The church has the resources you need to begin to fight your anxiety and depression. When you commit to a local church, the members of that church are committing to pray for you and to hold you accountable and the leaders are committing to watch over your soul and to care for you. Pray for the Lord to guide you to find a church that can lift you up and serve you through these issues.

@horiconbaptistchurch Thanks. I live in a very small town with no churches where I fit. I may have found one 30 minutes away. The local Baptist church in my town doesn't want me there because I dont believe in the pre trib rapture. The pastor there actually yelled at me for believing the Devils lies. My views on eschatology are fine in the Baptist church 30 minutes away and another one that's an hour away. I would like to go to a church here close by, but I refuse to go to a church where the pastor lies to his flock so they will believe in his doctrine.

The early church figured out how to this with following its leaders discipline and commitment to the local body without a roll call or "special super secret club" if we cant in modern day Christianity can't figure this out then were in desperate need of a savior and dont even realize it. People If your a true born again believer regenerated by The Holy Spirit your a church member. Thats all their is to it

I am already excepted into the Body by Jesus, why do I need to prove any thing to men! I have made a commitment to God I don't need to, men! I answer to God and him only, it is reasons like these people are leaving churchanity by the 100s

I can't believe that you are saying it may be a sin to not be a church member!!!!! That's insane! You're grasping at straws (as do most) to try to give the impression that scripture implies official church membership (since we can easily see that it doesn't exist anywhere in New Testament writings). I also couldn't help but notice that you presented the positive possibilities of church membership. I wish you had presented the negative side so people could make a more informed decision; scenarios of spiritual abuse and control (depending on what was written into the membership contract), the legal ramifications if you've agreed to support financially and have now changed your mind, the times when people want to get out of their membership agreements and they are set up in such a way that both parties have to agree (and the leadership will not allow you out of your contract). Some women have been refused permission to divorce abusive/unfaithful spouses without submitting to a long drawn out series of events and steps that further traumatize them. People who cross a narcissistic pastor can be "disfellowshipped" as a punishment and their friends/family who still attend will be pressured (directly or indirectly) to shun them. I could go on, but I think as believers we would be wise to stay far away from church membership and those who wish to "rule" over us. Hebrews 13:17 has been taken way out of context! The head of the body is Christ. Nowhere do we submit to pastors except in the way we are admonished to "submit" to one another.

I like the way you approach things, but membership I have to say I disagree. I have been treated as a second class christian because they did not know that I did fill-out a membership application. This went on for almost ten years, until someone (for the n'th time) refused my involvement saying that I was not a member. Before you go and say that I should give it another chance, let me say this: The biblical reasoning for 'mandatory' is absolutely absent from scripture. Preventing someone from serving for the sake of a peace of paper is rendering his baptism null and void.
Members are those that are baptized and attend that church.

I think too often church membership is institutional and about supporting brick & mortar and salaries. The purpose of membership is to keep supporters from going somewhere else and supporting that other institutions brick, mortar and salaries. If I want to support an institution I'll join a Moose Lodge or the VFW. Fellowship is about relationship not about membership.

So it isnt by your actions, (by your fruit) that comes from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that makes you are a member of the wider of local body of the local church. Is it about taking membership classed, agreeing with the constitution, standing up in front of the whole chruch on a sunday and speaking for 3-5min then waiting to see the show of hands as to whether you are accepted by them or not. I cant see it.

Church membership is very wrong. Church membership requires an oath (forbidden by the Bible) that trades your loyalty to the real Body of Christ, and Christ himself who is is the only head, to a commercial building and its CEOs. Our loyalty must transcend a physical building and its occupants. The early church had nothing of the sort and swore fidelity to the Head.

  • @leeebbs722

No. There is no "membership" in the bible. One baptist church I went to wanted every new member to get "re-baptized". NO.... no need for that nonsense. People should focus on the word of God, not this man-made membership nonsense!

    First and foremost
    Very important to

    Read Romans chapter 5 : 1-21 .
Read and praise and pray over genesis 1:1
    To revelation 22:21 .
Get it on cd or something audible . Listen . Speak it out loud . Beware of false
    Teachers . Peddlers . Debaters . Silly women .

Alright ! However, a church will probably not allow you to serve other members with your spiritual gift. Firstly, because church service roles are assigned by job, not by gift. Secondly, because all of the postions that have any influence are already filled by those whose personality pleases the elders. And thirdly, because those who donate the most to the church budget exercise control over doctrine and practice. If you remain seriously committed to serving the Body of Christ, you may have to do so by starting, leading and reproducing home or work-based churches, keeping them small enough for all to participate actively.

Tim, I thought you were great until I see this trash. Aren't we to go out and make disciples? Not dwell in Micah's idolatry???
    Acts 7:48-50
48 “However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:
    49 ‘Heaven is My throne,
    And earth is My footstool.
What house will you build for Me? says the Lord,
Or what is the place of My rest?
50 Has My hand not made all these things?’

    I am a grown man .
Went to church all my life .!
    We use to say -
“If you are looking for a perfect church - just stay away - you will wreck it !”
    But that does not mean
That you should live without responsibility.
The last 10 years or so
Have seen revival of john Calvin / Calvinism baloney and hierarchy abusers.
    Way wrong . Jesus let
People come to him that nobody else wanted to get near .!
We reject them if they pick their nose wrong .
