Great work! I'm happy to hear you are able to perform the maintenance and save some money. I also find that working on your own equipment is rewarding and a fun hobby. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for these videos. I’ve had my bronco almost 4 years. Last mow it was rough to shift between N and F. First time ever a problem. Trying to find answers here on YT. Trying to figure this out myself so thanks for any videos you make on maintaining this mower. I appreciate your posts.
I usually only have a stiff shift after letting my mower sit for the winter, which subsides after I get the mower ready for the season. I hope the issue was easy to resolve. I will make a video on it if it should ever come up on mine! Thank you for watching!
A couple reasons why your video is so helpful. First, you aren't an expert and neither are most people who want to work on their own mower. Experts sometimes assume the viewer is knowledgeable when they are not. Second, someone may be knowledgeable on other equipment and working on a Troy-Bilt for the first time. For example, to change the spark plug do I need to remove the hood? Do I need to remove the engine cover (other brands - the answer is no). Very helpful and informative video. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words and praise! I try to make my reviews and how to videos as relatable as I can for people of all skill levels. I'm glad you were able to find my video helpful. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment it is much appericiated!
Thanks for the video! Recent bought a used Bronco and have been trying to fix it up. I am missing the air filter housing (and air filter all together) and haven't been able to find a part number for the housing/access door. Hoping you may know as a last ditch effort to find a part number for the housing.. thanks!
Would a bad plug cause the motor to not even turn over? It started right up with a new battery, I turned it off to change a deck spindle and it won’t start now. Not sure I put the belt on right but it looks like the diagram
Sounds unlikely but it is possible. I'd suspect it may be the belt tension or routing may be at issue if it is completely dead and receiving fuel, air and spark. Thank you for watching!
@@vickigodown4797 most models handle tension through one or more springs. The springs will pull the deck brackets and place tension on the belt. If the spring is not fully connected, weakened, or a bracket is stuck that could cause the issue of a fire state but no turn. Hello congrats on joining the TB family! I think taking the hood off would be quite a chore to go after the spark plug! If you do not have a extension for a ratchet it might be an option. Thank you for watching!
If the spark plug is bad it would be more likely to cause the engine to not start. The mower not going into forward or reverse would likely be a transmission or brake issue imo. I've had mowers were the brake cable sticks causing the mower to lock into neutral as a safety feature. Usually fixed by applying and releasing brake a few times, lubricating the brake component, and manually releasing. If it is a transmission issue it would likely need a service shop to diagnose and repair. Thank you for watching!
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. This is the second video that I have watched about changing the spark plug on a Troy Bilt and neither one checked the spark plug gap. You always check the gap, even if the plug is new. This is one of the main reasons you remove the plug.
Hello I checked the gap off camera and compared to the Chinese one I got from Amazon. Gap was dead on, this is how I knew the old plug was worn out. The Chinese plug had a gap that was .015 too large.
Indicators from operation of the engine are poor performance, refusal to turn over, engine cutting out, rough idle, poor fuel economy. This can be caused by build up in excess, scorching, cracking, and reduction in the electrode which can be diagnosed by pulling the plug. Thankfully they are only a few bucks and should be changed periodically. My recommendation on lawn equipment is to check every other season and plan to replace on the 3rd to 4th season. Thank you for watching!

Well...new spark plug, new ignition module and new air filter and still wasn't running. Bad ignition coil. Will be running later. Tuned up now anyway😁
Thank you matty ice.
Thanks....mine was looking kinda rough when I pulled it.

How would I adjust the tension? Any ideas? I’m thinking that is it also.

Just bought a new 17 hp troy-bilt
Would it be easier just to take the whole hood off to do the plug?

Can a bad spark plug cause a riding mower not to move forward or backwards?

You were putting the air filter in backwards. The new style of air filter attaches to the tractor itself and seals on the tractor.
Can you send a pic?
Question. Could you show where the spark plug wire goes to mine is missing that. I bought it like that
