I make these but do a few things differently…a) take a bowl and do an indent 1/4 circle on one side so they sit better on your shoulder and cover more b) add another layer of flannel or old towel in between to absorb the spit up so it doesn’t soak through And c) run a couple of diagonal cross stitches across the whole item to help it, stay together during the wash and not need to be ironed
@@maryackermann came across a few other videos in the meantime and they said as long as you quilt the layers, you can use the cotton batting, but I found a much better design
These are the most requested item moms-to-be make to me. They get way softer the more they are washed. Every new baby gets their own bunch of these. I also make a larger and manly burp cloth for the Dad. It's often a sport or team theme and I call it a "murp" for man size burp cloth. It's wrapped as a gift for Dad at the shower. Always well received. 😊
I have made flannel burp cloths and new mom’s appreciate them. As a Grandma, it is nice to have a couple at my house also. Another Mommy favorite gift I make is Self binding receiving blankets. I also make these out if flannel and then make burp cloths to match. I look forward to more Mommy /Baby gift ideas.
I collected a BUNCH of flannel FQ bundles long ago and just never found a pattern for them that I like - till now! Thank you! My Dorcas quilt group will certainly be able to use them to donate into the community!
Ohh my gosh, that is the perfect little project for a baby shower. It's inexpensive, it's fast, it's adorable, and, perhaps most fun of all, it gives me a reason to buy lots of adorable little baby flannel fat quarter bundles that I don't really need but I would like to sew with. I mean even if I don't have baby showers to go to right now, there are always lots of places to donate that kind of small useful item. Thanks very much for the very useful and informative tutorial!😊
I remember making these many years ago with more of an hourglass shape. I often paired the burb cloth with a bib for a quick and easy baby gift. Job well done on the tutorial! 💜
Cotton fabric or flannel on the top with towelling from a thin bath towel at the back works well and is very absorbent. These fabrics work well with bibs too.
Kimberly!!! These are the perfect little gift! The receptionist at my dental office is having a baby boy and I have been racking my brain on what to get her, just a little something. This is truly a great and perfect gift for any new mommy! Thank you also for stocking the flannel fat quarter bundle! Can't wait to receive the flannel, sew them and present to her as a surprise!
💖💖💖💖💖 your burp cloths !!! I love to make them along with a baby quilt that I made for the new mom and baby !!! I am always a hit at baby showers ❣️👍🏿🙌🏼👊👏🏿 thank you for your video !! Thank you for sharing and caring 💙🎈❣️💕❤️😇😎
Love the tutorial! We just found out Grand Baby number 9 is coming this fall! I will definitely be making some of these and I'm VERY excited to see more baby projects coming!
I would prewash my flannel prior to making the burp cloth since flannel does shrink. I’d hate for my burb cloth to look wonky after washing it once it is finished.
I just made 10 of these for my soon to be born grandson's baby shower (you can never have too many) using that same fabric. I did add two lines of stitching down the long length to hold everything together nicely after washing.
Thank you! I needed this last summer for a gift. It’s similar to how I made mine, except I serged all the edges. Super quick. I’ll try the rounded corners next time. 😊
I made some before with a towel on the back and flannel on the front but they were awful thick. I think this might be a better option. Thanks for the great tutorial!!
I am making a baby box for all my grandkids so that when they have kids they'll have a box from Nana, whether I'm around or not. Have you considered a waterproof element, like PLU, to serve as a barrier in-between the layers of flannel?
I like to add a piece of cotton batting inside my burpcloths. It makes them more absorbent.

Have you ever tried to put batting in burp cloth? That was my first thought when watching this video. Thanks!
@@maryackermann did you ever try that I’m going to be making some the next couple of days
@@dcwatashi no, I haven’t tried it yet, my grandchildren are out of burp cloth age. Have to wait for a new one to come along.

Our local Ronald McDonald house appreciates bibs and burp cloths and our Guild donates them. So easy to make! Thanks for the tutorial! 💕🧵
That's such a great idea! Our guild makes baby blankets for our local pregnancy center, that would be so cute to add a couple of matching burp cloths.
I put Teri cloth in between. And my quilting gloves come in handy. 😊

Super cute. No stress. For clipping inside the corners, I use pinking shears
Your teaching style is great Kimberly thx so much
This is a cute little burp cloth and the flannel is adorable. I love how you round the corners on the burp cloth.
Loved your hand corner trick. So simple and easy!
Thank you for the tutorial, they look easier than the ones that im making!
Never realized it could be so easy

I made some today for my friend who just had a baby! Thanks Kimberly.

I need to make some of these right now!
Love this and can’t wait to give it a go. I love the topstitch. What a fun, quick project!
I have been making these for years for all my grandkids and any baby showers I go to.

Thank you for such a useful and easy baby gift tutorial! You and Fat Quarter Shop are simply the best!
I use diaper fabric for one side. More absorbent.
Thanks for the baby projects! Timely as I have been a grandmother for 10 days! :)
Congratulations!
Sew precious 💕
Great demo, Kimberly. Thank you!!! Very useful.

Love this!!! So easy & would be great for gifts.
I made these type burp cloths a couple years ago for a new Mommy. She loved them. So easy to make. Thanks for the reminder to make these. Hugs! 💕🧵
So excited to have a baby shower in May so lots of time, lol
Super cute idea, love it.
Sew cute, thanks for all you do.
I'm not a Grandma yet but I'm really close!😊 So I really love the idea of making gifts for the baby.
I buy flannel for boys and girls when it's on sale. That way I can always make a quick gift to add for new baby.
Great idea for using flannel. Thanks😊
Love the tutorial! We just found out Grand Baby number 9 is coming this fall! I will definitely be making some of these and I'm VERY excited to see more baby projects coming!

Congratulations! So lucky to have so many ❤
Makes me wish I still had baby showers to go to. So simple.
I love and great giftd❤
Thank you so much for this video. I found some fabric in my stash yesterday and now it has a purpose.
I love the baby projects! Thank you! So cute.
Awesome! Great tutorial. Thanks so much
Such cute fabric
Looking forward to making these for our pregnancy help center! Thanks!
Thanks...i love those...perfect for a baby shower

Me too.

Great idea!
Very cute
Great tutorial! If you are not starting with fat quarters, what are the measurements for each burp cloth?
Hello Linda! We only tested this with fat quarters so we do not have additional measurements.
I am making a baby box for all my grandkids so that when they have kids they'll have a box from Nana, whether I'm around or not. Have you considered a waterproof element, like PLU, to serve as a barrier in-between the layers of flannel?
That's a great idea! We haven't considered it but that is a great idea.
❤❤❤
Love it! Could you tell me the size? I have lots of flannel scraps.
a fat quarter is 18 x 20-22 inches. So I'd cut them 9 x 20
Good morning
Do you prewash the flannel? I found when prewashing the flannel doesn’t look as nice
Hello raggedyanna! No, Kimberly does not prewash flannel.
Hi, what are the measurements of fabric please?
A fat quarter typically measures about 18 by 22 inches.
Fat quarters measure 18" x 22"
fabric type?
Hello Aswinss! The fabric used is flannel.

Thank you for these fabulous videos! I love to make gifts!!!
