    About MURTAGH
Master storyteller and internationally bestselling author Christopher Paolini returns to the World of Eragon in this stunning epic fantasy set a year after the events of the Inheritance Cycle. Join Dragon Rider-and fan favorite-Murtagh and his dragon as they confront a perilous new enemy!
“Christopher Paolini is a true rarity.” -The Washington Post
The world is no longer safe for the Dragon Rider Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror. Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society.
Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air-and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. So begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untraveled, where Murtagh and Thorn must use every weapon in their arsenal, from brains to brawn, to find and outwit a mysterious witch. A witch who is much more than she seems.
In this gripping novel starring one of the most popular characters from Christopher Paolini’s blockbuster Inheritance Cycle, a Dragon Rider must discover what he stands for in a world that has abandoned him. Murtagh is the perfect book to enter the World of Eragon for the first time . . . or to joyfully return.
    Praise for Christopher Paolini:
“A spellbinding fantasy writer.” -The Boston Globe
“A breathtaking and unheard-of success.” -USA Today
    “Make[s] literary magic.” -People

Imma be honest with you, the whole Dragon/ Wyvern debate doesn't really make sense to me. If we were talking about real animals and their classification system, sure. We have this one world and there is a scientific consensus (mostly) on how to organize and thus call all our wildlife.
With Dragons, Wyverns and pretty much all fantasy creatures we have this issue that they originate from different works of fiction, different authors, different cultures etc. There is not "one" organ that correlates to our worlds scientific community that comes together and decides classification systems, it's up to the creators and illustrators of these worlds who get to decide what is what and what to call it. You could spend hours analyzing Dragons in media across time, history and cultures. Obviously, the ongoing "debate" between should "western-style" Dragons have 2 or 4 legs acknowledges that e.g. Eastern dragons look different, it's not even part of the discussion. These are arbitrary distinctions, based on personal opinions. Author 1's dragons have 2, author 2's dragons have 4 legs. Handle it like you handle the East-West discrepancy, there doesn't have to be an ultimate definition. Just look at an Elf, or Elves. Do you think Santa's little helpers or Tolkien's ancient beings that originate from Valinor, gracefull, wise and pure. Some will rather picture little fancy pixies like Tinkerbell.
In short, even if it's meant as a joke, I really dislike the dragon classification debate/ trope. You think they only should have 2 legs + wings? Fine and dandy, I do think otherwise and a lot of people do so aswell, and there is no right and wrong here, so let's just use this time better and celebrate those magnificent creatures together

Miller, the The Bound and the Broken series by Ryan Cahill and the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik have awesome dragons. My favorites are Valerys from TBATB and Ash from SoC. When I think Tiamat, my mind goes to the DnD version which is a five headed dragon but also a deity who you don't want to piss off. Some of the dragon characters were unfamiliar to me. One dragon who should have been on the list would be Draco from Dragonheart fame. By your standards, Christopher Paolini, Draco would be at least tier A for design and personality. He also did a huge number on the overall story and a little in the second movie.

I actually think the mythos of dragons is a bit more captivating than The Inheritance Cycle. Not by much, but still... the fact that it's 7 books instead of 4 might have helped.

If Paolini is able to do what he plans to do with the Inheritance franchise (It's a Franchise now with Murtagh being released), it will surpass that 7 books (And technically already has matched it if you add the guide book and the short story book). Maybe, it'll be on the level of the number of books Star Wars had before Disney bought it by the time Paolini is done.

My main beef with this list is that he simply doesn’t accept Mediterranean dragons as valid dragons. I mean the Hydra is simply put one of the oldest dragons ever. Yes the one that he was ranting belongs in d tear simply due to it being from Disney’s Hercules but Ghidra is firmly a mix of classic Hungarian devil that is the standard for what we falsely call European dragons and a Mediterranean dragon. I mean I believe the source for Ghidora is the hundred headed dragon that is the main source of the mythology behind dragons guarding treasure.

I feel like he did the Hydra dirty because he didn't even acknowledge that it's a specific creature like the rest, almost like he didn't even know where it was from. It was the Hydra from the classic animated Hercules movie and it was pretty good for its day, deserved at least an A for being accurate and savagely portrayed and it has UNLIMITED HEADS not only 3, its a hydra. Maybe it should not have been included because it's not a dragon at all (no wings, two legs), but either way it got a bad rap here from someone who shoulda known better :(
