Endless possibilities with the building. Put an asphalt sheet roof on it, some 4 foot walls and screening so the kids don't fall out, a paint job and you have a luxurious goat milking and recreational center. Put a table and a tv in there and have a picnic on lazy afternoons. You have beautiful children!

I'd like to see somebody come over with a chipper and Chip up that wood and branches and stuff you got sitting around instead of burning it and start mixing chicken manure in there with it and now you have some goats and the goat manure in there and such and start producing your own mulch. Bet starting off by cutting up those tree roots and stuff start collecting leaves in the winter start throwing them in make a caged area and throw him in there you know a nice project starting now till next spring should be going on really good. God bless your family love watching you

I went to pick up some more top soil - I have gone through a lot of it - new to me place - no depth in the growing areas at all - so above ground growing - BUT there is NO top soil to purchase. None. Zip. Zero. What?? So my last (probably) round of planting for this year is on hold.......I have about 20 more tomato plants in starter pots (repurposed food cans and yogurt containers) that I started from seed that are now languishing there. Sigh. My food security plan is now being held hostage by apparent non-essential dirt farmers. God knows how much I will need so I won't worry. LOVE seeing you and your kiddos and Lacie on the homestead. oh, and for the 'pond house' how about a place for helpers to stay - they get to see how to start a homestead, and they help you while they learn, you don't pay them, but they earn their keep by helping around the homestead. you could vet them by referrals from other homesteaders or people you know so the folks who come are 'safe' to be around your family. Eustace Conway has something like this on his property Turtle Island.

I'd be inclined to make it all goat related. That way everything is in one location. Add a lean-to, for the milking station if using the lower section, for accommodation. Store bales up top, by installing a pulley system, to hoist 'em up. Get your workout done, by pulling cables. ;) If it only has a ladder to get up top, I'd build a set of stairs, attached to the outside of the building. More storage ops, underneath the stairs, plus it's easier to access anything stored up top, using the stairs. With a ladder, you need both hands, so can't really carry anything down.
If there's anything I've learned about keeping animals, it's to store all their stuff in one place, in close proximity. Especially if you live on slopes like we do. Because if you forget something, it's another trek down and up hill again! I'm working on building storage onto our chicken coop, so I can keep everything they need there. When first built we dubbed it, Hilltop Chicken Coop. Because it's right on top of a hill. It receives winter sun exposure, so hens lay through the winter. I don't mind the trek up the hill for that!! :)

Mike, try positioning the water trough for the ducks at the lowest spot along the fence line. Then when you dump it to clean it out you aren't making mud in the pen. You can't control the rain, but you can control where you put your water. I've yet to find a root crop that doesn't get better when oven roasted. Yum

I just tried radishes roasted for the first time the other day and they were great!! I thought it tasted like a cross between a potato and a really mild brussels sprout...YUM! I put salt, pepper, onion power, garlic powder, butter, and drizzled honey over them with some carrots. I put them in a parchment paper and aluminum foil pouch and put on the grill for about 20mins, worked great!! So fun to find new ways to eat food I can grow so easily! This is my first year growing radishes too!!
The farm I order from uses those same boxes and I saved mine too! It even says the foam stuff is plant based and biodegradable and dissolves in water, wow!

I love watching your videos! My husband and I started our homestead in the high mountains of Montana over 21 years ago. I still laugh at how much my two very "city" type daughters hated getting pulled out of bed to go get the chicken waterers out to thaw them and fill with clean water when it was waaaaay below zero outside. We had so little money and had to make use of everything possible. We built several of our out buildings with discarded free pallets, we "upcycled" everything you can imagine! Now, the children have babies of their own and they always want to come home to the "real life" as they call this mountain home. They bonded to the animals, the land, to nature and her cycles of life.... your children are gaining SO much knowledge. I commend you and your wife for pushing through all the trials that homesteading life brings. Your life will be immeasurably blessed through the hardwork and sacrifice. I had to laugh because watching your video this morning, I giggled at the most recent husband-created piece of upcycling magic here. We got some baby ducks and no where to put them. LOL! Next thing I knew? Here was this magical "duck run" in the front meadow complete with a locked down safe night bed and nesting boxes. He used an extra pickup truck ladder rack that currently doesnt fit any of our trucks. SO! wrapped up in chicken wire, hinged access panels and all, the ladder rack has become a mobile duck and chicken run! Ha Ha Ha! Once and upcycler, always an upcycler! Best wishes to you and your family in all your adventures. I'll be watching and enjoying the journey!

You both have done a wonderful job raising your children, I think they are adorable in all facets. Mike I think you are also doing a great job with your video’s. Love that you take us along on your journey, but I am realistic in the fact you have a family and homestead to run and videoing slows you down. Thank you for sharing..

Young lady, You have the heart and soul of a homesteader. You boys make a great team. I know your parents are so proud of all three of you.

Things don't look too bad up there, even with all that rain - one of the benefits of those raised rowbeds.Terrific little broiler assembly line transport system the kids had! We had a week of solid rain, but with a couple of clear days that will enable me to process my meat birds tomorrow and get it all broken down again before the rains come back.

Dump all standing water or mosquitoes will breed in it. Your kids are growing up so fast, love how your daughter is in bare feet and the boys in gumboots. A place for kids would be awesome and very special for them. Their reward for helping you both out on your homestead.

My peppers and tomatoes are very happy in this lovely 104-110 degree dry heat in AZ. My squash is not thriving, but I think that’s due to nutrients. My watermelon is loving the weather, and my potatoes are thriving. I still have to put in sweet potatoes and cucumbers.

Maybe use the building for a playhouse for the kiddos ❤ something of their own to keep up and decorate and do some of their sit down chores there? Just a thought 🙂

The milking station in the little house sounds great. Doesn't look like it will take much, but it needs to be water tight sides and roof. Waterproof and then Milking and finally children's play house above. Go for it! As far as the boat full of water, it seems a shame dump it out. Maybe put it in containers to water plants?

I love the tours where we can see the garden growing and the animals flourishing. I can't stop smiling watching your children tending to the animals! I'm going to try the radishes too Lacie.

Definitely the kids need a fort with a view. :) Goat milking would be nice underneath you could button it up to keep the goats warm in winter too. :)

love the intensity of Josiah as a caretaker and Micah following right along...wonder how Noah felt..we only deal with days..yes the sun is a welcoming sight, but all that rain might just helped those roots more than we know..cooked radishes..wow..you guys come up with some interesting things..your children are true treasures..balance is right ..all things working together..love the milking station idea with top floor for kids..love this video.

It has rained a lot in Missouri too. A place to milk the goat would be a good idea a place to keep any supplies needed and the goat will get used to a routine.
