    I would 100% agree that if you are in the right mood then Paolini just hits the spot. I would consider him a palette cleanser, something to read when you need a light hearted comfort read between the heavier type books (things like Malazan). I have my copy and am waiting for the right time to read it. Good review and video.

    You're absolutely correct that it's setting up for future books. Paolini said that he wrote Murtagh because he was gearing up to write what he planned to be Book 5, and realized there was too much background he was having to explain before getting to the actual plot he was aiming for.

      I'm not sure BLD read that one, he didn't have it pictured.. but he should also!
      I'm excited to read Murtagh. Probably in January- March of 2024 I'll start it. I had to reread the inheritance cycle a few years ago because I hadn't read it since before book 4 came out.

I've been DROOLING over the new Murtagh since it came out. My husband surprised me with it for Easter so I'm only now checking out reviews with no spoilers!

    I never gave Paolini a chance because I believed it was for children(more the fool me) but if it is in the category where Grandmaster Feist rules I´ll give it a try.
    Nice to read some pure good, naive and optimistic stories where heroes and heroics live, some day I find a need for that.

    • @singingcat02
      @singingcat02 9 месяцев назад +2

      Murtagh in particular is rather dark for an Eragon book, I found. Not as light-hearted as the others, still following the traditional hero's journey to some extent, but not so optimistic (even though the ending is good, as always), because the hero is starting off with already a traumatic background. I read the Inheritance cycle when I was 10 so I can't say it isn't for children, but I don't think it's unreadable for an adult, on the contrary. Now that I read Murtagh, I'm going to get back into Eragon 6 years later, and I'm expecting to enjoy it as much as I did in my memories. To give you an idea, it's heavily inspired from Tolkien, and has the same kind of atmosphere, so definitely your traditional fantasy book, not necessarily just for kids (:

      @@singingcat02I find Paolini's books to have grown considerably as he's matured as both a person and a writer.
      I've read Inheritance like 3 or 4 times, ans Eragon is always the hardest for me. It is kinda cliche fantasy in a lot of ways, and I also think its pacing is kinda poor. But he wrote it when he was like 16, so can't really fault him too much.
      But I find that by Inheritance, the characters and plot have a lot more nuance than the series is given credit for, largely by people who have only read book 1.
      Murtagh was certainly darker than previous books as well with heavy themes of trauma, torture, and indocteinstion.
      There are certainly darker, more ambitious and morally complex fantasy books out there, but I feel like Paolini's work is underrated in some ways as well.

    It is obvious that you admire Christopher Paolini. I don’t want to say that’s a good or bad thing. Your personal relationships are your own. But to say that this was an absolute wonderful book, you can’t pronounce half of what you’re talking about, and you just sound like your sucking up. Even if you’re not having spoilers, if you compare this book to the other four, it’s not hitting on nothing. But anybody that wants to read this, it is bad there is nothing good about this book. Christopher Paolini did not keep Murtagh true to his own character at all. I get dude that you were coming off of a horror, something really dark, but the praise othis bookp so highlypp is criminal almost. People don’t buy into when someone is praising someone else, because they like that person. I do believe that you, sir, admire Christopher, and I do believe that that is coloring your perception of this book. Try not to come off as less of a sycophant. be honest, and look at this book for what it truly is.

      But then again, that is YOUR opinion. I don't follow Christopher Paolini as an author and don't even know who he is aside from "the author of Eragon", so you can't say I'm biased. I also read the Inheritance cycle as a child, so you can say I have the nostalgia and expectations of a true fan. Yet I LOVED every second of Murtagh. You obviously were a fan of Murtagh's character and it's hard to please fans because they have their own strongly rooted idea of who the character is. So you do come off as biased too. I certainly would not call the book bad as categorically as you do, and I definitely would recommend reading it. To me it was worth it, opening the way to a whole new cycle with a new possible villain coming up (no spoilers), and a significant and pleasant addition to the series.
      To give you an example, I am a huge fan of a character called Thrawn from the Star Wars universe, and I hated the series portraying him on screen even though everyone was praising it. Yet I never said anywhere the series was trash, I just said my expectations were not met, and that's it. Because it's the truth. You're disappointed and it doesn't hit like your childhood nostalgia does, but that doesn't mean the book is bad.
      Have a good day/night.
