I think the part about Roran creating a literal wall of bodies with nothing but a hammer sparked my love for hammer/ blunt weapons in video games. One thing that was different and absolutely stood out to me was when Eragon used magic to create large calluses on his hands so he’d stop breaking or injuring his hands while fighting.
Is this a trivia question or a question about something unclear from the book? I don't want to post spoilers yet, so I have to figure out how to answer.

I really enjoyed Eragon when I was young in middle school but didn't read Eldest until years later. I think you identified the pace in Eldest pretty well where we would go through Eragon and his training with Oromis which was a much calmer tone and then we would transition to Roran and the village's struggle for survival which was fast-paced, exciting, and full of danger. I dont know if retcon is the correct word for how the books went. Brom hints at Eragon getting more extensive training hinting at a rider's existence. Yes, on the proper definition of decimation. However, apparently, many people use the word to mean 90% (or at least a whole bunch) are killed. I only found out that this wrong definition is so popular very recently.
Why is everyone always saying that everything copied Star Wars? Star Wars in and of it self is a copy of everything that George Lukas liked! It's also a basic Heros Journey and that has been around at least since the time of greek mythology😂 Eragon is also a Heros Journey and is inspired by a lot of older fantasy book series and that influence is also in Star Wars because that's just fantasy set in space! Yeah you can see a lot of different inspirations in Eragon ecpecially from Tolkien, all kinds of mythology and the Erdsea books as well and you can like that or not but don't say it's a rip off of Star Wars when Star Wars just copies a lot of different fantasy and since fiction stories themselves. Star Wars fans shouldn't act like there fandom is the most original of them all when it's just not. If you break it down every storie is just a repeat of other stories that have there been before that grew into their own worlds with time. Also keep in mind that the Author was very young when he wrote the first book so maybe give him some credit for writing a whole ass book at the age of 16 and then growing that into a very cohesive four book series with its own world building. No storie is perfect so don't look down on other peoples favorites. You can not like a thing and still not take the joy away from people who do.
I'm not taking joy away from anyone, the whole reason I made this video was to get people hyped for Murtagh...which I did. The Star Wars comparison is just the most plainly obvious one. Most people have never heard of Joseph Campbell, or the Hero's Journey, so it'd be a weak reference to make. Chillax, friend.
I understand that you were just reading from the wiki so I'm not gonna touch that. What I would like to suggest is that you edit out when you swallow. I understand that your reading and it's just something that happens when you're doing for a period of time. Wishing you the best in your future videos
Decent recap of the series, could do without all the criticizing of my favorite series. Nothing wrong with pulling inspiration from other series as long as you don’t copy it entirely. 👍🏻
Yeah the third one almost depressed me with how it lost the magic compared the the prior entries, I was in a different place when I read Eragon and Eldest. I was less critical and just enjoyed reading for fun. But in the years between then and Brisingr, something changed in my tastes and I just didn't enjoy it as much. I think now I've read enough books (and bad books) to have an appreciation for something that's just straightforward and wholesome. And it helps that Murtagh was a really good book.
It felt like a clunky retcon, I went back to read Eragon and after Brisingr and never got the impression that Brom was treating Eragon like a son. It felt like something Paolini changed later for the surprise factor.
Great recap. Hate how smug you were about the star wars comparisons when you weren't even the one who realized the similarities. Also who the ef uses a straw in a camp mug? All I have to do is not look at you and I love this video.
Thanks! I want you to know that your annoyance amuses and empowers me to continue being intolerably smug. Subscribe and share for more smugness. An inexhaustible supply. ❤
@@GrahamBradley I can agree on that, tbh. I really don't think all revelations need to be setup (although is good practice, of course, and feels better for the reader).
Hey man, I know I’m just a random dude but I hope you hear me. I’m excited about the next book. I read them ages ago and had no idea a new one was coming. I also didn’t remember shit about them, past the story major anyway. I searched for a recap and several of them were styled as a podcast or angled at a single character. I chose this because it seemed straightforward. And objectively, it was. However, bro… my guy… it felt like you hated it the whole time. It was weird. I felt like my wife was spilling tea about someone. All kinds of exposition, but so much shade. If you wanted to critique, label it that. I went through the whole thing (I even liked it because I always try to help creators). But damn, it was so negative. If you don’t like them, don’t make a recap for people that might. Don’t yuck people’s yums. Unless it was expected, I guess. And you shit on lightbringer out of nowhere? Do you like any books? I don’t think you did a bad job of a recap. But I’d ask you to introspect about the negativity of the video. I’m going to read it. But that video did NOT motivate me to do it. If, perhaps, you had some positivity. Or even curiosity. You’d motivate people to read, then to come back to hear your thoughts. I’ll f*%k off now and leave you to your life. I just thought I’d try and push you in a more positive direction. Just for the videos. We are all depressed, go to therapy for that.
Loved the first three, middling on the fourth, hated the fifth, Light Bringer was an improvement but didn't really accomplish much as far as moving the story forward. I generally don't do negative reviews (I made a video explaining why.) This year I made two videos where I was negative and those got thousands of views, whereas something normal on my tiny channel would get like...fifty. I'm just a dude who reviews books and this is what people responded to. I could lean way harder into the negativity since apparently that gets watch-hours (and therefore money) but that's not what I do. I only did this recap this way because of how frustrated I was with Dark Age and how hopeful I was that Light Bringer would return to form. (Because, once again, I loved the original trilogy. Still do.) Anyway, I read all kinds of stuff and cover it here. I'm not going to please everybody and I'm not trying to. I'm just a guy who likes books and always wants to find another really great one. I've taken a lot of heat from Red Rising fans over this video, it is what it is, but I will say that for someone who didn't like my take on it, you're diplomatic in your criticism, and that's always welcome here. So thanks. Have a merry Christmas.
The movie was done dirty. It was not quite a faithful adaptation. It was not bad. Irons definitely stuck out. It was a good story but the pacing was horrible like maybe close to a handful of important things happen in pretty quick succession but then it jumps to the later action about half or less way too quick. If this was done properly it easily could have had a lot of movies like a Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter.
Thanks for doing this!! So nice to get a brief recap before Murtagh.

Yes, on the proper definition of decimation.
However, apparently, many people use the word to mean 90% (or at least a whole bunch) are killed. I only found out that this wrong definition is so popular very recently.
Once you see it, you see it everywhere, haha
Well if you read murtagh you know the only thing it rips off is Skyrim. Namely Alduin.
@iso-didact789 Never played Skyrim
@@GrahamBradley Seriously?! For shame!
@iso-didact789 Bro I have a wife, three kids, and a mortgage. My time is spoken for 😂
I understand that you were just reading from the wiki so I'm not gonna touch that.
The observations were merited, and not derogatory. I enjoy the books too, and was excited for Murtagh.
Alguien tiene la saga en PDF completa en ingles
La tuve yo, erase una vez, pero no en digital. ¿No la tiene tu biblioteca?
It's funny I think I either lost interest after finishing the second one or started the 3rd one and lost interest very quickly too
Yeah the third one almost depressed me with how it lost the magic compared the the prior entries, I was in a different place when I read Eragon and Eldest. I was less critical and just enjoyed reading for fun. But in the years between then and Brisingr, something changed in my tastes and I just didn't enjoy it as much.
I think now I've read enough books (and bad books) to have an appreciation for something that's just straightforward and wholesome. And it helps that Murtagh was a really good book.
murtagh and eragon being brothers didn't get retconned, it just got shown that their mother left because eragons father was brom.
It felt like a clunky retcon, I went back to read Eragon and after Brisingr and never got the impression that Brom was treating Eragon like a son. It felt like something Paolini changed later for the surprise factor.
Nice video! Sweet recap, but PLEASE fix the autofocus on your camera, it's driving me nuts!
Many such cases! I keep forgetting to nix that, thanks for the reminder
Decimation means only a 10th remains.
Eragon, was a good stars wars
Murtagh will be a full year after the events of A Fork a Witch and a Wyrm
That's good, I just read that one last week
how is that one? i need to get it
I thought it was fine, not great, not bad, just something for the big Alagaesia fans.
@@GrahamBradley ok correction it takes place with murtagh story from that book. That’s the complete first section of the the book.
@@TheMsharrypotter12 it gives more context on things like Angela and why the Urgals have a distrust for dragons.
Decimation is a large amount is destroyed, meanings of words can change over time
They can change through misuse, which is something I resist being a part of.
W summary but I would have left the intro stuff for after.

❤
How dare you even mention the Eragon movie.
🤣🤣
My dad gave my son the DVD for Christmas, he's too young to realize it sucks
It really bothers me all the "this was retconned" instances when they are just simply revelations
The Brom thing lacked the setup for a revelation

Still do.)
Anyway, I read all kinds of stuff and cover it here.
At the very least they could have done a trilogy, but the budget must have been capped and I don't think the director was all that passionate lol
the recap skipped the ra'zac getting killed
Thought I mentioned that. Ah well.
you skipped a whole book 🤦
Which one?
@@GrahamBradley The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm
@HughWanztino Mentioned it, not a big deal. This whole thing was a recap for Murtagh and the only part of FWW that mattered was in Murtagh.
Thank you!
