Quality content. Patterning is so important. I think a big reason why people poo-poo shotguns is because they don't want to put in the work to find out what they can and can't do. Once I found some decent #4 and 00 patterns I became a lot more excited about the shotgun.
Thanks for an excellent video. I like a shotgun for home defense although it does require skill and preparation. I like a three finger to hand size pattern at up to fifteen yards. For me, patterns beyond eight inches are more likely to result in collateral damage and failed threat stops. I use modified chokes and Van Comp barrels with # 00 Buck Shot. For the Cylinder Bore barrels, I use the Federal Flite Controlled 9 pellet Buck Shot. There is a Shotgun on each floor of the house.
Force X2 by Federal is good. 9 00 (.33 caliber) buckshot pellets that break into two pieces on impact. 18 wound channels instead of 9. More transfer of energy and much less chance of overpenetration.
Great video. I personally don't like Flite Control for home defense. Shoots too tight for my taste. Excellent for hunting,up camping, or at the cabin. I think of home defense as being inside the house. If the fight were to carry outside, then I could change up to the FliteControl ammo. With FliteControl I would get basically a one hole pattern from anywhere inside my house except the basement. I like a 1 inch per yard spread for a defense shotgun inside a tight space. The military even had a duckbill device the went on the end of a shotgun to increase the pattern spread in confined quarters. In my testing I shot different ammo at the same distances that I would be shooting in a home defense situation. Federal FC was just too tight for that close.
Nice video. Everyone’s home is different, materials, how close is your neighbors house etc. so make note of what’s beyond your target in case you miss. I’ve got the same 21 foot shot in my house but my neighbors are close so I use Federal 4shot heavy game loads and slugs after that on the sidesaddle. Stay safe
Rather than using mini-shells, I went with a magazine extension on my Mossy 835. Thinking about making some duplexed loads. Or just waiting to buy some "off season" goose loads.
Shotgun is my choice as well for home defense. And if I had your SBS it be my choice for primary weapon. But semi automatic if could get a good reasonable price one.
Interesting vid! Which Federal Flight Control 00 Buck were you using, the Premium Personal Defense or the Premium Vital-Shok? Also, have you ever tried the Hornady Critical Defense 00 buck with the Versalite wad and compared it to the Federal?
I like the slugs they don't go through but 6 inch to 10 inch what I've been doing in gel testing like them mini slug. If I'm going to use salf defense. for Bear protection and home too the ranch. If I'm going with buck #1 and shot #4 turkey 🦃 round for 15 yard's. Great stuff for home. But I never needed a 🔫 loaded in my home. There is enough time to load up in my case I have steel bar's on my home, ranch house and shop don't trust anyone now the law doesn't Kerr about the public this day's I will protect myself and family the law doesn't want you to protect yourself not in my world.
If you are planning on defending your family with a firearm you may be very disappointed when you forget in a rush that your guns are unloaded. It is bad enough to have to take off a safety. Unless you have small children in your house your duty gun will perform much better if it is loaded. Having an unloaded duty gun is like having a vehicle without fuel. But in the end it is your family and your house and your guns. I applaud you for having firearms and ammo. In the end it is your decision and I wish you and yours the best of luck!
its always too goofy to hear people talking about no using slugs and using flite control.... ..... ... my brain says its the same thing ...... slugs are cheaper ......

Good job! Great, relevant, no-nonsense content!

Great video, very informative!
I use the federal flight control for hogs here in texas - it just works

so then what do you recommend because I feel the same way
I have always wondered about using breaching rounds as home defense, to prevent overpenetration and/or collateral damage.
Great video bro

I think the mini shells only real selling point is an increased capacity for SBS. A full sized weapon for sure a mag extension with 2.75 shell
Shotgun is my choice as well for home defense. And if I had your SBS it be my choice for primary weapon. But semi automatic if could get a good reasonable price one.
I go back and forth between the shotgun and my 300blackout (8.5” barrel). But there is just something special about having a shotty around.

Any opinions re"' mossberg shockwave 12 ga, or 20 ga.
Thanks good amo. Info 👍
What bran of flashlight are you using?
Thank you good video I shoot the law enforcement federal 00 love those rounds at 7yards they work like a slug and you all know the rest
I want the best chance of a one shot stop and I know how to aim my shotgun. I like 00 buck but prefer slugs!
Believe in Jesus Christ and ask him for eternal life
Awesome video 👍👍 Federal Brand ammo is all I use but I can't find any,, Any Tips anyone??
Buy it directly from the Federal website.
Shorties work great in a ksg12
Just call it the ksg everyone knows what that is
It would not be less dead with the neater load .
Aguila is Spanish for eagle. It's pronounced ah-gē-la .

Are you seriously recommending birdshot?
Why not
its always too goofy to hear people talking about no using slugs and using flite control.... ..... ... my brain says its the same thing ...... slugs are cheaper ......
They're basically the same at 10yards or less as far as aiming/ pattern but a slug will penetrate further. Not needed for home defense.
