Retired 1 year ago under CSRS after 38 years of service and can completely relate with the retirement woes you experienced!! Arghhhh!!!! So glad I’m done with that. Happy retirement!! Upside...I have soooo much more time to quilt!!
Don't faint! I remembered to click the thumb. I hardly ever think of it. So I never heard of a "wet signature" or a thread eating hand wheel. Amazing that your machine kept on sewing with all that thread wrapped into it. Sounds like your retirement and moving are about the same hassle. LOL I'm sure you will get it all figured out soon.
Oh my!! When I retired from Fed Govt quite a few years ago (CSRS) I thought my process was hard. I now see I was lucky to have a human resources office in my building to assist me. Hope it goes smoother for you.
Oh Becky! My husband went through all of this too! Well congratulations on your retirement!! I retired from nursing just as COVID took hold in January 2020, then had back surgery. Fast forward 1 year and I have my new baby PR1055X. Now all I have to do is learn how to use it lol. Loving all of your videos. If you ever feel up to doing a meet and greet for your followers be sure to let me know. I live by Randolph AFB in Schertz.
I was just at Scrappy the other day and viewers from Kansas popped in to say Hi. Too fun! Unfortunately, now that I'm retired and not near Randolph 5 days a week, I never know when I'm going to be there. Would love it though!
I’ve watched your vlogs for quite a while and although I don’t quilt I find them fascinating, the things you make are really beautiful. I have been sewing for about three years (came to it a bit late and wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it) but I do and it has taught me patience I never knew I had, I am still making mistakes but also learning lots from people’s vlogs. I really envy your sewing room, I sew in our spare bedroom which is quite small but once I start, a couple of hours passes in no time and I love it. Since lockdown I’ve ordered fabric online for the first time, usually go to the fabric shop in the local town. You are so lucky in USA in the pricing of fabrics and especially sewing patterns, they are much lower than here in the UK. Best Wishes for your retirement and keep making great videos
YES!!! Please do a video for the birth announcement!!!! I have a granddaughter coming in August. I'm new to Embrillance & would love to learn more about it!!!
I cannot wait until you do your tutorial on the birth announcement. I’m new to embroidery and you’ve taught me so much already. I’m such a visual person and follow along on You Tube tutorials. I’ve bought all supplies and I’m ready to go whenever you are! Congrats on your retirement!
Your retirement paperwork story is amazing! Hope it's all straightened out now and they have everything they need. The birth announcement is so cute. What a wonderful gift. I need to check out the Basket Case pattern. What a super quick sew using 2-1/2" strips. Can't wait to see your finished quilt. Especially love the binding fabric. See you next video.
Congratulations on retirement!! Government and paperwork is not a pretty picture but your almost finished quilt and the baby announcement are!!! Enjoy more free time creating!!!
I would love to watch a video on how to create the birth announcement. It is exactly what I want to make but I am new to embroidery and nervous. I have downloaded a design from Juju that looks like the one you are showing.
I love all your videos. Congrats on your retirement!! I love these birth announcement wall hangings. I have 2 greatgrandsons Im going to make these for. Im doing a pillow one right now.
I retired on Dec 31, 2011, but on my firms I put Jan 1, 2012 because it was my 1st day of retirement. My supervisor didn't tell me. I didn't get paid for 2 months and it took a week for them to figure it out. When my hubby retired from his job, he just walked in to HR, said he wanted to retire, and that was it, he was retired. When I first got my embroidery/sewing machine I also had 2 spools of thread in the spool holder. The same thing happened. When I took it to the dealer they explained the fhread had just moved in the air current created by the other spool unwinding as it was used and the long tail of the other spool spool caught onto the hand wheel. It started winding aroubd it. Luckily I stopped before it went into the body of the machine like yours did. The repair guy laughed as he pulled the hand wheel off and pulled the thread out. I would have never known how to the the machine cover off, and it would have voided my warranty if I had. I truly feel your pain.
So you just left the crooked Warm in to give us all a way of fixing something that goes waunky. Its great to see other make mistakes and fix them. Helps the rest of us. Thanks for sharing all of it.
Happy retirement Juju. I have been retired for 5 years now and did the same thing you did. What a mess. Same with signing up for Medicare. Glad all that is done. Love sewing so much. First time seeing you. 🌈
That birth announcement is adorable, congratulations on your retirement . I was able to go to my scan and cut class this week first time since we came out of lockdown so nice to be able to get together again. So lucky we are covid free here on Guernsey hope you guys all get there soon too xx
Thank you for your service and your learning that you give everyone. Becky is it possible to make a baby book with embroidery on vinyal with a binding? I know didn't spell vinya correctly.
I looked too and thought it had an USB port so...I actually haven't received the sewing machine yet but in a couple days, I will, I'll double check. I asked the seller but hasn't responded yet. If it doesn't, I will return it and I'm going to get a Brother!!
I actually woke up in the middle of the night upset about this. It appears that the more recent models of the machine - still the ESG3, have a USB port (why would BL do that?). So unless you can lay eyes on the side of the actual machine, or get the seller to respond and actually know what they are talking about, then it's a crap shoot. Can you cancel the sale? If I recall the price was less than $1,000 so my guess is that is does not have a USB. Others on eBay are going for $1,400. Did you look at the accessories to see if it comes with a card? If so, then there's a hint at your answer, but some machines have slots for both. If it has a card only, then it might be worth investing in an adapter like this one to be able to save and transfer designs (if the machine's card will fit in the slot). amzn.to/2WITRN1 But I had a card at one time and it wouldn't fit in the adapter I had for a compact flash.
So glad to see you are enjoying your retirement. I love that birth announcement. I have a great-grandson coming at the end of January. Maybe I can borrow an embroidery machine from my friend. I'll have to save this tutorial to see if she will show me how. Thanks for posting. Stay safe, stay well.
I 😮love your ideas and tips I learn something new even when you are telling us how hard it was to retire with the government ( I thought I was the only one who had issues with documents/ forms etc needed to retire) Happy belated retirement thanks for all your fun ideas!
Boy, been there, done that. I have learned that you never leave an unclasped spool of thread anywhere near the flywheel of your machine. I think the air made by the spinning wheel sucks the thread right in. Mine made my machine run even when I took my foot off the pedal!
Hi Becky! I was wondering what the fabric is that you're using for the backing for your basket case quilt? And does it come in different colors? Thanks
Becky, I feel you! I retired in Jan 2010 FERS! It took 10 months to receive my first check! I called constantly, it didn’t help. Then in October when I got my first check it was discovered that the person doing my paperwork changed my heath care plan to one that was discontinued. The one that I had been using wasn’t getting paid. What a nightmare! Stick in there!
Did I miss who won the 3 Villa Rosa patterns? Please do the instructions on how you made the birth announcement. I am new to Embrilliance so more instructions would be great. All the paper work work to be retired will be so worth it!
I have the exact same machine, that happened to my 3 months ago. It took me forever to get the thread out of there too. I know there's still some thread in there. I wish knew how to get the hand wheel off so I can get all the tread out of there. When you were telling everyone about this mishap I thought I was the only one who had this happen, lesson learned do not put two spools of thread on the holders and start sewing.
Love your shirt. Where did you get it? I received the patterns and am excited to make one of them. Thank you. I need to get the pattern with the strips you are showing on this video. It looks like a great on to make my daughter.
I had the same thing happen to me with my old Juki. The thread got caught in the wheel. I now no longer put more than one thread on my machine at a time. I never could figure out how to take my machine apart to fix it. I now have a Brother and it is a work horse. I just wish it had a speed control. I have a lead foot. I hope you get all your retirement stuff figured out. I don't know why it has to be so difficult to do something that should be so simple.
Oh boy can I empathize with you about retirement. I studied retirement rules & prepped for months before turning in my paperwork. I called to inquire about the correct way to complete one of the forms prior to submitting it and I still had to re-do it once my caseworker received it. I guess it's like regulations...whomever reads the regulation interprets it in their own way and no two people seem to come to the same conclusion. I felt that I had my submission package perfectly completed and still had that snafu. Good luck is all I can say! You can expect to get your final annuity about 3 months after retirement. Be sure to create your OPM account once you get your CSA number. You can track the progress of your case once OPM receives it.
That's great advice! Thanks. I totally understand how to mess up those forms. "Do you want to have Option B if you are eligible?" Choices are: Yes, No, and I don't have Option B. My response, "No" bc I don't want Option B whether I'm eligible or not. Well, "No" was wrong and I should have chosen, "I don't have Option B". But I already told them 3 questions before that that I didn't have and don't want any of their insurance! Grrr. I have Tricare. (shakes head)...These people... :-)
Power Tools with Thread exact same thing happened to me! I don’t have/want Option B, so logically I said “no”. I guess I actually had 2 forms incorrect. Lol. Glad that’s behind me now. Enjoy watching your countdown clock. That was fun!
I had some thread in my hand wheel. It stopped my machine. Unfortunately I don’t know how to take the hand wheel apart or even if you can. That cost me $350 at the repair shop.
Retired from the Feds 5 years ago.....ugh.....you brought back those horrible memories of frustration with OPM. It should be easier but it will be worth it in the end; retirement is the best!
I felt your pain over the paper work, I'm Australian, and everything to do with government forms drive me crazy and banks too! They are all backwards, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, ha ha made me feel better you telling the off! I clicked to join your facebook group :) The little birth announcement is such a great gift!
I wouldn't think so. The Accuquilt is good if you're going to cut a million HSTs or a ton of other repetitive shapes. But for applique pieces that change with each project, you won't need an Accuquilt. I've thought about getting one but realized I'd never use it.
Becky, I plan to retire in 9 months and I hope my process will go well. Thank you for enlightening me of possible snags in the process. Also you mentioned ordering Vintage Christmas from Connecting Threads. I too ordered it. It is a delightful Lori Holt book with all kinds of adorable blocks to make quilts and projects. I ordered it because I am interested in the “ Bringing Home the Christmas Tree” quilt. So many fun possibilities in this book. 😊
I was watching one of your past videos and you mentioned making the "Esther the Easter chicken" Did you ever get around to do it? and if so did you do a videos of it. Everything will work out with your retirement papers. They should have an office on site for you to go into to get your retirement set up. Sometimes you wonder if the left hand knows what they right hand is doing. Have a Bless Day!
I also just retired from federal government. & had similar problems took me months to do this. I was assigned to a fed retirement agent & could not even get a response until I sent msg to him, his boss & my bosses. They told me he had computer issues & was away. So difficult. Glad I am done.
Your thread mess sounds like something that would happen to me. My husband saw me on the computer this morning and said “you’ve been on the computer a lot lately. I better not see any packages coming in”. As if. 🤣 I had them shipped to my old work address and will pick them up when I go in this and next Wednesday. 🤣🙄🤣
your rant reminds me of dealing with verizon. I'm logged into my account with my id and password and yet they still have no idea who I am and cannot provide any service to me. I feel your pain.
Sorry, just seeing this comment. I don't have a problem with demo models so long as the online activation card has been disassociated from their account (if they ever activated it) and make sure it is included in the purchase. $550? Make sure it's the Disney and comes with the vinyl roller.
Becky you really need to thank god about wet signatures, I come from UK and we are the same over wet signatures, a pain they are but they are still the only thing that keeps you totally safe and leagle.. I did feel for you as we all have gone through that sort of thing. I know the gov security should be 100% but everything can be Hacked, you must know that in your business, some little geek somewhere will find a way sooner or later. If its electronic its hackerble . A wet signature is your safety net.
Yea I lovemybretirement. It was a lot easier. But shortly after I retired the hospital sent out early retirement over 60 yo. That included doctors and managers, you would think with this virus going around, they wouldnt do that kind of cr***. Where did you get your ruler rack on the wall? I so need one like that
Really? I looked at reviews on that machine and thought that it did. The Ellageo ESG3 has a USB port and the 6x10 hoop (link below). Isn't that what you got? I would have never said OK if I didn't read it had a USB. It's impossible to find a photo of that machine from the side where you can see if it has a USB and I normally pull Brother manuals from their site for free but Baby Lock wants $12.99 for the manual so I couldn't look at it. I'm never recommending a Baby Lock machine ever again. I'm glad you can return it. Do yourself a favor and buy a Brother. Baby Lock and Brother are made in the same factory and Brother is less than half the cost. sewing.patternreview.com/review/machine/2106
Awww, I feel bad about bothering you, actually! I laid up in bed thinking about it and I had read that the newer versions of the SAME machine have it like you had found out so I was hoping it does, but I don't think so, and, like you, I thought why would BL do that? ugh.. the seller hasn't responded yet, very annoying! No card and no mention of anything. I was looking at the same machine on Pinterest and a few show the side and no USB port, so you think I could get an adapter, I could try that?!
You gotta love the government!! NOT! I know someone who put a full bobbin up in the little area on the right of the Desnity embroidery sewing machine. It did the same thing. She had to have it repaired!😖
@@PowerToolsWithThread I returned it! And looking at a Baby Lock Elegante for $1600 in mint condition? What are your thoughts? I don't see anything else right now except a Brother 4500d Duetta for $1695 but local pick-up only in Edmond, OK, which is 5 hours from me, not bad...apparently in good condition.
@@vickijeanne9958 I paid $2500 for my Ellegante 2 several years ago so $1600 is within market range I suppose. The USB memory transfer on it is slllloow. But it works. It does not have a camera system however so you'll have to hoop the old fashioned way. But its a good machine. It might be worth the drive for the Duetta. Look at these manuals to see if a camera option is included in an upgrade. support.brother.com/g/b/manualtop.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hf_inov4500deus
@@vickijeanne9958 Yay! That would have been my choice too. I think the Duetta was made after the Ellegante so you'll have better technology for less cost than the Ellegante.
Recommendation: take them to your local personnel office and go over the form...before you submit. If not, it can be rejected. Welcome to the government reitrement ...
I wish I COULD! I even work on the base where the office is and I'm not allowed to hand carry anything there. No one is! I'm even their Cybersecurity Officer and I can't hand carry anything there. It's CRAZY!
@@PowerToolsWithThread Sorry to hear that. Here at Patuxent River I went to a retirement class, and during the presentation, the local guy was there. He gave us his email and phone. Both my husband and I sat down with him before we submitted out paper work. Sometimes DoD is its own enemy. I will tell you once you get all the paperwork done, it is pretty smooth sailing. Another recommendation: check all your insurances, leave (sick and annual), and it will take OPM 30 days to get all your paperwork together. You will get a boatload of paperwork in the mail, just check it over and get your account setup for your retirement account with OPM once you get your ID number. But all in all. Well worth it.
I am in for the birth announcement....i am sewing on a Bernina...are you familar with the hoop sizes to match with the brother.....because bernina's have rounded corners not square
Retirement paperwork. Good luck. You know how we Feds do. You’re supposed to get someone assigned to you to help you then at least it would save you some stress and time.
Be careful. They “helped” my husband fill out his form regarding his and my life insurance policies and told him wrong. We now have no life insurance policies and he was unable to go back and fix it........
I recently retired from the Fed gov and had no problem. What does your HE people do? Your base should have a skeleton crew at least and mail your paperwork at their expense, not yours. Good luck on your retirement, I'm loving mine, and I enjoyed my job!we
As a federal employee myself, I can appreciate your frustration. Congratulations on your retirement!!!!
Becky, I want to thank you for all your years of service to our nation.
My absolute honor and pleasure! Thank you!
You sound so frustrated. Don't blame you. Thank you for sharing with us your sewing friends.
Love your tutorials

It's all most as bad with county!! Had to send stuff 3 times!
I just ordered the birth announcement from JuJu can't wait for you to have a RUclips on it : ) Good Luck on your retirement. Enjoy!!! Keep Sewing!
Vintage Christmas is Lori Holt's book. The one that Pat Sloan is using for the tree quilt.

hi there, happy retirement , and thanks for the sun glasses felt better.have a lot of TLC.
It's ok Becky,so uh being off helps...like the pressure lever on your pressure cooker....I have to let off stem at times too..Tennessee

Thank you for being Human! When I retired from teaching I had the same problem. Government should be run by Women.
Becky.... can you do a tutorial on the birth announcement?
Love your videos!! 1 yr ago you showed a cross body bag That I loved but can' find it on Sweet Pea designs. Please help??
Coming soon!

Love your shirt. Where did you get it? I received the patterns and am excited to make one of them. Thank you. I need to get the pattern with the strips you are showing on this video. It looks like a great on to make my daughter.
Yay! I got my shirt on Amazon. I forgot to mention you were the winner of the patterns! Sorry! My retirement rant took over. lol
I had the same thing happen to me with my old Juki. The thread got caught in the wheel. I now no longer put more than one thread on my machine at a time. That thread thing happened to me too. It is still in there, because I do not know how to open it up. I pulled as much as I could out.
Hang in there!!
Can you please make a video on the birth announcement that you showed. I am new to your channel. Thank you
Yes I will

I did that exact thing with the thread getting wrapped around the hand wheel. Had to take the end off. Won't do that again.
Becky the 26 .00 price that you talked about for vintage Christmas it's a book I think. I really love your site I'm learning a lot.
Yep, it is Lori Holt's book! I totally forgot. :-)
OH, the forms.....argh!!!!
Hi from SC! What fabric did you use in that quilt? It's so pretty. I'd love to know what it is.
I had some thread in my hand wheel. It stopped my machine. Unfortunately I don’t know how to take the hand wheel apart or even if you can. That cost me $350 at the repair shop.
when are you doing the phone case sewalong?
Oh it won't be a sew along. It will just be a tutorial. You can watch it over and over. But I should get it out this week.
Retired from the Feds 5 years ago.....ugh.....you brought back those horrible memories of frustration with OPM. It should be easier but it will be worth it in the end; retirement is the best!
Becky don't you go to your social security office we do in NC they take care of you very well. Love watching you.
If I have the Brother Scan N Cut, I won't need to buy the Accuquilt, correct?
RIGHT! It's the book by Lori Holt! I love that quilt too - there's a sew along with Pat Sloan starting in late August. :) Thank you!
Congratulations on your retirement.
That happened to me with the handwheel 🐴
So I'm in good company! LOL
I worked for a county government and it wasn't much better when I retired. Still glad I retired.😊
No, I never got around to Esther. I need to do that! lol Unfortunately, there is not an office. Everything is on line. :-(
I also just retired from federal government. & had similar problems took me months to do this. I was assigned to a fed retirement agent & could not even get a response until I sent msg to him, his boss & my bosses. They told me he had computer issues & was away. So difficult. Glad I am done.
So many things don’t make sense these days! So many hoops to jump through!
Just retired from fed gov too. More time to sew and watch your Vlogs. LOL. Interested in the unique sayings on your t-shirts.
Congrats on your retirement! 16 more duty days for me. Yay! I love wearing shirts with sayings on them. :) I get most from FB or quilt shops.
your rant reminds me of dealing with verizon. I'm logged into my account with my id and password and yet they still have no idea who I am and cannot provide any service to me. I feel your pain.
I was fers but didnt have any problem when I retired 3 years ago. Sorry for that for you!
Quick question. Is $550 a good price for a demo model of the SNC225 and would you purchase the demo model?
Sorry, just seeing this comment.
I don't have a problem with demo models so long as the online activation card has been disassociated from their account (if they ever activated it) and make sure it is included in the purchase. $550? Make sure it's the Disney and comes with the vinyl roller.
Wait until you retire, get your access code for your OPM account and you try to log in there! It will take about a month before you can access that!!!
Ha ha. You mean the fun never ends? lol
glad got a video up for get bath dont want miss your video i love it hugs from pam
I just LOVED your reply! Too sweet!
Are you on terminal leave already? If not how do you find the time to sew! Work is in my way 🤣
I'm a civilian so we don't have terminal leave like the active duty folks. I just do 15 mins here and there and before I know it, I'm done!
Thankfully it doesn't cost us £15 each time to send registered/recorded.
I’m sorry you had trouble with your paperwork. I retired FERS without a hitch. Postal service.
“IT’S THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT “!!!!!
Yea I lovemybretirement. It was a lot easier. But shortly after I retired the hospital sent out early retirement over 60 yo. That included doctors and managers, you would think with this virus going around, they wouldnt do that kind of cr***.
Where did you get your ruler rack on the wall? I so need one like that
My son is going to start making these ruler racks I think. My husband made this one. Take care!
@@PowerToolsWithThread What would it cost me to have them make one?
No, I am returning it!
FERS started in 1985, some time ago.😜
Geez, I'm old. lol
Always remove the extra spool or tidy it up. Learned this from an expert serger expert.
NOOOW you tell me! LOL (just kidding!)
Your paperwork probably had you sidetracked and the thread took advantage.
Hi
OMG, I had bought the Baby Lock Ellageo 3 and am returning it, it doesn't have a USB port, yuck....

I'll let seller know if it doesn't have the USB port, and I have to buy the adapter, and if it doesn't work, I am returning it.
So how did that all turn out?
@@PowerToolsWithThread I am going to buy the Duetta! I lost out on one before, so now's my chance! Ha!
@@vickijeanne9958 Yay! That would have been my choice too. I think the Duetta was made after the Ellegante so you'll have better technology for less cost than the Ellegante.
Love you but I did have to fast forward it a little bit.
Ahhhh Government paperwork! UGH. My dad had issues with paperwork when he retired after 20 years with Military.
I am in for the birth announcement....i am sewing on a Bernina...are you familar with the hoop sizes to match with the brother.....because bernina's have rounded corners not square
@@sugarmoser6892 No sorry. Not familiar with a Bernina. I have a Luminaire and Dream Weaver.
Retirement paperwork. Good luck. You know how we Feds do. You’re supposed to get someone assigned to you to help you then at least it would save you some stress and time.
HA! Someone assigned to me. You're a riot!! ROFL :-D
Be careful. They “helped” my husband fill out his form regarding his and my life insurance policies and told him wrong. We now have no life insurance policies and he was unable to go back and fix it........
And we wonder why the govt is like it is ha. So glad I am retired after you get through it whew 😄😄☺️💞💞
I recently retired from the Fed gov and had no problem. What does your HE people do? Your base should have a skeleton crew at least and mail your paperwork at their expense, not yours. Good luck on your retirement, I'm loving mine, and I enjoyed my job!we
I feel for you and sending 3 or more times and to pay 3 times.
"Like money grows on trees!" lol
You are lucky that machine did not break down.
I think I used wrong name. Forgive me. Hope to see you again soon.
