I needed this video. I was struggling to figure out which one to run in my newest swap. My last was hp tuners and I am kind of frustrated with the learning curve and nanny features. REP mode sucks!!
Another great video. I have little to no tuning experience and was already leaning towards going with the Holley for my first swap. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience.
Very nice I'm doing a 5.3 turbo build for a Toyota and have the factory computer and complete wire harness and was going to use that but now I'm thinking I'm going to change my mind and go with Holley because after doing all the work on the build I want to enjoy drive the vehicle not always tuning it. Thanks for your videos. Love flowing you
People need to remember HPTuners has been reversed engineered to give users access to the majority of the OEM tables, not all. Ive been using Hptuners since 2000, it takes a LONG time to get experienced with it. Holley is obviously easier given it's made for new users, made to be user friendly and made for the enthusiast. However seeing all the basic questions on the FB page, I believe the misconception is it does it all for you. That isn't true. You need to have basic wire skills, understanding of how an engine works and diagnostics skills. Great video
Well said... Thats why I made sure to specify "You can still mess it up", lol. I did on my first drive when I didn't have target AFR table correct.. If I wouldnt have known what to watch for I would have blown the motor first pull.
Thanks for info new to all of the hp tuners an holly stuff .doing a single turbo in a 87 cutlass got it running but it’s running lean trying to add fuel confused an frustrated wish I had this 3 months ago would’ve brought the holly x an been done
Just ordered the Terminator X Max with the DBW. Downloaded the V3 software to play with. Always a learning curve, but definitely has more capability then HPTuners. HPTuners is still the best for a car that came with an ECU, and you want everything to work.
Great video Sir. HP Tuners is definitely complicated and pricey but so far it's been working on my Turbo Sierra. I will however use the Holley Terminator X on my next turbo build. Thank you for the breakdown of everything.
I think HP tuners is a piggyback system with the stock ecu in mind. Think mild street car build. Holley is for the plug and play market. It's going to do what you need it to and it works without much hassle.
I own a Terminator x and an Mpvi-2 for swaps at the time of the comment well over a year ago. Ryan Martin is sponsored by HP tuners. I doubt the fireball has an HP Tuners ecu because I'm pretty sure, they run fuel tech or any other standalone it's about inputs and A terminator x and HP tuners are mostly for budget minded racers.
The only issue I have come across is on my warm up before it hits a 120゚ it has this shoot to lean condition and when I add fuel through that segment It pulls the fuel back out in does it anyways. After it hits 120 and above 0 issues can't wrap my flocking head around it. Your 10 second truck run is in that Box do it!
Sounds like (for the price) if you already have a running car with HPTuners, it may not be worth it to switch...but if you're just starting out with a new setup, The Holley sounds like a better deal. Also, they named their system after a Public Enemy lyric. haha. Finally, @budlight needs to sponsor Ryan. Look at that unsolicited product placement! lol
Hey buddy, thanks for the video. It confirmed what I was thinking, stick with Holley. I have the HP EFI on my 48 but was looking for a cheaper alternative for my 64.
I'm getting ready to install Terminator X. Why did you need 43psi fuel injection? Isn't GM 58psi? I already have a 255 fuel pump and will be using SEP 1000cc injectors.
I had hptuner on 2 cars. on my turbo car wasted tons of time and credits. Switched on the turbo truck to holley. So much easier. Now I switch the car to a 80e and needed a pcm to run it. Bricked the pcm. F it..... waiting for Holley to fill my order for the car unfortunately on back order for a few weeks. I enjoy the video
@@fuzzymoto896 I like it a lot, not a lot of complaints. I have a video on my RUclips page driving the car around. Nothing crazy couple half throttle pulls.
Great explanations.... l would like to know about the static timing settings on the terminator x ..... I thought setting idle timing is the same. I went into spark ignition tune section. More settings are available. The static timing was set at 0. Should I be raising the static timing to the idle timing setting? Let me now what you think Thanks.
You can get different versions for the correct Injectors. Ev1 USCAR Delphi etc. The injector harness is removable also, so you can change it or switch. I have traded people before when switching(or ordered wrong kind)
I'm so burned out on videos, but I guess it never ends, This was a good one, I'm sure I'll be watching more you couldn't get any more (new guy) than me, Was already thinking of Terminator X Max was the route to go, hearing it from someone with your experience is like finding a $100 bucks in front of the strip club, Now I just need $ 1,230 for the Holly and something that takes glitter off
If I got the terminator x max ls1 24x (550-919) am I restricted ls1 motors or am I able to go any 5.3 4.8 6.0 with the system ? Got it for a steal on market place lol thanks in advance haven’t gotten a clear answer
You can run 24 or 58x motors. The differences are in the harness, and pinning on the cam sensor. The 58x cam sensor harness is longer to reach the front of motor, and the outside pins are swapped. Some people will buy the 58x harness set up, then tuck the extra wire back and swap the pins to run 24x... Then if you want to switch to 58x later you just have to un-tuck the harness instead of cutting and extending wires.
@@juicebox853 No, it's just a drop down menu change for the set up. The wcu itself is set up for sever different engine and trans combinations. Ford etc. The real main difference is the harness. If you get a 58x harness, you can just repin and pull the wires back into the loom and run the 24x by changing setting.
You can use any plug in-one you want that will fit in your intake or just run a vacuum line to the terminator ecu itself as it has a 1bar built in with a vacuum port sticking out the back of the ecu.
I kick myself in the ass I got the fitech ultimate ls only cause terminator x wasn't out yet.....knock on wood my fitech has served me well and does just about every thing the holley can, plus I can just buy the transmission harness and add it in at a later date......fitech does what I need it to but man I've seen some other people's fitech horror stories and I think to myself how I dodged that bullet!!!!

Its kind of like an old small block chevy. Ill always love and respect it but its s dinosaur compared to today's engines.
Well I will say this. I've learned a lot over the last 6 years that I've been tuning with HP Tuners. And I make good side money tuning other vehicles with it. Holley can't run the dash, AC, etc. I might switch up later down the road but for now, HPTuners and factory ECM it is. My Camaro is a 91 model so I could run the Holley setup on it but I'm too invested with the factory style ECM setup.

adding transbrake ,different turbos but the Holley get the credit for making it going faster?
What about microsquirt?
Great option steep Learning curve. Not the plug and play you get with Holley.
Going Dominator

I think HPTuners is cheaper now with their new pricing and MPVI2. They each have their place for sure. I’d love to get an X Max for my race car.

on the fuel table on close loop work very well with e85? also will it correct for the % of e85?
Yeah it was correcting almost 30% because of the ethanol content.

Whats the situation with the 4x to 1x cam sensor, if you run a 24x/1x with 58x Terminator? Do you have to change cam gears?

@@BlaserBuilds Thanks for the info. I have an LS2, so it is kind of an odd deal. 24X, but I think the cam sensor is in the front cover.
So you getting an xmax for the truck?
Oops, answered that at the end. 👍
FYI Just buy the can splitter and usb cord. That way you can plug in your laptop on your hood whenever you want.
3 years later I still prefer to use the SD card, lol. I have used the cable, but my go-to is the SD.
So you're running e85 with the holley? If so do you have to have a flex fuel sensor? Or does the holley compensate for that?
No flex sensor yet. Started and it began to compensate 26-29% so I multiplied the whole VE table by 29% and it was within 5% for the first drive.
Will the terminator bolt right into my factory harness on 02 Sierra
Harness no, but will plug right up to the engine and trans and run it.
Thanks
Holley for me
What map sensor are using to plug in to terminator x
You can use any plug in-one you want that will fit in your intake or just run a vacuum line to the terminator ecu itself as it has a 1bar built in with a vacuum port sticking out the back of the ecu.
