      Hmm..

    • @dathunderman4
      @dathunderman4 4 года назад +19

      Depends. I’d say the MiM strats are definitely worth the difference, while the American ones aren’t. Most ppl say that the mim fender strats are closer to the American ones than the Squier Strat is close to the MiM Strat. I returned my $200 Yamaha Pacifica today and paid an extra 400 for a player Strat and I can tell you for me it was WELL worth the difference. And the Yamaha pacificas are generally known to be better cheap guitars than Squiers

      I couldn't Agree more !! I got A Cherry Red Squire Strat with Humbucker's in the bridge and neck since I'm a Metal player exclusively so this configuration works for my needs and I am a big Maple Fret Board fan ! Put some HipShot staggered Locking Tuners on it as well as a Kluson Trem Block for sustain Improvement . So with those two under $90 dollars all together upgrades this thing is a Monster from Slayer , Megadeth to Ratt and Dokken it covers it all well I couldn't have made a better choice and with the locking Tuners from HipShot I can dive Bomb like EVH and it stays in tune and I rarely use Tremolo's but have been using it more since it stays in tune !! I would say if your on a Budget do what I did. If you do buy American still recommend putting locking tuners on it for tuning stability . I have 35 years as a working Guitarist multiple bands , some session work and now starting on my own music creations ! Good Luck hope all this info helps sorry for the long read \m/ Rock On !!

      I've only owned Squier CV's & VM's which have been stunning.
      I've never played a legit American or even Mexican Fender. The Squier clearly sounds great next to the Fenders. I want to know how they FEEL. And honestly, if there as close as the sound in feel, I'll never buy a Fender. It's just not worth the extra $$ in my opinion if they just don't feel & play worlds above the Squiers.

    • @kcbc9037
      @kcbc9037 5 лет назад +30

      The difference isn’t mainly I sound of the instrument, most cheap guitars sound good through a great amp like shown here. The difference is about quality of the parts and the amount of time spent in fit and finish as well as how well it will stand up to use on stage night after night. Phillip McKnight has many videos explaining the differences between Squire and Fender.

    • @Sammie_Sorrelly
      @Sammie_Sorrelly 5 лет назад +42

      Cheap guitars are better than they've ever been without a doubt. Maybe not charity shop off-brand stuff for 50 quid, but the Squiers you can get for a hundred, maybe two hundred tend to be genuinely solid enough guitars. That definitely was not always so.

    • @BeatPoet67
      @BeatPoet67 5 лет назад +24

      I have a Squier Tele ClassicVibe and it looks and feels great. It doesn't feel cheap in any way. Let's be real. We all know that the player makes the biggest difference by far. But we're all seduced into thinking "well, American Fender is much better than Mexican Fender is better than Chinese" and that will make all the difference. I'm as guilty of this as anyone. But the differences are so small that they're insignificant to 99% of us.

    • @illuminati10yearsago80
      @illuminati10yearsago80 5 лет назад +8

      Well, the sound isn't the only thing that is different there, you could just put american std electronics to a squier and it'd be damn near identical, but there's a whole lot of other stuff going on in the american ones, like better hardware, fret levelling, rounded fret edges, better woods, nicer neck finish etc.
      This doesn't probably quite justify the price, but I know I could sell my Am std for just as much as what I paid for it (used but mint), so does it matter? It's like money in the bank. This doesn't really apply if you buy a used Squier and upgrade it.

    The fender stays in tune much better, has a softer tone, feels better on your body, you can feel the bass and trebble coming together and the pickups sound better.
    The squier has more bass sounds, doesnt stay in tune as well, the pickups sound less active, the feel is still great and it has less active electronics.

The few Strats that wouldn't hold tune I put on budget Fender style string trees and voila they hold tune now. Cost me about $5-$6 for enough for 5 guitars. " it doesn't matter what it says on the headstock " best advice I ever got. My experience was always fighting the instrument and it wasn't until I was in my thirties I bought a cheap Squier out of curiosity I never had a lot of money for expensive gear but once I plugged that Squire in the feeling for me was why didn't I buy one of these to start with. My whole point is I think they're the best to start on because of the price and their durability / quality versus people giving you dumpster guitars they found LOL. And I did buy an American after my Squire experience and it was the tone I had been chasing my whole life but I can never afford one until I got older. I believe they are the best guitars to start on no matter where you go with your sound because when I help people pick guitars out now I always compare it to a squire is it better or worse and for the money you really can't beat the price of a squire to start out with.

    I've owned a bunch of Fenders and Squiers. One of the best sounding Strats I've run across is a 20th Anniversay Squier Affinity. The thing is amazing. The pickups are extremely 'articulate' - so much detail not only in the notes your hitting but how you are picking/strumming them. Also don't sleep on the old first Squiers from Japan in the early to mid 80's. Those are usually extremely high quality instruments - probably on par with anything else made by Fender at the time (especially look for JV or SQ serial #'s).

    The Squire sounds fine, although it has a slightly harsh top end, but I guess you could sort that on the EQ.
    There is obviously a premium on the US Strats, just because they have the Fender logo and are made in the US. However there is more attention to detail on the build and probably quite a bit more time spent on them in production. This is stuff that can’t be seen or heard necessary but will be felt by the player.
    Bottom line, you can’t get a US Strat for Squire money, so unfortunately if you want the quality of a US Strat you need to cough up.

      In order to upgrade the Squier to match the Fender you'd need to replace the tuners, the whole tremolo system, the electronics and the pickups which are all inferior (cheap metal for the hardware, less robust electronics, cheap ceramic pickups). Next you'd need to dress the frets and roll the fretboard edges. By the time you've done all of that, while it may feel and sound the same you'll have spent pretty much the price of just buying an american. The difference is that you won't be able to sell it for anywhere near what you put into it. Nothing wrong with Squiers but don't fool yourself into thinking they can be upgraded to resemble an American Fender for cheap.

Once you’re actually starting to play shows, then the tuners and pickups absolutely need upgrading on cheap models. Upgrade the tuners and pickups and you’re all set! Get a good set up on it and you’re golden. (Sharp fret edges can be shaved down by your local tech. That occurs with all guitars, cheap or expensive, depending on your climate)

    I learned on a fender squire strat. It does the job and after i got more advanced in my playing, I had to make a few tweaks to it make it playable. I adjusted the bridge to make better string contact for one. Does the job if u wanna play a gig but if ur a more serious guitarist, it's a stepping stone. Invest in a better quality guitar later down the road if you still play seriously later on.

    Many thanks Marty, spot on video . As I have an indonesian made squier standard strat I have also noticed the tinnier & muddier sound on high gain settings. Also, there is a lot of noise generated on the top bridge and top neck configuration (at least in my instrument). However on clean sound configuration the squier is not far from the fender (at least to my liking). I think that a squier standard is a great starting point for beginners (like me) as the instrument looks & feels very much like its american cousin and still sounds pretty close on clean settings (that is where you are expected to practice as a beginner).

    Hey Marty, thanks for the comparison. Personally, I have an American standard Squire and I love it!
    I honestly think that sound is subjective to what each person likes themselves.
    Also we have different frequencies that we each can hear and some can’t hear at all.
    I liken this comparison to an UHD TV.
    Most broadcasts are not super quality so it’s hard to say which one is best, again, it’s subjective.
    Also it depends on how good your eyesight is?😳
    For me the difference in the price of the 2 guitars is vastly different for not much gain.
    I bought a good squire and upgraded lots of parts to better quality ones and better strings too.
    Guitars like tv,s are a personal choice and each to their own I say .👍🏽
    Cheers 🍻
