Since my reading of Eragon's story I've grown up to love Lovecraftian things in fiction so this was an unexpected surprise for me of a merging of my childhood reading then my adult reading habits.
@@TiffanyRussellYeah it may be presumptive of me but when there's an entire cult worshipping a dreaming entity set on destruction it screams Lovecraft lol
I had no idea where the book was headed, and it was almost painful to read, but it was for the sake of storytelling, which I definetly like in retrospect. It hits some very different themes from the other 4 books.
While I was reading I got pretty mad at Paolini during that second half. But I think it also makes sense for their characters, It was difficult to read though
Ha, I totally thought the first part of the book was a DnD adventure as well! It absolutely had that kind of structure. It was slightly weird, but I enjoyed it nonetheless :) It actually got me thinking about what would it take to have an RPG adventure in Eragon. Definitely a different system than DnD, but the possibilities are certainly there...
Gonna say it, much more enjoyed first half of the book where he was travelling That second bit Lovecraftian part with evil cult was something Iam bit overfed last months (maybe because played BG3 last months)
Me too, but the point seems to be that it was more of a transitionary book for whatever the next story will be. I hope Murtagh and Thorn will be in it!
@@TiffanyRussell definite. He only killed Bachel (is this her name in the original too, I read it in German) but Azlagur wasn‘t harmed at all. The hole thing about him sounds a bit like Ragnarök.
The young readers who read the first four books are now in their late 20s early 30s, we were ready for the dark shit.
Very true. I think it’s totally fine to age up with the audience.

I did not think of that influence, but it certainly seems possible to Paolini has read Lovecraft.

@@mildlydazed9608 in that case I don’t think it’s presumptive😂
At some point I’ll need to reread this now that I know what to expect.

It was definitely painful to read. And I think it’s OK that it had different themes than the first four because it’s its own thing.

I felt the same! I was so mad that he put them through all that again. Sure it makes sense, but I did not like it.
I was mad about this too, but I haven‘t had any problem with reading. I read the second 400 pages in about one day last monday.

I think there’s definitely enough there to have some kind of RPG, either a tabletop or video game.
I just started playing DnD in the last few months and I felt the same with the first half! It was pretty fun to read.
The deed is done. I’m very eager to see your impressions in the Character vids. Maybe I’ll have processed my own by then 😅
Oh yeah, that one took a lot of processing
I'm not up for a heavy, dark read right now. I had hoped this would be a fun dip back into my young adulthood but thanks for the warning.
The first half is that fun dip back in, but it definitely doesn’t stay that way.
Awesome book review. I just finished reading this describing as an "intermediary book" is a perfect description.
Thank you! It was a tough read in places, but I’m looking forward to what comes next.
Great book! Excited for the next one!
I can’t wait to see what the next one will be!
I read murtagh a few days ago it was good it was interesting seeing his perspective
I agree, although sometimes he felt like a completely different person than the one we know in the inheritance books
The question remain if the new threat awake will Arya and Murtagh and their dragons will be enought to defeat it ?
I have a feeling that they will need some help for that one
Murtagh reminds me of Breath of Fire video game, as well as Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken Manga.
I’m not a gamer, but I feel like the gaming influences are pretty apparent

I think I enjoyed the first half better too. But I’m looking forward to whatever is next!
I might check out this book if the library has a copy
Your library should, but it’s still new enough you might have to place a hold. If you check it out I hope you enjoy it!
@@TiffanyRussell just checked they have a copy
Some parts were so hard to read because it was so hard to watch characters relive their trauma 😭
Yup! I wanted healing in this one, not more trauma!
I really hoped this was the beginning of a whole new trip into the world of Eragon.

@@TiffanyRusselldidn‘t Paolini by hisself said, that he wanted to release a specific story, but has to bring this at first to build the second up?
@@timme781 yes, which makes me wonder what the next story will be. I’m assuming Azlagur related at the least.

I DNF the book as it just didn’t grab me or hold my interest.
I’m sorry to hear that, but support dnf-ing.
