    They made it illegal in ireland many years ago because people were using this natural amazing plant as a medicine for treating things such as depression and anxiety along with many other things. The pharmaceutical companies noticed a drop in profit and so decided to state it was dangerous and banned it! Im gonna make myself some though 😝

      Not unlike what’s going on today with C0V1D, e.g. iv3rm3ct1n. Big pharma loves their vaxx3s 🤑🤑

      Untrue, there were cases of people using this in combination with prescription drugs. This plant can dangerously interact with prescription drugs, possibly even kill you. So they regulated it so that people dont die from it.

I've read somewhere and saw video it's worthless to use that type a dried Saint John's wort, so I'm wondering why would they sell quantity's of this Saint John's wort if it's worthless. I love 💘 your video and very educational thank you yarrow.🥰😍👍✌

    Would freeze drying potentially be effective at preserving the compounds? The process is different from regular dehydration (done using heat) since it extracts the frozen water molecules using sublimation, without passing through a liquid phase.

    I’m clipping off the flowers of my first St. John’s Wort harvest while watching your videos. Just looked up to see how to go about making the medicine and here I am gifted with all of your wisdom and sweetness! One amazing video after the next! You guys are so beautiful and so wise! Thank you! I’m A bodyworker and a big fan of using Saint Johns Wort oil (and no I do not care that it stains my sheets) and I’m so happy to finally make my own to help my clients even more! I put 1/3 of my St. John’s wort oil and olive oil to one pump bottle of grape seed oil. It’s perfect for deep healing.

    There are no alkaloids in Hypericum perforatum. Also, exposing it to heat and sunlight will very quickly degrade hyperforin. When making a fresh plant tincture, the water content of the plant needs to be calculated and taken into consideration when preparing the menstrum. If a 1:1 - 1:2 is desired, cold percolation should be used rather than tincture. Tinctures are normally 1:5 in order to actually cover the herbs. I like your enthusiasm, but i feel that this tutorial was rather lacking in accurate information. An effective herbal extract should never be prepared in a haphazard manner. You mention that your oleum hyperici will go rancid yet you do not dry the herb in order to prepare it, instead relying on evaporation, meaning that your maceration will be exposed during the extraction period... hmm.

    • @jenibutler7138
      @jenibutler7138 Год назад

      I understand that, unlike with most other herbs, you cannot use dried St John's wort to make an oil infusion, so instead you make it with wilted flowers and can also leave the lid off but covered with something that allows the excess water content to evaporate from the infusing oil. That is exactly what Yarrow did, so he is in fact, correct.

    Exposing it to the sun might not be the best course of action as the sun degrades it. Also, drying for a couple days, doesn’t the hypercuratum or whatever that chemical compound is, doesn’t it start to evaporate right away?? Im confused now.

      What I was taught years ago is that wilting will open the cell walls and allows more of the medicinal components to be released into the alcohol. Research each herb well to know how to safely handle them as they each have their own personality.

    Ok. One more stupid question. Sorry I'm bothering you.
    Is it a good idea to make double strength tincture using same vodka for different herbs too times? I found this web-site: www.henriettes-herb.com/articles/tincture1.html
    and it says:
    "Your quality will be lousy, because your menstruum (the tincture, on the second pass) will pop off the most fragile constituents (alkaloids mostly) back into the crude herb, AND will pick up celluloses, tannins and the like that are more robust and can throw out more fragile constituents in a tincture. "
    is it true and its bad idea or can I make tincture more concentrated this way? Have you tried this?

    Ethanol alcohol is toxic so why would do people think this is the best way to consume if your still intoxicating your body.
    It’s ration with tincture 1/3 that means a 3rd or if is cut with toxicity. Educate me please on proving otherwise. Is there a way to create a tincture without alcohol?

    How do you tell when an oil has gone rancid? And how do you tell when a tincture has been spoiled?

    • @Herbal_Jedi
      @Herbal_Jedi  9 лет назад +7

      Susan Smith Its easy to tell if the oil is raid by the smell. Though if your nose is not sensitive enough or you are unsure, its usually safe to give it a 2 year shelf life if you keep it in a dark and cool place for storage.
      As for the tincture. It has a 20 year shelf life or more so should not spoil on you. Though it will lose some potency after 5 years.

    St. John's wort tastes *terrible*. Never found anything that would mask it sufficiently to get it down in tea format. I used it for my depression. Worked very well: knocked me flat. Didn't do anything about the root cause of the depression--that has taken a set of professionals--but it got the brain to shut up. That red colorant also make a good dye bath.

      you can harvest the top 1/3 of the plant, cut with scissors into 1/2 inch pieces, place in jar... gently, GENTLY pack it in as if it were a fairies mattress! then pour 100 proof vodka making sure to cover completely. check it the next day to cover with a litttl more vodka because plant material will absorb . we do a 1:1 ratio to get a proper dose . This is how we were taught by Susun Weed the world reknowned herbalist/green goddess. look her up on yutube. she just did another video in my garden yesterday with her group for green goddess week here in Saugerties, N. Y. farmer john
