... thanks again.
Most people have no idea how important executive producer work really is.
Outrageously enlightening! Bravo!!!
I’m reading LotR to my 7 and 5 year old sons at bedtime, and we’re currently at “The Houses of Healing”. Once we finish, we’ll be watching the (extended) movie trilogy!
This interview dovetails nicely with that!
My reaction the first time I saw FotR was: “They’ve achieved the impossible.”
We finished last week. Now we're watching the movies!
@@quaffdowngin What did they think? Any difference in reactions between the two, from age or anything else?
@@mattrountree. They both loved the movies! My 5 year old got a little scared at times (Shelob), but he was still totally in to it. I have much of the Toybiz 6" action figure line, so they've been having a blast with those.
@@quaffdowngin That is so great! Also very nice that you built a new bond between you and your kids. What a quick response, thanks Scott.
@@mattrountree. No way I would let them watch the movies before experiencing the books. Never. Also incredible for me, as although I have read the books multiple times (6,7,8?), never have I read it out loud, until now, which was insane.
Matt loved this interview - It was so interesting to hear about Mark's experiences - cheers dude.
So glad you enjoyed it! It was an absolute joy speaking with Mark! Great guy!!
Yeh, I loved it - love your interviews and so looking forward to your chat with 'Merry' and 'Pippin'. Keep up the good work - your channel is fab.
PS - I totally get that PJ had to cut certain things from the books to make the LOTR flow as a film but would of loved to have seen the barrow wights/fog on the barrow downs!
Also I’ve seen pictures of more footage of the Battle of the Last Alliance with Isildur, Elendil and Gil-Galad. Seeing Gil-Galad help to defeat, and be killed by Sauron would make my day. Deleted scenes in the anniversary addition, anyone?
Thank you very much for this interview. Mark had a pivotal role (and very challenging position) in creating some of the greatest movies of all time - it's fascinating to hear his perspectives. And that Mark got to be in the editing room for the whole trilogy is amazing. His life lessons towards the end of the interview are outstanding - and show him to be a humble and lovely guy. Not your typical hollywood movie executive!
Brilliant insights into the best trilogy of all time.
Really well done. Big League stuff. I watched Mark in a few interviews way back when LOTR films were coming out and thought he sounded like a down-to-earth guy that I would enjoy having a chat with. This confirmed it.
He is a great guy, for sure! Really enjoyed speaking with him. Thanks for watching!
Good Job Buddy
Try to get Peter Jackson on the channel sometime
That will be epic
Phillipa Boyens, too!
@@quaffdowngin Liv Tyler and Miranda Otto too would be a good choice as a guest
This is such a cool interview! Great job!
@@quaffdowngin Fran and Phillipa - my two ladies heroes :)
Viggo is a must!
Man, the end of this got me a little misty eyed. You could see Mark was genuinely taken aback and flattered when you told him he bows to no one. Aw! Great interview!!
Damn, I'm not even to that point in the interview, but this comment on its own made me a little teary-eyed 😅
My son got me Collectors' editions of all the movies - which, of course, have the "making of" appendices. Some of the funniest comments I ever heard - came out of Mark Ordesky's mouth. He's hilarious - and could also have been a comedy writer. Loving this interview . . .
This was an excellent interview. Very well done.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Mark is a great guest.
Thank you to both Nerd and Mark! This was great!
Another knockout interview. Thanks Matt!
It’s cool to just chill with Mark and listen to him tell his part of the story of the creation of these films. There are so many people involved and so many stories. I just want to hear them all, and just when I think we’ve heard them all, a new one surfaces.
I love how respectful Mark Ordesky looked!
(especially his clothing choice and cheerful demeanour 😁)
Geez, I always miss the great stuff. Tell him thank you for sharing his experience with us.
What great questions! Fantastic - thanks both of you
Enjoyed this but I would definitely get someone to give you a hand during these interviews. Even if they are just remotely helping you out and moving your mouse around, selecting the questions, and listening via discord or something, they can help you out immensely. I could tell this was definitely taking a toll on your attention. Regardless, fantastic. As always, I love the channel and what you do here for us. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback. That’s a really good idea to have someone pulling questions from the chat. Managing my own questions & graphics is easy, but trying to keep up with the chat at the same time is definitely a lot to multitask!
Thank you for uploading the interview. I sadly missed the live interview and it is such a pleasure to listen you guys talk about the books and movies :)
By the time Return of the King was released, I kept telling everyone it was going to sweep. I got ‘nerd alert’ comments and eye rolls. Bloody fine Oscars show. Mile wide grinning and whoops.
A very nice interview. Thanks!
Really amazing to listen to him! Thank you for making this Matt! Greetings from Poland 😊
amazing interview and discussion
Ah!!! This is wonderful! 😃😃
So glad you like it! It was a truly delightful time talking with Mark!
My all time favorite films. I have a marathon every year for my birthday. And the appendices. Simply brilliant.
This has been wonderful. Thank you!
This was an unexpected delight to watch. Thanks for sharing!
Damn I'm surprised you got him on here . Remembered him alot from the appendices 😁 you're getting some good guests
I really enjoyed listening to your interview. Mark's advice at the end to make/create is so good. It's easy to become overwhelmed with the idea of a project or the thought that it won't be perfect. But if you put your heart in it and try, even if it doesn't turn out perfectly - that's so valuable :)
I was introduced to Tolkien through the movies. I don't say this lightly an I know i speak on behalf of other Tolkien fans. Thank you and to everyone else who was involved in the making of these films and bringing Tolkien's fantasy world to life on the big screen.
He seems so nice
Also: CAT!!!!
He is such a great guy!
Mark seem’s a great guy. Terrific interview 😊👍
So good! Great questions and fascinating interview!
Awesome insightful interview! Found your channel on Deep Geek, love your content.
Great interviews man
Mark Ordesky also introduced western audiences to Jackie Chan ^^
Love hearing about what it took in order to shoot these films. Blows my mind they pulled it all together, but.....
Aragorn over Beren.....
Eh
I remember watching the 1st 5 min of fellowship of the ring, about the western alliance.... o.m.g I had the biggest nerd gasm
awesome
I think that the ONE thing that Peter, Fran & Philippa did - that made the project so successful at the outset - and as it has proven to be over the past almost-25 years - was that they treated the Story the same way Tolkien did. It was a true, actual History - and they were simply using the medium of Film to tell this very old story of actual Historical events. Until then. "Fantasy" as a genre had been all pink & blue, fluffy Disney princesses with magic wands and characatured evil witches . . .
But Jackson's version of LOTR closely matched Tolkien's idea that this was History - something that was REAL, and had actually happened - and they were blessed to have been able to utilise the original sites to retell the Story on film. So nothing was perfect and idealised - all was as "real" and gritty as actual Life can be. It was all so real, and believable - and immediately immersible. When I saw that first scene of Gandalf riding into Hobbiton - it so perfectly matched the pictures in my head of Middle Earth that I'd visited over & over since 1967 - when I'd read the books for the first time (I was 18 yrs old). I disappeared from the "real" world for not only the running time of the movie - but for days, weeks afterwards. I couldn't WAIT for the other two movies.
And now - every September - my bestie & I get together and have a LOTR fest over a two-day week-end.. We watch all the movies in chronological sequence - starting with "The Hobbit" trilogy - and then the LOTR trilogy. We make and serve all the Hobbit meals . . . we are, in fact, Hobbits for those two days. And I know we're not the only ones who do this. Peter Jackson picked the EXACTLY right people for the cast - and brought beloved characters (and the places they lived) to life. Even the initial mis-cast of Aragorn - worked itself out to ending up with the ONLY person who could have played Aragorn. Forever thankful for these two series.
PS - I still have the original copies of the "LOTR" trilogy and "The Hobbit" and "The Silmarillion" - that I bought back in 1967. Plus "Leaf By Niggle," "Smith of Wootten Major" - and "Farmer Giles of Ham."
This dude is a low key badass 💯🤘
the LOTR trilogy is what happens when talented people love and know the author's work and commit to realizing the author's vision as best as they can. The new Amazon series, on the other hand...
Some of them have to be fans of his, obviously.
I live about 20 minutes away from Hobbiton. Never been because it's expensive as hell lol
I hate when people call stuff privilege because good things happened to them. You did something that people liked and you had the talent to make it happen.
Loved this, however why was the trilogy referred to as one book. Lord of the rings is 3 books. So when asked what his favorite was shouldn't it have been say return of the king or fellowship,Silmarillion?
This is gold
The Quest is a remake. I remember seeing this show years ago re-run on Netflix I believe.
Beren and Luthien needs to be a movie
Wow he hasn’t aged a DAY since the filming of the Appendices for Lord of the Rings!
He might have a minor ring of power
I think he looks thin... stretched. Like butter scraped over too much bread
Why is this episode not in your podcast feed? :(
I must have forgotten to put it up! Thanks for letting me know. I’ll get it added!
@@NerdoftheRings Thanks! Hope that you can put a process in place so that this should happen less :)
Enjoyed the hobbit and lord of the rings franchise they did a really good job
Where is this Quest?
Like a president of usa, did he age quickly during production?
I still watch appendices at bedtime and the series every Christmas at least. I love y'all!!!
Isn't The Quest the same as a previous show that aired for one season?
Yep! They did one season years ago and are refreshing it and bringing it back from the sounds of it
@@NerdoftheRings Cool! A friend of mine was part of that first season. It was a fun show.
💖❤️
LoL I was listening to this in the toilet and I was totally sure you were talking to Edward Norton lol.
4:51 Pretty sure that use of literally was meant as a joke, but it went straight over Matt's head! 🤭😂😏😝
give the film Willow Creek a try, it's a found footage Bigfoot film
thought lindsey weber was the executive producer
1:56:57
How did he ge into the business? Right place at the right time....and the right friends promoting him over others. 😂 He was a very minor player making films that greatly deviate from the original brilliant story line.
We can all agree that the books were better, right?
A
Says NOTHING about his BUDDY Harvey WEINSTEIN???
The unsung hero of the movies. Peter Jackson has always been a hack, yet he has always been branded as a hero for creating these movies that would be complete trash without guys like these
What is this janky nonsense? Hearing sirens, and kids in the background. Super unprofessional. He makes good content, this being the first interview I've seen him do. But if they're all going to be like this, he needs to soundproof his studio.
Well! Here is a late anser. The sound are not coming from his studio. It is from the one that he is interviewing. As he has not a peoffetionall microfon. And I have seen mutch worse production.
Anything connected to Disney is sure to be woke crap 😂
And It is this kind of stupid comments that makes me whants to go back in time. When people could have more intelligent disscusion about movies even if the where alot of things that was really bad
