    You're a good dad Mike. I am a grandpa now to 4 girls, and I am learning it's important "how" you say something. Your tone of voice, even body language sends a signal. Your kids will grow up with a great work ethic, something sorely missing in young people now. Weeds are certainly a pain, part of every garden. God bless you Mike.

    Please and thank you really are the magic words. I'm working on listening, really listening even when I'm not totally interested in what's being said to me. We can't expect our children to communicate well if we aren't willing to hear what they have to say.

    Living Traditions Homestead uses that landscape fabric in all of their gardens. They overlap it slightly and there are no weeds at all. He uses a propane torch to make holes in it for planting.

    • @denisebozung126
      @denisebozung126 4 года назад +3

      More importantly for Mike's sake, the propane torch is used to cut the landscape fabric so there are no fraying ends. This does two jobs at the same time - saving you time in your busy day.

      @@kimmurphy6864 Kids are taught to respect. When I have a child show that to me or in front of me I immediately tell the parent they did a great job and compliment them and the child right then and there. They always blush and say thank you for saying so. We need to be the change we want to see. So some kids today show little respect and they are reflecting what they were taught or allowed to get away with. Teach them young! 😁👍🌱

      @@cpnotill9264 i teach kids to ride horses. As I finish with one child they get a prize from my special box if they had "Listening ears on", the next child see's this and hears me so they also pay close attention so they get a prize. By the time they have been there a year I have the full attention without any bribes and they are all super respectful of me since I can deny them the prize or in worst case the pony ride. I get 1 kid a year who doesn't want to be good which is their choice but they have to go home with no pony play.

    Hi Mike, as a cyclists your dream sleaves already exist. Voler Cycling Aparrel ( www.voler.com ) makes sleeves Called Sol Skins. They are breathable, offers UV protections and are American made. Voler is a company based in California. Their Sol Skins were originally made in white but now comes in other colors. They can be simply hand washed in warm soapy water, rinse and hung to dry in a few hours. Although the were designs for cyclists riding under the summer skies, I see no reason why they can't be used while working in the garden. :)

      Was a rat snake they can be cantankerous. But that was definitely a rat snake. They will eat eggs and baby chicks and other small mammals and insects. They will also get up in the tree and get birds out of nests. They can be useful but they can also be a nuisance. I have chickens and when I see a rat snake I chased him off if he comes back I knock him off! LOL your wife Laci went to school with my nieces Angel and Alicia Hartzell. My sister was over the other day and we were watching the homestead videos and she saw Lacey and she said I know her! I said yeah that's lazy they live in a yurt in Mount Pleasant land that likes his father had. She said that she was excited to see Lacy all grown up! Keep up the good work you're doing such a good job. The whole family! I love the way you involve the children in learning how to grow food and how to be sustainable.

I feel your weed pain....the more I grow things, the less I want any grass! one of my neighbors was admiring my garden and asking me questions about things growing in it, and then she gave me such a nice compliment! she said, I could tell you are a gardener, because your grass is not pretty! AHA. I haven't liked them and had the same, "not like when I was a kid" feel to them. So when I was a kid, my grandmother used to take me to this field in the country where you pick strawberries then I think they weighed them and charged you or maybe they charged by the container. That was over 30 years ago now. I don't remember exactly.

    Mike - Great job cleaning out the weeds and shrubs growing up around the pond shore. A good tip to move snakes safely is to pin their head with a stick and grab them just behind the stick. That way they can't turn and strike at you. The only thing they can do after that is poop on you. Not pleasant but it doesn't hurt just smells. I hope your surprise duckling does well. Always wonderful to see your family happily working together.

    I like strawberries, too. Actually, all berries. You wanted us to tell you what challenges we work on. Mine is time management on my homestead & talking with a softer, kinder voice. Thank you Dickson family. I watch your vlogs all the time & feel like I know you personally. Michelle

    I jumped just like Selah. She is a smart, independent girl. Just like her mom and dad. By any chance you have wish lists for the kids? I know you have something on amazon but didnt see anything for the children or Lacie. Peace and love to you and the family. 💜💜

    I struggle to clearly communicate without being pushy.You and your family are such a joy to watch, those kids are learning things most would never have the joy to . Can you use the goats for the deweeding job?

    I never saw a black snake with a white belly, although it really was pretty!
    I loved your attempt to do CPR on the tiller. That was too cute!
