Man I’ll never get tired of their shorts. I’ll rewatch them all multiple times and will know exactly what happens but it still always bring a tear to my eye how beautiful everything is 😭. Wish they’d make a feature film already

@@Scrilp I'm kindda late, but Doomfist has an interaction in which he asks Genji who taught him the way of the blade and he answers with something among the lines of "the best swordsman in the world did" (thanks to Kiriko's lore we now know that it was her mother) to which Doomfist answers in a rather angry tone with "(grunts) Her..."
There's also another interaction where if you are killed by kiriko as Doomfist, he will say "Truly her mother's daughter" implying that he has already clashed at least once with Kiriko's mother or at least encountered her and the outcome clearly wasn't of Doomfist's liking

I don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but the guy without the mask who wants to "call for backup" is the same guy from the "Dragons" short, who attempts to call for backup but instead gets an arrow through his phone. I'm telling you, the animation team really does just go hard.

Wow. I didn't know that. Poor guy, first he got his phone shot by Hanzo and then ran into a bell face first and now he got kicked in the face and got nearly his face chopped in half by a fire axe.
Its the Hashimoto clan in both cinematics. Not sure how important that guy in particular is to the story of the area, but the inclusion in this short was likely to create the intentional link betweent the two in the story.

Honestly I think comparing to arcane isn't really fair. This is quite better.
Thing is as a short it works but it is no guarantee that a series or full movie would work out. You could more or less just put all the character shorts together and called them a series if you wanted to go that route.

These Overwatch shorts are incredible. Pixar used to be this good - which in itself, is upsetting to admit. The roller coaster of emotions in most of these amazing animated stories is staggering.

I think the idea is that her ult is comes from the Fox Spirit empowering ordinary people to be able to defend themselves. At least in this instance.
I remember when this first came out and I watched it for the first time and it was sensational, now almost a year has passed and watching my baby kiriko still hits the same, time really does fly ❤️

To bring fully grown men to tears after 5 minutes of storytelling and nothing else is a talent at the peak of animation & writing.
So glad Overwatch is able to do one thing at least that we can all agree is amazing.
Gives me friendly neighbourhood spider-man vibes. Really cool to just have a character that isn't a conventional part of the grander Overwatch lore, yet still has a place in it.

Nearly one year later and I still rewatch this on occasion, Kiriko is one of the coolest heroes in the game for sure.

I am not saying the team doesn't have talent, I'm just saying they are wasting their potential by sticking them to cosmetics and emotes for most of the time.
They should pull a Riot Games (I hate saying that name out loud) and let their creative team make their own series based on the Overwatch universe. There's so much potential for it.

The fact that I still am brought to tears watching this short a year after release and many, MANY seasons of frustration of Overwatch truly speaks to how much these stories pull us in.
I love that the Kitsune is never physically manifested throughout this whole animation, but you know it's there. Just like her mom thought that it was "an imaginary animal spirit", It's more of a "seeing isn't always believing" sorta stance and I love it. Blizzard still giving their A game when it comes to animations
I think they Just cut costs and time so kiriko wouldnt get overshadowed. Its Basic script guideline.

Back 11 months later, after Blizzard finally admitted what we all suspected all along: Overwatch 2 is basically the Krusty Krab 2.
No one will ever realise how much I love these overwatch animated shorts, I will forever find comfort in anything to do with overwatch wether it's lore, animated shorts or playing the game. Also when kiriko used her ult I got chills all over, the one thing I love about these shorts is that they always give me chills

Can I just say that I love that they actually use JSL (Japanese Sign Language). It would've been easy to use ASL and most people wouldn't have noticed/cared, but the fact that they put just that much more effort into this short makes me happy.

For example, BASL is a variation of ASL that came about among deaf African-Americans because of school segregation in the United States, and gestures & styles of BASL signing are still prominent today in some communities.
I love the sign language conversations they have. I certainly wouldn't mind having more movies with deaf people in it. Seeing sign language animated is so cool.
I would recommend watching the animated movie A Silent Voice, if you haven't already. It's excellent.

@@REDACTED9615 Game shows have been blowing up recently harder than ever. With LoL and Cyberpunk both striking it rich and bringing massive ammounts of players to their games. NieR Automata is getting an anime adaptation as well.
Considering how big Overwatch 1 was, the brand new Overwatch 2, and how talented blizzard's animators are....I think an animated show is already in production but they just haven't announced it yet.
Its definitely the right business move.

Even though it’s short and simple, the backstory/explanation of Kiriko’s fox headband is very wholesome.
whatever Blizzards problems, their storytelling and their animation remain not only on-point (with 1 exception) and easily among the top 5 in the industry as a whole.
If the gaming side ever fails them, they would do amazing as an animation studio
My #1 favorite thing is when a part of a characters design is actually a gift they received recently, it’s so wholesome and makes you feel happy every time you see it 💗

In case anyone missed it, the Hashimoto guy who calls for back up on the phone is a direct call back to the Hanzo and Genji Short. The same exact guy (in terms of clothing, hairstyle and possibly phone) runs into the bell when Hanzo shoots the phone out of his hand.

Imagine an Overwatch series, hour per episode, and each one focuses on the story of a different hero or heroes (some work together from origin, like Genji and Hanzo) and the finale of Season 1 brings them all together… that would be perfect!

I probably wouldn't spend hours of my life watching cartoons about video game characters. Arcane was good but I watched maybe 2 or 3 episodes and got bored of the story. Never finished it. Good animation isn't enough to occupy my attention.

they'd have to divide over multiple seasons. 36 episodes would be a lot for one season. so this would work pretty well if it was an origin story show kinda

The best part of all this, is the fact that in this world, it’s not just adults that are fighting back, it’s kids too, especially when fueled by the spirit of the fox.
Genji needed healings so bad they made a healer version of genji
Fun fact, the guy that says he doesn't want to get kicked in the face is the same guy that Hanzo made run into the giant bell in the "dragons" short featuring Hanzo and Genji. He also tries to call for back up in that Short too.

that’s why he is also missing some teeth i. this short because he got them knocked out by the bell. also at the end of Dragons short genji disappears and leaves a feather which is the same feather kiriko has on her loading screen…. 😮
also the sword that was left in the Hanamura temple when hanzo was meditating to is the same sword kirikos mom has…
If Kiriko’s mom is surprised about the Fox spirit being real, she should REALLY be surprised about the Shimada’s dragons.
Wasn't she the one who trained Hanzo and Genji, when they were children. So shouldn't she be aware of the Shimada dragons?

@@mratlas3364 it's not that she thinks that Kiriko is weak but you forget one point. This is her mother .She's just scared of losing her daughter. That's a normal reaction. I mean even if you know how strong your precious one is , wouldn't you be worried if you know they live in a dangerous place ?

I never played the original OW, but I watched all the animated shorts.
Like LoL, I love the animations, but I don’t really want to play the game and interact with the game community. I hope they eventually make an animated movie/series, like they did with Arcane.
