      Awesome! I appreciate it. Yeah, I’m all about if it’s a good guitar then who cares what it says on the headstock. This strat is still in my collection. I modded it within the inch of its life but that was just more of a personal challenge to see just how great I could make it and not because it really needed it.

    Curious what model year of the Bullet that Fender stopped using Rosewood? I purchased one just like yours in 2016 and I believe it was advertised as Rosewood.

    • @VenancioPortalatin
      @VenancioPortalatin  3 года назад +1

      The Cites regulations that restricted the use of rosewood began effecting guitars in 2017. I believe mine is a 2017 which explains the use of indian laurel on the fretboard. The regulation has since been lifted for guitar companies and they're starting to transition back to rosewood on a lot of model but leaving alternate options for the less expensive stuff.

    I have the EXACT same guitar (love that sea foam green!!). Most of the Squire Bullet Strat reviews that I see tend to rip on them simply for being the entry level and how they don't have items that are on higher price point guitars. They seem to miss that this IS an entry level guitar and won't have those upgrades. So thank you for doing a (from my perspective) genuinely balanced review on this product. NEW SUB here!!

    I have a question man. On the guitar center page it doesn't show that the Squier Bullet you have has a tremolo did you modify it or did it come like that because I'm trying to get one but I'm doubtful if it comes with it or not.

    • @VenancioPortalatin

    Hey there Venancio. A few comments on Squires. I've owned loads of guitars. Fenders;Gibbys and other brands dating from 53 to present days. All of them needed some sort of maintenance from time to time. I'm a tinkerer and do all of my setups. The trick with the neck shim is spot on. Fender actually had a stock tilt mech built in on late 70s strats but not reliable. EC/SRV were constantly messing about with their axes. Rory Gallagher beat the dog out his strat. Never changed a thing but strings. My old 60s strats were really clunky compared to today's rigs. The 3 position selector was limited. The old trick was to jam a matchbook cover in the switch to get the different sound. The tuners were junk. The front pickup was noisy. The newer ceramics actually are much less microphonic. Fender would have done a better job back then if strats were engineered as they are today.
    Now--on to the Infinty strats. Owned 3 of them. Hate the big head stock. The pickups just could not help but dissipate when it comes to a hard grinding solo. I had to files the fret ends on
    all of them On those points alone, I'm not sold on that overpriced marquee. The price point has gone way up. But prawn shops won't give you anymore than a Squier.
    My fave axe was a 58 black beauty. Ebony fretboard. Heavier than shite. But it played like a dream.
    Interesting bit about Laurel vs. rosewood. I did notice streaks on your squire. If it fingers well then it's not a bother. Also, plastic nuts bear better than bone. Bone wears down wicked quick. Jeff Beck used to grind down pencil lead to dust the nut slots. No need for spray.
    Also like the satin finish neck. Much easier than the gloss for playing that would immediately get sanded off.
    Way back when, my buddy had a Squire II. I shoulda bought it off him.
    So. I bought the last seam foam squire yesterday with a fender 20 amp from GC. Nobody else had them. And the price was slashed 20 bucks. I'll let you know after it comes in and I have some playing time in.
    Thanks for your video Venancio!

    Hi! You prefer the squier bullet strat over the Jay turser 300?

    • @VenancioPortalatin
      @VenancioPortalatin  2 года назад +1

      I would say they’re on par with each other. The Turser was setup a lot better out of the box but that’s not a deal breaker for me as I always do my own setups even on expensive guitars. Sound and feel wise is almost identical with a slight edge going to the Squier as the pickups sound a tad better but nothing major. Either is a good choice if that’s your budget.

    A pre wired pickguard from dragonfire and fender staggered locking tuners would solve all this guitars problems. Personally, i think the ceramic pickups are fine. I'd just upgrade the tuners. I dig the fact they are smaller than regular strats.

    Man, I wish I had someone to show me the potential this guitar had when I was in 6th grade. My friends always had "better" guitars and my dad had a Gibson LP custom so I never appreciated the Squier for what it was after playing theirs. I just thought cheap guitar=bad. Ended up just setting it in a closet and not really learning how to play guitar. I was 12, I'm 25 now. I finally revived it this year by doing some learning and cleaning out the insides of dust, lubing up the nut slot, polishing up the fret board, changing the strings, setting the string height, setting the intonation on the bridge. All of the things that I didn't know would make or break a guitar. Any guitar that isn't properly setup is going to play and feel bad, no matter the brand or components. This cheap 13 year old Squire guitar + a battery powered Boss Katana mini makes a nice worry-free traveling electric guitar. It doesn't have nice humbuckers or Alnico pickups on it...but these noisy ceramic coils have their own special place in my heart lol
