Your son's sweet little plea: "Please don't kill it, Daddy."
I’m still laughing at you slapping the tiller....too funny! Loved seeing the little duckling! Blessings guys🙏🏻💖
You're a good dad Mike. I am a grandpa now to 4 girls, and I am learning it's important "how" you say something. Your tone of voice, even body language sends a signal. Your kids will grow up with a great work ethic, something sorely missing in young people now. Weeds are certainly a pain, part of every garden. God bless you Mike.
Excited to see your children growing up outside with responsibilities and being able to just be children learning good values..
Hi...... Mike Dickson, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Please and thank you really are the magic words. I'm working on listening, really listening even when I'm not totally interested in what's being said to me. We can't expect our children to communicate well if we aren't willing to hear what they have to say.
Living Traditions Homestead uses that landscape fabric in all of their gardens. They overlap it slightly and there are no weeds at all. He uses a propane torch to make holes in it for planting.
More importantly for Mike's sake, the propane torch is used to cut the landscape fabric so there are no fraying ends. This does two jobs at the same time - saving you time in your busy day.
I tried this. Field bind weeds are coming through the holes. That stuff is impossible to get rid of
As a parent and wife, I am working on gentle words with my spouse and the children
I love the difference it makes.
Problems 15:11 words fitly spoken are like apples of gold in pictures of silver
My son informed that parents who ask are sort of lying because we say "please" instead of "now", when we really mean... "Now."
He makes my head hurt! Lol! Gotta love our kids!
Yea I really don’t know about the asking a young child thing. The kids now a days have no respect
@@kimmurphy6864 Kids are taught to respect. When I have a child show that to me or in front of me I immediately tell the parent they did a great job and compliment them and the child right then and there. They always blush and say thank you for saying so. We need to be the change we want to see. So some kids today show little respect and they are reflecting what they were taught or allowed to get away with. Teach them young! 😁👍🌱
@@cpnotill9264 i teach kids to ride horses. As I finish with one child they get a prize from my special box if they had "Listening ears on", the next child see's this and hears me so they also pay close attention so they get a prize. By the time they have been there a year I have the full attention without any bribes and they are all super respectful of me since I can deny them the prize or in worst case the pony ride. I get 1 kid a year who doesn't want to be good which is their choice but they have to go home with no pony play.
being a leader also causes us to expect someone to grasp the whole concept when we speak..be glad that you are still young enough to communicate your intentions with that new gained focus..your humility will go far for you and your family..I know we are all still learning..I'm almost 77 years old and..well you know..thank God for His patience.
Wow, Diane. It's nice to make your acquaintance.

Good JOB😊
Mike, put your goats in that brush. They will have it knocked down in no time.
keli Surfs and Their Garden
Agree. tie goat where you want grass weeds cleaned up and use chicken in smaller tractors to do the finishing job.
Bare soil is no good. Tilling kills all the soil life, allows for nutrients to wash away and it doesn't hold as much water.
Oh no, just throw that tiller away! Get rid of it
LOL, Love seeing Mike pull that cord on that machine. I know exactly how he felt. The more pulling, the harder I laughed. He's definitely getting a work out in for his arms.
I love that you are "fit". When I think of homesteading, I think of a healthy lifestyle. 👍☺
Miss Selah is right on the money about startled vs scared. She's a clever, confident girl. Thanks for a fun, snake=charming time. 🤩
Mike and Laci are doing a good job raising their most important crop. Their kids.
@@JerryB507 right on! 💯 🎯
I was going to say the same thing about Selah!
That baby duckling is sooooo sweet!
Mike, my husband does small engine repair. He was yelling at the tv at what to do. Press the throttle and pull. If you have an equipment problem, you can ask us. Just message us.
You are a loving beautiful Family. God Bless You All.
I live in the city. I grow my strawberries in one of those round plastic kiddie pools. I grow them for my daughter. So she can go outside and just eat.
I like that idea! Definitely gonna keep that in mind for when we try to grow some next year
That baby girl is going to be a heartbreaker. She is beautiful and has an outgoing attitude.
Yup, It's a good thing she has a father who will be vetting those men that come a knocking.
Hi Mike, as a cyclists your dream sleaves already exist. Voler Cycling Aparrel ( www.voler.com ) makes sleeves Called Sol Skins. They are breathable, offers UV protections and are American made. Voler is a company based in California. Their Sol Skins were originally made in white but now comes in other colors. They can be simply hand washed in warm soapy water, rinse and hung to dry in a few hours. Although the were designs for cyclists riding under the summer skies, I see no reason why they can't be used while working in the garden. :)
They catch on thorns....sadly and are not tickproof we just discovered...
It was nice to see the duckling. Have a wonderful day y'all.
I must tell you, your kids impress me. So sweet and you can see how much they love and respect you and Lacy. What great help the will be as they get bigger and can take on more chores. They sure do look HEALTHY too. You kids are exceptional and they are gorgeous to boot. Great parenting shows.... And I am old enough that I am not easily impressed. What a wonderful family, love watching you guys.
I grew really tired of giving money to a repair guy to fix my tiller every year. I took a small engines course at our local vo tech. I paid $115 for the course and managed to fix every piece of gas powered small equipment we own. Even after buying the basic tools, we came out ahead over paying Buster to repair and time our equipment.
Your place looks better every season. Good job!
That sleeve idea sounds great. I bought some of those at Halloween that had tattoo patterns on them. You could put the fit farmer logo on them. That is a great idea I'd be interested in getting from you. I get tired of putting sunblock on.
I’m working on being more patient with people. I think I’m doing better most of the time but I still have my unfortunate moments. I always regret those times.
Your Selah is funny and smart, had to correct Dad about being surprised, not scared!!! She is quite a delight!!! Great parenting you guys.
I Love strawberries. Could eat them all day. Love the family and the relationships ❤️ you all have. Going to write Lacey and ask her about herbs. Thanks for expanding this old lady's mind.
Really working so hard to have the life you have. Your well mannered hardworking, respectable kids. Your awesome strong marriage. Your drive and preservance. Your land and lifestyle. Such a motivation to watch these. Good job and almost to 60k subs man congrats!! Not surprised by any means lol
We do have great kids BUT they are still kids with their own attitudes. Thanks so much for watching!
Your farm looks so much improved since last year! All your hard work makes a huge difference! Your children are beautiful and so helpful!Good luck on your progress!🍀🙏🙏
Was a rat snake they can be cantankerous. But that was definitely a rat snake. They will eat eggs and baby chicks and other small mammals and insects. They will also get up in the tree and get birds out of nests. They can be useful but they can also be a nuisance. I have chickens and when I see a rat snake I chased him off if he comes back I knock him off! LOL your wife Laci went to school with my nieces Angel and Alicia Hartzell. My sister was over the other day and we were watching the homestead videos and she saw Lacey and she said I know her! I said yeah that's lazy they live in a yurt in Mount Pleasant land that likes his father had. She said that she was excited to see Lacy all grown up! Keep up the good work you're doing such a good job. The whole family! I love the way you involve the children in learning how to grow food and how to be sustainable.
I enjoy following your family, the way your children are involved in the farming. I grew up in the garden as a child myself , it makes me love it and that I admire . You eat what you grow , good job well done.
Thank you kids too when you ask. It teaches them to do it ask they grow.
I didn't really like strawberries since I was a kid, they just didn't taste like I remembered...THEN, I grew my own! =) UGH! I feel your weed pain....the more I grow things, the less I want any grass! one of my neighbors was admiring my garden and asking me questions about things growing in it, and then she gave me such a nice compliment! she said, I could tell you are a gardener, because your grass is not pretty! LOLOLOL....anyway, I took it as a compliment! =)
AHA. I haven't liked them and had the same, "not like when I was a kid" feel to them. So when I was a kid, my grandmother used to take me to this field in the country where you pick strawberries then I think they weighed them and charged you or maybe they charged by the container. That was over 30 years ago now. I don't remember exactly.
Your store brought strawberries are not the same as fresh out of the garden ones. Freshly picked one's have a sweeter taste than store bought since the strawberries sit for days in the stores loosing their flavor
Always nice to find new babies on the farm
That stuff is the best stuff ever invented for weed control. I am so happy for you...and your garden.
Love love love strawberries 🍓!
LOVE strawberries🍓🍓🍓
Snake day !! I loved the baby duck by the pond. So cool. HOpe more of those eggs hatch. Saleh is so pretty. Such a good helper too.
Mike - Great job cleaning out the weeds and shrubs growing up around the pond shore. A good tip to move snakes safely is to pin their head with a stick and grab them just behind the stick. That way they can't turn and strike at you. The only thing they can do after that is poop on you. Not pleasant but it doesn't hurt just smells. I hope your surprise duckling does well. Always wonderful to see your family happily working together.
Selah is such a sweet spirit, actually, all your children are sweethearts. They are so gentle and loving. Yes, I am sure they have their moments but for the most part they are loving and kind. Just like you and Lacey. Lovely family.
I am trying to love people more. Show love even to those you might think wouldn't deserve it. I struggle with that part. Also I am trying to forgive more.
You are quite funny what a great family, love how they all are so happy to help.
Love strawberries! Need to work on keeping up on our house! Cute duckling!
A yurt family, I love it!
Cute little duckling
When we were on the farm, what we did was to put our goats in there on a short lead with a stake in the ground. They mowed those areas down quick smart.
You have a few goats you could utilize them more, they love mowing down grass like that.
Qué familia tan guapa. Saludos desde España 🤗
Congrats on the new duckling 🐥. My old boy passed away, he was the last of my ducks... have fun and be careful...
Wow that snake was too NOG for me you guys are brave. Cute little duckling
You have a beautiful daughter, really nice family. Lucky man.🙂🙂🙂🌟
I am trying to slow down and put myself in my 4 yr olds place and how he must feel in certain circumstances and go from there, they want the simplest things and I think we adults forget that, I know I do, so thats what I am working on, making them happy takes so little 💜
Ducklings, and weeds, and snakes, oh my‼️😮
what a cool surprise for the family and duck family surprise :)
You have a great life so blessed
Thank you for taking care of the snakes. Most people don't like them, but they are necessary. They always scare me, but I've never been hurt by one. I hate to see anything, even snakes get hurt.
Everything is looking great! Hard work is great for the soul! Blessing to y'all!
I love strawberries... I also love to treat myself with dark chocolate covered strawberries 😋
Awwww so cute they feel safe there
How sweet and kind, “ Please don’t kill it daddy.”
Beautiful king snake. Huge and healthy. I had 2 brought in long years ago because we had copperheads EVERYWHERE! Kings wiped them out. Every once in a while I see one of the descendants, but no more copperheads! I'm good with that.
Everything looks so healthy there. You 2 are great parents but it is good to know you realize there is always room for improvements. My children have always been dogs. No kids but I love watching yours. They are so well mannered.
I jumped when you faked the snake under the tarp.
Love strawberry’s. You guys are sure bust. Love your kids. I have a small raised garden and 42 hens. Lots of eggs. ❤️🇨🇦
That big snake was quite nice I love the tree snake colour. Thankyou for sharing.
Oh Snap! You had a lot of surprises today! Blessings
I am working on letting things go when I've been wronged instead of being all up in my feelings because keeping bad feelings only hurts myself.
I'm like you Mike if something don't work I beat on it to 😂😂. Love you guys 🥰💐🌷
I love warm, ripe strawberries straight from the vine to my mouth.
Hi Lacey good to see you
Clever about the fabric edges 👌
Lovely surprise
I’m with you on the battery powered tools!! Love them!!!
I like your advice,. Don't be the commander, be the demonstrator
Mike, that tiller was just trying to help you get a workout in! lol
😆😆😆
I really like the terraces you have for your gardens. It looks so well managed. You and your family are really good at stewardship of your land. I love your pond. That is great that your ducks can have that but also have a safe place to go to at night.
Love strawberries yummy..
Lol .. I used to ask my kids after a while they didn't what to help anymore, so I still ask but when they say no I say to bad you are helping 😆 the older the lazier it seems..
Awesome little find there🦆
Have a good evening 🌻🌻🌻
Thanks for being real!!! Weeds are a big pain and can take over before you know it!!!
I'm trying to improve my thought habit making them positive and turning them toward God!!!
We LOVE strawberries. We also are growing pineberries, and they are so lovely. They have taken over our hanging strawberry planter.
Suprises make for a good productive day, most the time! haha
The black snake is that a water snake? The weeding around the pond looks nice , little duckling is cute. love gardening planting and harvesting fresh veggies. The definition of scared and startled your daughter gave was cute.
All of our property is on a slope. We love to watch videos about how you are handling this problem.
U can get those sleeves, at bicycling shops/sites. All that u need, light, breathable, sun protectors.
You guys rock!! Thank you!
Sometimes I answer too quickly, not giving the other person time to think.
Love strawberries 🍓
Duckling cute ... snake O my!! Sometimes I think I should leave Minnesota and the frigid cold then I see things like that and I'm like no I would much rather have the cold and snow than snakes!!!
My dog Judah was sleeping and heard babies and was looking for them🦆🦆🦆🦆
I plan to cover everything in our tiny garden in the same way. That woven weed fabric is great stuff.
I love strawberries!
I like your garden
We use a torch to cut the fabric now. Works fantastic. it has made it last a lot longer on the edges.
My husband has some performance fabric sleeves that he got when he was cycling all the time. They are amazing and I steal them all the time when I know I’m gonna be in the garden for long periods of time.
Hi beautiful family just would like to help with the the weeds problem with I use vinegar bottle I use dawn dish soap mix half them in your spray bottle it is the best in sun time. Every month keep up on weeds good luck🤩
I like strawberries, too. Actually, all berries. You wanted us to tell you what challenges we work on. Mine is time management on my homestead & talking with a softer, kinder voice. Thank you Dickson family. I watch your vlogs all the time & feel like I know you personally. Michelle
Thanks for watching!
We all have areas that end up getting full of weeds!
Working on my patience!
GOD bless
Keep the good stuff coming thanks
I jumped just like Selah. She is a smart, independent girl. Just like her mom and dad. By any chance you have wish lists for the kids? I know you have something on amazon but didnt see anything for the children or Lacie. Peace and love to you and the family. 💜💜
I struggle to clearly communicate without being pushy. You and your family are such a joy to watch, those kids are learning things most would never have the joy to . Can you use the goats for the deweeding job?
Love strawberries
I never saw a black snake with a white belly, although it really was pretty!
I loved your attempt to do CPR on the tiller. That was too cute!
Love strawberries
You all are Amazing people good job God bless you
Mike I remember when I was a kid we planted on a hill had the best watermelons and cantaloupes. Excellent video.
Winter squash like acorn and butternut and hubbard do well envelopes like that too..
