    Serves 4
    Ingredients:
    1 cup brown rice
    2 cups water
    Method:
    Put rice and water into a small pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover pot and simmer until liquid is completely absorbed and rice is just tender, about 40 minutes. No peeking until then; valuable steam escapes! Set covered pot aside off of the heat for 10 minutes then uncover and fluff rice with a fork.

    1 cup of brown rice to 2 cups of water. Put both in pot. Bring to a boil. When it comes to a boil, reduce the heat, put on a lid and let it sit on low heat for 40 mins. Saved you 2 mins.

    Let your brown rice sit in a bowl of water for about 15 to 20 minutes.
    While your brown rice is in a bowl of water...
    Have another pot full of water...if you have 1 cup of rice, make sure you always have 3 cups more in the pot.
    Next, you want to bring the pot of water to a boil...
    Then you drain your brown rice from the bowl and put the brown rice inside the boiling water and put a lid on your pot aka cover it up while it's boiling.
    Next, let the brown rice cook in the boiling water for about 30 minutes on medium high heat.
    Afterwards, drain the water from your brown rice, turn off the heat, put the rice back into the pot and let your brown rice sit in the hot pot for another 10 minutes.
    Hopefully this helps.

    No fail method no matter the type/quantity..after your washed rice is in the pot, add any amount of liquid (I'd start with 2 cups), the stick your clean index finger in the middle of the pot until the tip touches the bottom..take out and if the liquid was up to the 2nd notch joint of your finger, perfect rice..if not, add or pour off. NEVER failed me yet. Ever.

    I'm confused. I seen other videos that waits for the water to boil then adds the brown rice into the boiling water. After adding the brown rice wait for the water to come to a boil again and continue for 20 minutes with the lid on. After twenty minutes it is ready. This video instructs to do something completely different...

    • @j134679
      @j134679 6 лет назад

      probably. Long grain cooks quite differently and needs more water. After it boils, leave it at the lowest setting possible.

    • @4jp
      @4jp 4 года назад

      Just bake it. It is much easier and always turns out right. Same ratio of rice to water as here. Cook at 350F/175C for 60 minutes in covered oven safe container (if your container does not have a cover, tightly cover with aluminum foil). Some people, like Alton Brown, advise boiling water first before adding it, but I never bother with that.

    I did 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water just like you say, and i followed your instructions perfectly and my rice came out hard. I don’t understand, something so simple you couldn’t present properly. I had to add another cup of water in order for the rice to expand and soften to the proper consistency. Unless all rice is different, i don’t know , but it seems it should be 3 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice. You may want to reevaluate your recipe

    No flavor in that crap. As a retire chef please try this . First go to Whole Foods or a health food store and buy a collection of rice , short ,long and most important RED rice! That’s one of the secrets. Don’t buy cheap brown rice !Mix them all up and place them in a container. Sauté 1/2 cp of chopped onions, add a tbs of garlic . Use olive oil 2-3 Tbs. Cook 3-5 minutes. Add one cup of mixed rice and cook for 1 min coating the rice in oil. Add 3 cups of water and some chicken base (Better than Boullion is the best) . Add a bay leaf , pepper and about 4 Tbs of Soy Sause .Bring to a boil and simmer for 45 min. Put a lid on the pot. You might have to add more water and salt . When it’s done add 1 Tbs of Sesame Oil. You’ll never go back again to bad brown rice!

    What about arsenic in the rice???? You didn't wash that rice !!!!

  • @tkarlmann
    @tkarlmann 6 лет назад +23

    You are not doing this properly! Brown rice obtained here in the US retains arsenic from generations-old arsenic use by cotton growers. (Oh, I tried Cambodian rice, and it made me sick!) The PROPER way to cook brown rice is to forget all about the rice-to-water ratio!!! Fisrt: Rinse the brown rice and/or soak it overnight. Second: Throw out the soaking water; Third: Cook the rice in WAAAAAY more water than the old 2:1 ratio -- you could use 6:1, 8:1, etc. Fourth: After the 40 minutes, turn heat off and throw the water OUT. You get cooked rice, and you have reduced the Arsenic levels as well as you can. That 2:1 ratio is for white rice, and bears no place in cooking brown rice.
