They made it illegal in ireland many years ago because people were using this natural amazing plant as a medicine for treating things such as depression and anxiety along with many other things. The pharmaceutical companies noticed a drop in profit and so decided to state it was dangerous and banned it! Im gonna make myself some though 😝
cali budz was used to treat anxiety and depression among other things to do with mental health not sure what way it was taken i know it could be purchased in a pharmacy though
Untrue, there were cases of people using this in combination with prescription drugs. This plant can dangerously interact with prescription drugs, possibly even kill you. So they regulated it so that people dont die from it.
Same in the US. I dont think they outlawed it but they announced it wasnt safe and shouted in everyone's face how dangerous it was. Sure! Dangerous for your prophets, ay farma?
Please tell us how to get st Johns wort to grow ! I have tried to start it from seed 3 springs and they never have started - I live in Texas and tried to start them in my greenhouse - Thanks for the great videos ! Faith
My question is buying dry Saint St wort from.. like mountain rose herbs. I've read somewhere and saw video it's worthless to use that type a dried Saint John's wort, so I'm wondering why would they sell quantity's of this Saint John's wort if it's worthless. I love 💘 your video and very educational thank you yarrow.🥰😍👍✌
Would freeze drying potentially be effective at preserving the compounds? The process is different from regular dehydration (done using heat) since it extracts the frozen water molecules using sublimation, without passing through a liquid phase.
Hey buddy, love your work! I have one question so maybe you can help. If we put olive oil over the flowers, and expose it to the direct sunlight, maybe it helps for the flower to release its things, but olive oil loses its healthy properties, right? Or maybe I am missing something :)
Hello...make the sjw oil each year. Leaving it in sun until it's ready...greek sun... traditionally made this way and works fantasticly...but the tincture?.making for first time...do I leave in sun or just a warm place?
Waauw this is so much easier than reading from a book. I think I will check out all your other videos as well. I bought some seeds and now I understand everything much better.
Hi, sorry didn.t understand what kind of alcohol the pure one you buy at the pharmacy...or other type like vodca, etc, sorry this is all new to me...thanks
I’m clipping off the flowers of my first St. John’s Wort harvest while watching your videos. Just looked up to see how to go about making the medicine and here I am gifted with all of your wisdom and sweetness! One amazing video after the next! You guys are so beautiful and so wise! Thank you! I’m A bodyworker and a big fan of using Saint Johns Wort oil (and no I do not care that it stains my sheets) and I’m so happy to finally make my own to help my clients even more! I put 1/3 of my St. John’s wort oil and olive oil to one pump bottle of grape seed oil. It’s perfect for deep healing.
There are no alkaloids in Hypericum perforatum. Also, exposing it to heat and sunlight will very quickly degrade hyperforin. When making a fresh plant tincture, the water content of the plant needs to be calculated and taken into consideration when preparing the menstrum. If a 1:1 - 1:2 is desired, cold percolation should be used rather than tincture. Tinctures are normally 1:5 in order to actually cover the herbs. I like your enthusiasm, but i feel that this tutorial was rather lacking in accurate information. An effective herbal extract should never be prepared in a haphazard manner. You mention that your oleum hyperici will go rancid yet you do not dry the herb in order to prepare it, instead relying on evaporation, meaning that your maceration will be exposed during the extraction period... hmm.
I understand that, unlike with most other herbs, you cannot use dried St John's wort to make an oil infusion, so instead you make it with wilted flowers and can also leave the lid off but covered with something that allows the excess water content to evaporate from the infusing oil. That is exactly what Yarrow did, so he is in fact, correct.
Exposing it to the sun might not be the best course of action as the sun degrades it. Also, drying for a couple days, doesn’t the hypercuratum or whatever that chemical compound is, doesn’t it start to evaporate right away?? Im confused now.
What I was taught years ago is that wilting will open the cell walls and allows more of the medicinal components to be released into the alcohol. Research each herb well to know how to safely handle them as they each have their own personality.
Ok. One more stupid question. Sorry I'm bothering you. Is it a good idea to make double strength tincture using same vodka for different herbs too times? I found this web-site: www.henriettes-herb.com/articles/tincture1.html and it says: "Your quality will be lousy, because your menstruum (the tincture, on the second pass) will pop off the most fragile constituents (alkaloids mostly) back into the crude herb, AND will pick up celluloses, tannins and the like that are more robust and can throw out more fragile constituents in a tincture. " is it true and its bad idea or can I make tincture more concentrated this way? Have you tried this?
I appreciate that the camera off to the side angle is hot right now. I gotta tell you it really bugs me. I want to engage with you and of I'm watching you talk somewhere else it takes my engagement away. I don't understand this style of cinematography.Learning from the side of your head, not learning, distracted by camera angle. Please don't get sucked into a style that's popular bc it's popular. Be yourself. I love your videos. This one. Not so much.
Ethanol alcohol is toxic so why would do people think this is the best way to consume if your still intoxicating your body. It’s ration with tincture 1/3 that means a 3rd or if is cut with toxicity. Educate me please on proving otherwise. Is there a way to create a tincture without alcohol?
I LOVE your video's and respect your info. But why not fill to the top with (alcohol) covering all fresh herb matter. That's what I always do. Or is that your preference.
Just found you and am enjoying your information. Your attitude is awesome, as well as your balance of science and folk style relaxed approach. Love it!
Absolutely. I gave my granny a bottle for her arthritis, sciatica, spinal stenosis and for her depression. She called me a few days later Ravi g about how much better she felt
Susan Smith Its easy to tell if the oil is raid by the smell. Though if your nose is not sensitive enough or you are unsure, its usually safe to give it a 2 year shelf life if you keep it in a dark and cool place for storage. As for the tincture. It has a 20 year shelf life or more so should not spoil on you. Though it will lose some potency after 5 years.
St. John's wort tastes *terrible*. Never found anything that would mask it sufficiently to get it down in tea format. I used it for my depression. Worked very well: knocked me flat. Didn't do anything about the root cause of the depression--that has taken a set of professionals--but it got the brain to shut up. That red colorant also make a good dye bath.
I tried these tablets from the shop when I had depression but they made me feel ill. I wonder if it would be different if I took it like this and not lab produced? 🤔🌼
I tried a dry tincture of st johns wort this time and it is 2or 3 times stronger and darker to the point that you cannot see through it at all. It became that dark immediately. Give it a try
re: Creating oil: Can you elaborate on why it should only sit in chosen oil for 2 weeks? I've also heard 5 weeks of sunning 'thyme' is best. For my first oil, I'm experimenting with 6 weeks sun-soaking, and then, although i moved it out of sun, original flowers have been sitting in red oil for a few months. Any benefits or risks predicted after this longer flower soaking thyme?
I have started to plant it around my locality in Ireland, have loads of seedlings and made my first tincture today, very nice, I have not had any success finding wild stuff after a lot of searching.
Hi there. Question about using distilled vs spring water. I heard that the lack of salt in distilled water can be very problematic in alchemical processes. Do you have any thoughts on this?
I tried making lemon balm oil and I screwed it up some how. I'm so bummed out about it. I want to make a tincture of my other lemon balm but now I'm afraid I'll mess that up!
Making some of this now. I noticed he used mainly flowers for the oil. But he used some of the leaves and stalks with the tincture. Will just the flowers be more potent than flowers and stem?
you can harvest the top 1/3 of the plant, cut with scissors into 1/2 inch pieces, place in jar... gently, GENTLY pack it in as if it were a fairies mattress! then pour 100 proof vodka making sure to cover completely. check it the next day to cover with a litttl more vodka because plant material will absorb . we do a 1:1 ratio to get a proper dose . This is how we were taught by Susun Weed the world reknowned herbalist/green goddess. look her up on yutube. she just did another video in my garden yesterday with her group for green goddess week here in Saugerties, N. why is your tincture not completely submerged? wont mold grow on whats uncovered??

Not unlike what’s going on today with C0V1D, e.g. iv3rm3ct1n. Big pharma loves their vaxx3s 🤑🤑

Fuckin lobbyists!

I have a ?? Why is dry st John wort sold in package' if we need to use it fresh or wilted. So what to do with it.
Would you only do this with hypericum perferatum or does this work with other forms of St. John’s wort?
May the Schwartz be with you Jedi.
Great info... but the music is as loud as your voice.
I know why you're so happy. You drank that St. John's Wort alcohol mix before the show.
Love Yarrow..his passion is addictive to watch ♡

Could you please make a video on how to do it properly?

Hi , how do you take the ticture? With water.?How many times, thanks
Really helpful for shingles pain
You should mention the drug interactions and theory on how hypericin and the other types of organic compounds work. Nice video.
The Spartans.. the old ones fron southern Greece, called it ..Sword-Herb...Because they used it for Sword injury s
Would freeze drying the St. John’s wart work for this?
Bummed he did not answer. I’m wondering this too.
Love this video, Shane! Just found your page and subscribed!!

Why would you dehydrate the plant for several days only to add some water later??? I thought the idea was to get rid of the water.
What I was taught years ago is that wilting will open the cell walls and allows more of the medicinal components to be released into the alcohol. Research each herb well to know how to safely handle them as they each have their own personality.
Alcohol from supermarket ,dolar store with 20 % alcohol.? give me a brand, and name of the alcohol,please..thank you...and were I can buy that...

Name of the alcohol ,70% or more?..thank you..I now they use diferent cain of alcohol...thank you...
I don’t know if you are still on RUclips but great video. I always hear water was bad for all the oils and tinctures

Haven't been confident with business as was worried about maths of alcohol extraction. How silly!
Ive just found st johns today first time, eating the flower and leaves right now and i can feel its uplifting energy
Its okay to consume orally? Because I took it and felt I drank something bad for me lol. It burned!
Question why do you use alcohol? Wouldn’t that take from the plants natural state?
Hi Herbal Jedi. I've read that the leaves of this plant contain cadmium and lead, but you use the whole thing it seems.
I LOVE your video's and respect your info. But why not fill to the top with (alcohol) covering all fresh herb matter. That's what I always do. Or is that your preference.

Is the oil good for rubbing into back pain or muscle pain?
Absolutely. I gave my granny a bottle for her arthritis, sciatica, spinal stenosis and for her depression. She called me a few days later Ravi g about how much better she felt
What's the best alcohol to use ?
Love your videos! Thank you for being thorough yet to the point
How do you tell when an oil has gone rancid? And how do you tell when a tincture has been spoiled?

I tried a dry tincture of st johns wort this time and it is 2or 3 times stronger and darker to the point that you cannot see through it at all. It became that dark immediately. Give it a try

Whenever I use this stuff for mood support and I run out I have really bad days. Any tips?
Hi Yarrow! I have a large Rose of Sharon in my garden 🇬🇧. Can this be used in the same way as the St John's Wart that you are growing?
Great video Yarrow, its a pity its hard to find St John's wort in Ireland.
Empowering Medicine ✪ Herbalist Is it banned in Ireland??
Only banned from over the counter sales in health shops. But the weather is lacking sun, to support SJW from being a popular plant.
I have started to plant it around my locality in Ireland, have loads of seedlings and made my first tincture today, very nice, I have not had any success finding wild stuff after a lot of searching.
hello,I was able to find some St johns wort tea in some polish shops in Ireland, they have great selections of tea. :)
Aquavidify planning to try growing some sjw myself ..im also living in ireland east coast..any tips?
👋😀✨✨👍✨

Why didn't my turn red? I did dry the flowers on the deck for 5 hours...?
I just love his videos they're freaking awesome very educational.🤗🤗🤗😍😍😍😍
What alcohol is that hi. Im starting so. Should you buy or make your own alcohol.
I tried making lemon balm oil and I screwed it up some how. I'm so bummed out about it. I want to make a tincture of my other lemon balm but now I'm afraid I'll mess that up!
Love this I'm infusing some of this herb but it does not turn red is it because it's not the flowers and only the herb? thanks
I have st johns wort bushes. Is that the same thing. They have awesome red berries on them. Are they any good for health
I'm little bit new about tincture and herb things. Can we drink it ? I heard that it's good for anti depressant
So Mr yarrow' can I make that with very dry herb (st John wort)🤔?
Instead of using water for the tincture could you make a flower essence then put this with the alcohol?
So with a tincture you do a mix of alcohol and water? Do you also let the plant material wilt for the tincture.
If using dry herbs for an oil infusion, would it be wise to use a solid lid instead of cheesecloth so moisture isn't allowed in?
What's the dosage on this? How much of the tincture can be taken per day ?
I’d like to learn from you, like I’d actually pay you to teach me!
