    Maker: So how many strings you want on it
    David: Yes.

      Could be worse: could be an 11-course French Baroque lute with 9 doublings. You know, for those whose purpose in life is to tune their strings.

    Wow, very nice! Imagine coming up with that melody and playing that to the masses all those hundreds of years ago.

    •  7 лет назад +1

      +Jaggedwater To be frank, I miss those initial and intimate moments with my lute, fighting against the strings and struggling for keeping them tuned... Every single touch was worth the effort. And the smell of the woods! Lute is different.

    Your work is incredible! You should try covering some 80's music . . . would be hard to transcribe the electronic feel, but end result would probably be amazing!

      @si james or you could take a long time and try to "read hands" haha) it would be very helpful to understand music theory and how music works, so you could transcribe and learn music by ear

    Love the Beatles and love the lute. Is this guitar tuning?

    •  7 лет назад +1

      +Pawel Brzosko Close to it but different. You'd have to tune down the third string to Fa# and put a capo on the third fret. Along with this change, you'd need to extra bass strings, the seventh equal to the fourth but an octave lower and the eighth equal to the second but two octaves lower.

    Where did you get your lute?

  • @CrazyPangolinLady
    @CrazyPangolinLady 6 лет назад

    Idk how lutes work. There are 7 notes on a scale. What’s the extra string for?

    •  6 лет назад

      Imagine a classical guitar with a capo on the third fret and lowering the third string from G to F#: this is basically the tuning for Renaissance lute. You have only to add two extra basses (F and D) and you got it. Thanks!

  • @themusiccovenant
    @themusiccovenant 7 лет назад +1

    amazing. what is the tuning of the 8 course lute? is it like guitar?

    •  7 лет назад +4

      +Deepak John Cletus Menezes Hi, my friend! Thanks for your comments. The Renaissance lute is tuned like a guitar... but after turning down its third string from G to F# and putting a capo on the third fret, extra basses apart (mine has two extra bourdons, but they're no strictly necessary). Once you make this little adjustment you could play most of the original Renaissance repertoire, but what you propose about retuning a lute in a guitar's way, though it's technically possible, I don't find recommendable, because it would break the natural balance of tensions characterizing the authentic lute's tuning.
