Yep exact same bike color mine with Kerker. Absolutely a beast as far as eating up miles on the interstate and plenty of power even today to comfortably pass just about anything on the road. One of the best bikes I've had for sure ❤
looks like you will be busy for a few months.makes life a little easier when you can start with such a nice rolling chassis.looking forward to seeing your progress.am sure it will be a rewarding process for us & yourself.
Hi Jon, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this Zed. Do yourself a favour with those rusted bolts. Find a person who does at a min, cad plating/anodising. That way your bolts will come back to you looking like factory and they shouldn't rust. Its not an expensive way to restore them, smaller bolts would cost here in AU approx 20c ea and the bigger axle and engine bolts would cost up to $1 If you want to go one step higher, get some of the bolts satin chromed and the appropriate ones full gloss chromed. To clean up a rusty bolt at home will look ok till it rusts again and you will constantly be cleaning them up with a metal polish. Easy part of your basket case is that the motors are complete. Nothing like buying one in bits and needing to replace what is worn or damaged to get it running. At least you can get busy polishing the ali covers on the engine before putting it back into the frame. Don't forget the cam ends to polish too if you do decide it needs it. Here is a chance to try a set of Hagon rear shocks. I think you would find them better and more durable than the Progressive ones you get in the states
@@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 this one is very nice, but still priced too high, unless someone just wants to collect bikes, and or ride it around town.
Hi Jon can you explain why you go up one size on main jet and up one size on pilot jet please I have a 1982kz1000ltd dosent like to start when cold would going up one size on jets help with that thank you
Sure Mark. I changed jetting to match the exhaust/airbox setup. Going one size up from stock on the pilots should help with cold starting especially if you are running a non-stock exhaust. I would recommend running about 3 turns out on your air-fuel mixture screws as well.
This is your personal Holy Graille. Really jumping in with both feet on this one.
Yeah I've wanted one of these most of my adult life! I'm super excited to get it out on the road and a bit overwhelmed.

Awesome, that's great to hear! I'm working on it currently and can't wait to get it out on the road!

Right on! Great suggestions all around.
gd vid again jon, looking forwaeds to seeing how you get them roadworthy...........i rebuilt my bike took time and cash but did it all myself.
Thanks David! I'm hoping that this one doesn't take too much cash.
Just yesterday while riding, i saw one of these for sale, 1980 version. Unfortunately it was at a car dealership, and it is priced kinda high.
They are hard to get at a good deal if they are in decent condition (and sometimes even when they're not).
