Yeah I stopped playing was waiting on that but finding out they canceled it and we’re stuck with the same bs game. It’s just not the same. They had respect and admiration for the community in ow and for ow2 it was cash grabs and no respect. I used to be a top 500 player but I already started taking my leave and just decided that this game isn’t going into the right direction like other games. I’m honestly enjoying not having to feel entitled to grind a game that they don’t obviously care about anymore. They do good animations but besides that things change.

definitely the best sound engineering and ambience out of any cinematic they’ve made
1:32 for example, the way the music chimes in, but it lightly fades to a lower volume, serenading with the ambience, the fact this was made almost 7 years ago blows my mind, every small detail is worth sightseeing

One thing I wanted to double check...in this Hanzo says, "real life is not like the stories are father told us".
In the game there's a voice line you can unlock at level 74 where he says, " real life is not like the story are father's told us".

That would have defeated the purpose and message of the story: Genji returned to forgive his brother, not condemn him; to move on from the past, not re-open old wounds. Though he's been permanently, cybernetically changed, Genji has been given a second chance at life: and now he's giving his brother a second chance too.

It makes more sense if you look at it from the Japanese point of view. Over there it's considered rude to say the first name of someone you don't know. It's only something people really close or intimate are allowed to do

Me and my lil bro already played this game since season 1, i still remember we were always picked shimada brothers in QP. Can't believe i'm playing OW 2 without him now, my lil bro passed away in 2020 because of corona. This is still a hard time for me tbh, somehow i always fantasizing that the genji line was said by my lil bro to cheer me up, if only there was no corona in 2020 my lil bro would have been 19 this year. Thank u Overwatch!!! U have given me an opportunity to have a lot of good times with my little brother. ❤️

I never even realized we actually see a glimpse of Hanzo's swordsmanship when he's fighting Genji using his bow as a melee weapon. He's moving like he's wielding a sword.
In one of his voice lines he says something along the lines of "if you think im good with a bow, you should see me with a sword"
@@allie5171Hanzo was the best swordsman in the clan and vowed to never use it again after having to kill Genji with it. Hence why he strictly uses the bow.

@@wyattmorey3279Yes, he likely swore off blades in general. The word for sword in Japan can refer to a sword, but it can also refer to a bladed weapon in general. For instance, a kunai could be considered a sword.

I love how Hanzo mourns his dead brother and once he realises he's alive, the first thing he does is get ready to kill him again.
I think because he honoured the sparrow he knew not the robotic guy he became also the fact that as he says it was my duty and my burden that does not mean I do not honour him

I think that line implies(like you said) Old genji was carefree and barely and didn’t care about fighting, but current genji is like old Hanzo.
Fun fact: he didn't want to kill him when he jumped at the roof. Hanzo wanted his reaction if he was the same arrogant playboy youth like he used to, that's why he didn't shoot but yeah I laughed at that too :D

It’s January 2024. For some reason, I wanted to watch this animated short again. What a nostalgia trip. Playing Overwatch back in High School with my buddies 6 years ago are some of the best memories I have. I remember my first set of golden guns, my favorite legendary skins and dance emotes, and hitting platinum in competitive. It was so much fun. I’d honestly give anything to play 2016-17 overwatch again.
I haven’t played since 2020. Watching this video feels like visiting the grave of an old friend. RIP OG Overwatch
It literally took me years to realize that the narrator is voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat (1995). Honestly, perfect casting.

I can't believe how good the game was and how interesting the characters were. It is very sad to see the state of the game being so bad these days, basically since overwatch 2 was released. It's like a nostalgic childhood memory, such a great moment, but completely in the past and can never be experienced again.

Rexart35 -_- it´s a joke, dude. In that map, the first point that you have to capture is very easy to defend. A bit unbalanced, if you ask me. Most teams who get it first round on the Defense side usually pick 1 or 2 Torbjorns and /or a Bastion, making the whole thing tedious.
it is very easy u just need to know what to do but if u don't snowball on to the second point the second one becomes a pain

This short remains the absolute best they’ve ever made, which considering the quality of them as a whole, says a lot. The tale of Hanzo and Genji is still one of, if not the, best story beats in the game, and I sincerely hope that it gets explored deeper in OW2 PvE.

I like how they dropped this epic line hinting some important events happening, I remember this being really exiting 7 years ago; what would they do with these characters?
Turns out, they did absolutely nothing.
The moment Genji jumped in and said "I need healing" gave me the chills.
As an Ana main you almost triggered my PTSD by saying the words "Gengi" and "Healing" in the same sentence.
There's more character building in this 8 min clip than some TV shows are able to pull off in 8 seasons.

Heart Gear Like, no hate to Overwatch series, I think they are really great but I think there are some tv shows where the charachter (Not good at english) build up is just as good. But to be fair tv shows are meant to be slow building and this is more of a short film

This was my first watch. I bought the game since 1,5 years ago, prehaps. I didnt know about they were brothers until know. That is mindblowing

He used to be able to get in 8 swings max on an ultimate in the past year or so they made it 7. But sheathing dragon blade at the end doesn’t affect deflect anymore, it used to make deflect end at end of ult if you were using it

So perfectly encompassing my feelings as overwatch 2 came. Finally closure.
The incredible supports disappeared. The 1v1s that were satisfying and challenging...gone.
DD friends and lovers from this game. I will forever remember this journey.
But where I had hope there came sorrow and now I happily say:

6:05 Everyone is saying how "Real life is not like the stories our father told us!" line gets them in the feels. For me it's how Hanzo looks at Genji. He looks heartbroken at the sight of what he did to his younger brother.
I'm an older brother to one younger brother as well. Putting myself in Hanzo's shoes I can understand the conflict he has. This cinematic is beautiful at expressing a lot with just the word "Genji".
The animation work on the emotions conveyed by his eyes is just top tier. I always come back just to experience how the short culminates, for me, in Hanzo's gaze when looking at his brother again.

I just love how only Hanzo's dragons (the blue ones) attack him. The green dragon veers off. It's exactly what the story is saying...that Hanzo is punishing himself for killing his brother, while his brother has already found peace.

Trionix idk why everyone thinks hanzo hates or is still mad at genji. Even those who watch the short think so. Hanzo isn't mad at genji at all he actually regrets killing him. At the end when he aims his arrow at genji he is still looking for a reason to hate him but afterwards he realizes what he's done he feels sorrow. You can see it on his face when he walks away. Then he continues to honor his brother despite him being alive.

Honestly overwatch is one of the few games that has a good storyline n i believe it could be very successful unlike other video game movies. Not just that the overwatch community loves the lore. Altho, i think a movie wouldn't be enough to talk about everything, and if some characters were left out it would leave some fans disappointed, perhaps a mini series (one with connected episodes n storytelling unlike these animated shorts)

I find it really cool that when Genji reflects the dragons, the green dragon seems to leave whereas the blue dragons go back at Hanzo. It possibly symbolises that Genji has forgiven him and stuff but Hanzo hasn't forgiven himself before he even says it. Either that or I'm overthinking something that wasn't intended but makes sense. I didn't explain it well but it's probably fine
I don’t think you are overthinking it. I think that it’s a metaphor that Hanzo hurts himself and Genji is trying to show him that. His green dragon pulls up before hitting Hanzo and his own dragons go right through him showing that in his lust for power, Hanzo has only hurt himself
When i play Overwatch with my little bro we play as the Shamada brothers. I play Hanzo, since I'm the older sibling, and he plays Gengi, since he's the younger brother! We're an unstoppable duo!

I didn't understand the purpose of the feather until I realized Genji earned the name Sparrow when he was younger. You see the feather when Hanzo places incense and when Genji teleports away at the end.
