Thanks for this review;) I bought this lens to complement my 70-200 2.8 gm2 for situations where switching between 3 primers is not suitable. For now after couple days and hundreds of photos I am very happy. I was thinking about new sigma 24-70 but size / weight won
As a prime shooter I love this lens because it covers my favorite focal lengths (24,35, & 50), it has f2.8, and is smaller and lighter than the 35mm GM.
As always, great content and appreciate the effort to put this together. I was on the fence on this one, having the 20-70 and wishing it was an f2.8 (more for ego than anything else). But I think I've seen enough to stay with the 20-70. Thanks again!
Hey man! It’s normal that I can see the circuit board from rear optic when it’s collapsed in 50mm? And also zoom resistance is lower at first and gets harder while zooming ? Hope you can answer. Love your videos , cheers
I am curious how it compares to the 24 F1.4 GM since you mentioned it. The 24 GM is almost like F2.8 when cropped to 48mm~50mm, but you also still have that F1.4 at the wide end. Obviously sharpness would take a hit when digitally zooming but I am curious with an a7cR how much that would be. And for video that may be less of an issue?
I am not the type to swith, usually add for a while, then after extensive use, I will remove. The 24GM is old faithful, I do enjoy it even though there are ups and downs, I'm keeping it no matter what. FYI, most these lenses, I already own, but if I absolutely must choose, I would go with the zoom, it would for sure zap the fun out of everything, but I could make them work in practically any scenario.
@@CharlieVN does it worth to buy second hand 24-70 gm2 instead this lens? In my country it is around 400 usd more. The only thing i like with this lens is the size and weight. I dont like its extend or zoom out in 24mm since i like to use that focal length more.
factor in price, if you can afford it, factor in what you shoot, any 14-24 with bulb element needs serious consideration for landscape use, for event photogs that simply need the most range........... they would be using sony oem gear..... for a hobbyist, I would stay away from the sigma combo unless cost was involved, it is a much bigger and heavier combo and filters are difficult to work with.
Stick with the 20-70 since that focal range is so much more useful. Plus the bokeh on the 24-50 looks "nervous". I gave you a shout out in my most recent vid comparing APS-C vs FF lenses. Check it out!
How the heck did your wife allow you get yet another lens? Did you hide it from her? Where are you keeping all the retail boxes? I need to learn your methods. 😂
Good luck with legs when you have wall behind your back or fence in front of you;) it’s just for different purposes. I love primers especially small ones, but they also have some limitations;)
Would like to learn about brighter primes which are not clunkers compared to 24-50. 24mm primes I know (which are brighter than this and having AF) are same weight and same or larger size. Brighter 40mm I know gets into whole another dimension of clunker form factor.

Maybe i can do a brief video on it, will have to work fast, giving this back soon

would you switch from 24mm gm and 50mm f1.4 gm to this lens due to size and weight?

Would you recommend sony 16-25 2.8 G and sony 24-50 2.8 G combo over Sigma art dg dn 14-24mm 2.8 and 24-70mm 2.8 combo?

Really really dislike the decision to make 50mm the unextended focal length. This thing would eat so must dust, because I like shooting landscapes 😫

will check it out! and you're probably right about the range

@@tsizzle this is only a review unit, i had the 16-25 as well, but didn’t have time to make a video
I rather have a 24mm prime and a 40mm prime.
These zoom clunkers are inconvenient, heavy and aren't bright enough.
Silder beats Zoom!
Legs beat Zoom
