      I gave your comment some thought and concluded that it doesn't make a difference for me. Whether the old smuggler was emphasizing Jon Snow's low status by society's values or simply emphasizing the irony of Snow becoming king of anything, it is evident that Ser Davos was committed to the "King In the North." We know Davos was not easily impressed by anyone and not inclined to cast his lot with just anyone. And in his passion, he was defending his king. That's what I got from this.

    Now... come meet my three dragons, but don't worry about me, I can't be harmed by fire and I'm destined to rule the world.

      I hear you, but let's be fair, no doubt that nobodies like Janos Slynt would be cynical and in the dark.
      However let's not forget that the likes of Varys and Tywin not only acknowledged the return of dragons and such, but they publicly stated and discussed it.
      Even almost all of the Northern Lords and many of their people still acknowledged the previous existence of White Walkers.
      So those that mattered knew. So it should've still be an acknowledged potential threat.
      Janos didn't matter so he didn't know.

    The actor who plays John Snow does a great job in portraying him. As Sir Davos lists off his accomplishments, John stands there in humbled silence and actually looking out into the void briefly realizing the weight he has carried for years. Still likely shocked that he did all those things and for a second there, you can see the weight he still carries because the entire North relies on him. Sir Davos also does a great job in demonstrating something what true leadership is. Sir Davos reminds the audience and informs Deneres that he has no birth-right. He's a bastard to both House Stark and House Targarian. But his resilience and integrity and character is what got him to where he is. Denaris was given her titles, some she did earn, but John Snow fought hard for his.
    Subjects will obey a ruler. People will follow a leader.

    I relate so much to Ser Davos. In the beginning he merely introduces Jon as “the king of the north” lol he was put on the spot and formalities are not really his thing but it’s not until he feels it in his gut..the desire to protect, defend and stand up for what’s true and what’s right and what he believes in. Davos is a passionate man. And when he originally met Jon I don’t think he was even the Lord Commander of the Night Watch yet..so in the short time that he knew him he saw Jon prove so much and you can see how all of that really impressed Davos. That along with all the other scripts written of his life from areas that were very unlikely able to communicate with one another make it more likely he existed and did the things that were written than not.

    I just realized Ser Davos is almost a direct opposite to Ser Jaime. Hear me out. Jaime served the Mad King, and when he went too far, Jaime was the one to break his oath and put a sword through his back. On the other hand, Ser Davos believes Stannis has gone down the wrong path. Stannis has done terrible things like kill Shireen. Even when Stannis imprisoned Ser Davos, he was still as loyal as ever. Ser Davos is loyal, kind, caring, loving. He genuinely has a heart of gold. But even then he couldn’t break an oath to Stannis. More rambling and another comparison. Ser Davos and The Hound are both men who follow their leader to a T, even if they’re asked to do something terrible or foolish. The difference is that Davos is just… a good person. Very succinct I know. But just some ideas I had. Always loved Davos, even when he felt Stannis was straight up evil he served him because he took an oath. I’m so glad Stannis is dead so Davos can have a good leader like Jon lol.

      That last part of your comment...I never viewed it that way! Brienne of Tarth is similar...she just wanted to serve someone loyally who was worth the honor.

  • @DrakeyC
    @DrakeyC Месяц назад

    As iconic as this line is, it also underscores one of the major issues of the show AND the books - the White Walker/Others plot is an existential threat to the entire realm and maybe the world, and the politicking and scheming and wars fought among the Seven Kingdoms isn't going to mean a damn thing to them. Aside from the fact the Night King doesn't exist in the books, it's not like the White Walkers are gonna sit down to a peace talk and negotiate terms. That's what we like about the books and the show, the talking scenes, the policking, but the White Walkers don't feed into that kind of storyline.
    I dunno how the books will handle this disconnect, but I can only see one of two things happening - the White Walker plotline will end up taking a backseat to what I'll broadly refer to as the Iron Throne plotline (that being the plotlines concerning who'll end up sitting it), or vice-versa. Either the focus will be on defeating the White Walkers to focus on the throne, or claiming the throne to unit the realm against the walkers. The only out is if the two goals are made as one by the walkers being a threat to King's Landing itself, but given how much of Westeros they'd have to march through to get there, that seems unlikely.
