Mike I get up at 430 everyday. Today I woke up and before going outside, which I long since should have done, I thought I would catch up. Listening to everyone help the hollars and watching your all’s kids jump all in, I can’t tell you how joyful you all have made my heart this day.

Your beautiful daughter has a special kind of light that emanates from her ...she always looks so happy even when she is engaging in hard work! I think those of us who still live in what I refer to as "Babylon" are seeing an epidemic of dysfunctional and unhappy pre-teens and teenagers as they have such a poor diet of junk process foods loaded with chemical salt fat and refined sugar most of the children who live in Babylon spend their free time in front of a computer or video games (of course not all) but parents are struggling to make money and lost sight of what is important! Lots of clean food and sunshine, as well as a good daily work out the homestead offers, has such great results on the body and the spirit!Thank you for leading by example..Homesteading/Permaculture is the answer to so many modern problems like epidemic homelessness, epidemic obesity as well as depression! Kudos to you for leading by example and sharing your journey!

    Hello Fit Farmer,
This is David , I like watching your channel for a few reasons, one , yes farming is a work out. And some people just go out to work the garden and don’t look at it like you do, they use bad posture and that promote backaches and over stretch the muscles, Just working bent over hurts enough
You talk about how people can get a proper work out while gardening,
#2 reason I like your attitude it tries to be so positive and uplifting even thought it can be tedious to fit everything in a day,
Thank you I get to live my dreams through you and the Hollar’s homestead ,
I have to get though my liver issues and hope to have life after to get beck to living
    Happy farming, David

What a great helper and what a learning experience you are teaching her. Glad to see kids willing to learn things that will help them provide for their families later. Plus getting her workout. I am thinking like you, I have hard clay and rock so I think to get good soil, I will have to till and work in amendments for a while till I get it built and then go no till after that.

I really hate carrying a 5-gallon bucket (or any bucket) that has the round plastic cushion missing from the metal handle - OUCH! A trick I learned that helps a ton: cut a piece several inches long from a discarded garden hose. Split it lengthwise and fit it over the bucket handle. If Makes a nice cushion replacement. It's soft enough to curve to fit the bucket wire but stiff enough to keep its shape and last a good long time.

    • @MikeTheFitFarmer
      @MikeTheFitFarmer  5 лет назад +1

We wish we had soft soil too. lol The beds that Selah and Mike were preping with the broadforks are probably the best soil we have, most everything else is HARD clay. We have been working on our soil for four years. We have to continue to add compost and amendments every time we turn over a bed.
We really enjoy both broakforks, they both have their own unique qualities.
Thank you so much for watching!

    2:20 Outstanding Homestead Little Helper you've got there....Great job Selah !! 💪😍👍💓
My GKids would always forget the order of activities, they have to do...so there Grand Ma would hand them an illustrated Listing of *Get Stuff Done* in the a.m. to help them stay focused....they would check off the activity and move on to the next one, get it done, and check it off and so one.... It really helps them, and they like the feeling of viewing the list completed and receiving their rewards .
5:04 Outstanding *Toy* ....lol... *Tool* covers alot of area, and user friendly for everyone. Cool beans. That tool doesn't disturb the Earthworm population as much as a gas machine does..I like that.
Outstanding!!, 8:56 how you demonstrate how each work activity on the farm , is comparable to a good cardio body workout , Very helpful.
You should add this to your future Outdoor *Farm Fitness Book*
Many thank you's to Mike and Family for another great video. cheers

Light weight Trail hiker boots are our go to, on the homestead...they are built for alot of mileage and toughness , great stability and protection for a mid height boot, super light weight, and good sole support , which is good for the back.

Super cute kids, beautiful daughter... Can’t you add wood chips or straw or leaves to mulch the pathways and that adds organic matter and fertilizer at the same time as keep down the weeds:)
I often just cut the weeds and add them back in place to compost and mulch.

I really enjoy your garden videos, and seeing your family is lovely as well! My favorite tool is my stirrup hoe, which I call a “wiggle hoe”. Keep up the good work, it’s inspiring!

Corona SoilRIPPER 8-inch Steel Hand Tiller. I tried this because a it was suggested on Utuber. It works great for tilling smaller areas. I have a 30 X 20 garden and can not use a tiller because of my bad back.
