I was looking for a good quality seat cover and found this video and saw how easy-ish it was to do and the finish looked great on camera! Fast-forward a couple weeks later and my order came in via UPS. Looking at all the pieces out of the box is kind of intimidating but watching this video several times gave me the confidence to just take the plunge. A couple hours later (taking frequent breaks from this summer heat), I have the back seat covered and it looks great! Now onto the front seats!
This was way tougher than expected! 2010 Rubicon JKU. 20 hours it took me. My hands are killing. Love the look! You made it look easy. I had airbags. The front seats were bear! I added after market seat heaters too. That took some extra time too. Love all your vids!
Little tip on the head rest retainers if you push the foam down you can see the tabs that hold them in the seat back you push those tabs and the retainers lift out the reason I point this out is because I've seen a guy tear the seat cover trying to stretch it over the headrest retainers. Good video I appreciate you making it!
Those are great leather covers and I had the opportunity to check them out and they look and feel fantastic.
I know this is an old video but I just used it to help me install some Katzkin upholstery that I got dirt cheap on Facebook marketplace. You weren’t kidding about the U clips 😅. I have to say that you made it look easy it was labor intensive but I saved nearly $2000. Thanks for making this video!
Awesome video and very informative. What I found that worked well when trying to connect the u-clip on the seat back cover was by laying the seat back flat on the ground, backside down, then applying my knee to the the seat back thus compressing the foam giving me just enough stretch to connect the u-clips. I tried it exactly the way you did to no avail.
Amazingly thorough. Thank you so much for this. The closest qualified installer to me is an hour and a half away, otherwise I’d certainly have them do it. I spent upwards of $2000 on these leather interiors and I want it done absolutely right, but you made this almost look easy. I’m still on the fence, but if I do decide to go ahead and tackle this, your video will be playing on the TV on a loop in my husband’s garage/man cave.
Love your DIY videos Brad. You take the fear away for a newbie in upholstering. Thank you!
Thank you very much! For the record... I'm a newbie in upholstering, I'm just thankful I was able to figure it out and share it with you all.
Wow.. nice! TBH.. I was expecting leather seat covers when I first saw this.... but this is the real deal! Great video!
When I first opened the box, I was blown away by the quality, better than OEM in my opinion. Glad you enjoyed the video. I always look forward to seeing what you're up to on Overclocked!
That's a lot of work!! Great video, I'm sure this will help a lot of people.
Thank you! I hope some folks find this helpful.
That's a great video. Showing all the steps, easy to understand directions and quicktime through processes.
Awesome video! The install turned out great!
DONE!!!
There are some tricky spots. But, if someone takes their time... it’s not horrible...
Thanks for the video. I wouldn’t have attempted it until I saw that...
Excellent instructional video, and the leather covers look good too!!
Thank you!
haha i was intrigued but you lost me at "remove the seat" XD
Can you please do a video on mods that you think all 1st time jeep owners should get.
Would love to see this as well
My fiance has a 2017 4 door sport. She also purchased a full Katzkin Kit to change the stock interior to leather (before I met her). We have put off the installation because shops here in Houston have given outrageous quotes. So, thanks to your video I am going to attempt it very soon to surprise her. I will keep you posted on how it goes. And, whether the Katzkin has any quirks.
My fingers are crossed that I don't mess it up. But, for the first time (after seeing you pull it off) I feel confident I can do this in the garage over a weekend.
Thank you for the video...
This projects is a great DIY and your fiancé will love that you did all the work for her.
@@TrailRecon I told her about your video yesterday. She's VERY excited. She bought the Jeep in Oct 2017. Ordered the seat kit in November 2017. So, I think she's ready.
Again, Thanks to your very well done video... I know I can pull it off.
Did you get the Hog Ring pliers and rings at a standard auto parts store? Or, did you have to go to a specialty place to find them?
@@TrailRecon The seatbelt... Does it need to be disconnected from the seat... Just checking while I'm at the store buying my hogring pliers...
yes
Superb ! That's is one hell of a detailed installation guide !!!
Very nice !!! I like how they transformed the look of your interior !! And yes the smell of leather .
Thanks for the diy video. I have leather seats but twins that are always cold on our trips. So my reason to watch this is to see how the rear seats come off to install heat warmers in back. The switches I’ll install near the window up/down switch rear of the center console.
I won’t need to remove as much and probably get away with use unclipping and tucking the warmers up in the seat backs, but I’ll have clips and the tool handy just Incase.
Looks great! I liked the original black seats also.
Thank you!
Wow those look really nice! Good color choice and they do brighten things up.
Thanks! I'm really glad I decided to go with the silver, gives it a cool custom touch.
Great video. What colors did you choose ?
Very good work Brad and as I can imagine, time and patience but the result is great. Congrats. Thanks for sharing.
great video thanks for the great instructions
Great how too video but as someone who works in an auto manufacturing plant PLEASE make sure to put the proper torque on the seatbelt anchor bolts and seat mounting bolts. They are designe to perform a certain way in a crash. We consider these A Rank bolts. Very important!
You make it look so easy. I will have to do this someday on my vehicles. Good to see they're from my home state too!
Awesome Upgrade and Great Video! I just bought some Katzkin Leather Seat Covers and this Video came in very handy!
Would love leather, or at least 100% vinyl seats that LS offers as well. Just from work the cloth seats have gotten filthy real quick. Mainly drywall and concrete dust from my clothes. Maybe a project for next year. Great video!
You make a great point! My cloth covers were full of dust. After I removed them I shook them out and couldn't believe how dirty they were.... I vacuumed them all the time!
Is there anything specific to worry about with side airbag seats?
Brad you rock! I think this video just helped me decide how to spend some Christmas bonus 💰
Those are katzkin seat covers with labels cutoff and add their LS Logo( Leatherseats just orders seatcovers and cuts the katzkin labels off. I've seen them do it)
My 08 Rubicon has seat airbags, will this process work the same?
Great Job, Great Look, and Great How-To Video. Well Done.
you made that look easy. i'm thinking about this!
Well, I wouldn't rate this as easy, maybe more moderate. I really believe just about anyone could conquer this install.
I can see doing this upgrade if you have cloth seats that are beat up a bit, but the Rubicon leather you are ripping out looks good or the same as what you are replacing it with, unless it is torn in some area's.. I would of left the old, but that is me. Nice video by the way, lets me know what it takes to remove that material on seats in a jeep.
Awesome Video real nice job man great work
Thank you!
That looks nice
Nice job. Adding leather on a Wrangler is a $3000 option.
Thanks for finding a way to save big money buying custom cut seat materials vs paying for installation of other brands.
Love it!
Well done video. This was very helpful, thanks!
I was thinking about getting these along with their heating and cooling kit. Have you tried that?
Which of the three options of leather did you get and how durable have they been to this point?
Thank you!!!
Hello. where are the seat covers from? do you have manufacturer or website? Greetings
What size hog rings if new ones are needed?
Someone HELP! I've searched everywhere and cant find help. I disassembled the driver's seat and upon putting it back together, I no longer have the ability to recline! I can't figure out what I am missing.
Well, that certainly looks great, BUT... I priced just cheap vinyl at that web site, and it was $759!! Plus, you just get the cover and obviously have a ton of work to do. I suspect you could find pretty nice seats that you can just install and be done, rather than go through all this for such a hefty price tag.
TreesOnTheBeach some seats will run you 150-400 a piece
Might check a local upholstery shop.
I'm a bit late to the party but this is a great video. I've watched this a few times, I'll be doing my own install soon. I just noticed on my last watch that it appears you didn't use the new airbag sack included on the leathers, why is this? thanks
Love the color combination. I have silver also and think the seats really make it. Where can I come pick up the original cover that you don’t need anymore.
How did you remove the tether anchor bezel’s from the back of rear seat? Without breaking them.
The black ones looked much better? Lost your man card on this one unless your were pressured by your better half. What’s next new drapes?
Those look great but I will stick with my Bartact seat covers. Easier to install. Easy to clean and they have lots of pockets and bags.
Great video! Would you post a list of all tools needed for this job. Thanks!
Hey Brad I was wondering if I could get your opinion on if a Jeep Wrangler was a good first vehicle I'm just now starting out and looking for my first vehicle and I noticed that the Jeep Wrangler caught my eye can I please get your opinion..... Thank you
I think its great you did this yourself. I on the other hand would be bringing out those Sailor cuss words, throwing stuff, pulling out tufts of hair and screaming at the dog before it was all over. Good job though, the seats look awesome.
So off camera trying to get those U clips to come together... the Sailor in me may have come out once or twice. Thanks!
Great lookin seats!
Thinking of doing this to my Jeep. Well (having my bf do it 😂). How do you like the seats after 2 years?? Do you still have them? Lasting long?
Did your bf install the seats? 🤔🤣
Have you done a review on power dome hood? I am sure lots of jk owners want to upgrade the hood and have questions around the vents and how functional and address water concerns.
Great video, looks much easier than I thought. Do you happen to know how do these seat compare to Katzkin leather seat covers in regards to price and quality?
Great video. I have a question and hope you can help me. For central Florida (more towards Cocoa beach) weather, would you recommend 100% leather or 60/40 combination?
Nice video, best I've seen on this subject. It's got to be a workout for the hands.
Thank you!
thank you for this, what size are the hog rings?
Can share the tools names and place to buy it. Thanks. And did you know how i take out back seat head seat headrest on a Jeep JL. Thanks again.
i purchase a leather seat kit from Katzkin for my jeep JL 2018 wondering if anyone had any tips or video on how to install.
cant do this with the
front supplemental airbags right there mounted o the seats.
I'm really curious about finding a set of seating brackets that move the seat frame back at least 4"...Does anyone have any leads regarding this issue?
Is it possible to order only fronts for my JL? I tried to online & it only gives me a front & rear option
Any way to permanently remove those rear seat head rests (posts)?
Would you recommend marking down the spots where the hog rings are so you know where to replace them with the new seats?
Not necessary, you can see the small little bars that you place the hog rings on pretty easily.
Great video and would like to join the movement...can you please explain the ordering process. The web seems a bit confusing and pricey to make a stupid mistake order. I used my phone and couldn't tell a difference on advertise pictures...it looks all the same except prices....and yes I know the higher the price the better the item but I'm more concerned on looks then quality. If you could please make a video on what to look for or how to order...thanks
can i have the stock covers :P
i am having a hell of a time removing thee bolts in my 2017 JKU - were your LocTited?
how are the seats holding up, great install video. its been 10mo since your video. you satisfied?
No complaints, they are holding up well and easy to clean! Yes, I'm satisfied and would do it again.
Hey Brad, what percentage leather did you choose from LS for the install in this video: 100% Leather, Premium trim, or Deluxe trim? If Premium or Deluxe trim, is there a noticeable difference (visually and feel) between the vinyl and the leather? If 100% leather, are there any places that it really wears and is susceptible to damage? Finally, is the leather here their Standard or Ectasy leather? Is there a major difference between the two in how durable they seem?
I just did the premium and I can't tell a difference at all and am very happy with it. I'm not sure about their Ecstasy, I know they have a few specialty options that seem cool, but I can't speak on them.
Can I buy your old seats
Nice video, lots of work. Do they put their logo on all their covers, or was this a promotional deal to save on your cost?
Thank you! The logo was a special thing they did for this project. You can have nothing there or custom embroidery if you like.
I think you should have had 'em do YOUR logo.
Damngood lookin
What’s the discount code
Leather seats in a jeep with the top down in the summer. Just as bad as driving a convertible car with leather seats.
Is this the katzkin?
you should see how fast it is to do this at the plant. but way more harder lol
The only thing that is making me scared to buy these are cutting holes in the seats.
I prefer the old ones. Leather seats are for carriages
Why not just go for the leather seat option from factory, has integrated side airbags too...
Raoul Duke Most people buy cars used my friend
Yeah, like the used 2013 Sahara I just got, with, wait for it... Leather seats and integrated airbags.
Went to the website. No options to buy just the front seats. I don't have my back seats anymore. and $900 is too much for just 2 seats.
Give them a call, great customer service, maybe they can hook you up?
900 should have asked them if f that come with a job
Nice, ok how much $, or did I miss it? thx my friend.
rok bottom Its like 700-800
It looks great but they are sooo expensive.......
Did you order the deluxe kit or the all leather kit?
This was the deluxe kit.
I have no interest in this mod and I really do no like leathers seat, but I found the video very interesting and enjoyed. Great video.
I'm glad you found the video interesting and enjoyed it... thank you!
Brad has a ton of great projects and video!
2017 & 2022 katzkin
What size are those hog rings?
I ordered them through Leatherseats.com and it was whatever size they sent me... sorry, I don't have specs.
Are the hog rings provided or did you have to buy them?
Nope, the hog rings and pliers are sold separate.
TrailRecon thanks. Your seats and rig look great.
Thank you!
mmmm bacon!
I installed the deluxe package in my 2016 jku today!!! Holly shit 8 hours later got it done..
Did you have any problems with the seat back adjuster clip, and disconnecting the connectors for the airbags?
Does your seats have the side airbags? How was that to factor into the install? Thanks
The covers look great.. but damn... i cant afford $700+ for dope seat covers
Oh hell nah. I would mess this install up lol. Anything mechanical I can do but not this lol
Me either, although I'm sure if you took your time you could do it, but I would prefer to pay someone to have it done.
Not for XJ's Bummer
I'm spending a grand on leather? No fudging way this id DIY. I would go to an upholstery shop.
waaaaaaay too much work, Che cazzo.
