He highly doubted that Nirvana would have continued, I think they would release one last album in 1995 and by 1996 they would no longer be together. The only thing that would have happened is that the debut of Foo fighters would be delayed and would come out until 1997 or 1998

I'm 44- nirvana was my favorite band starting in 7th grade in 1991 before I had any idea what they even were...it was just "heavy metal skater music" to me then. My whole life, people have asked me what if He had not died. But here's the thing- something's exist in a second, like a flash of lightening, or butterflies that die right after breeding. Nirvana was one of those once in maybe a billion moments that happened and was over before anywbody coyote even really process it. In my eyes, that person, and that band, that moment, was one of the most beautiful things I was alive for, but doomed from day one. It's like that song "Vincent" says "But I could have told you Vincent this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you."

Well the other truth is that Dave grohl was so damn jealous of kurts ease and little effort at making his music and it just being a magical success . People , I think ,velieved that nirvanas sound was pouring out of Kurt like an avalanche of effortless magic and the integrity that Kurt got that truth be told none of the three thought there would really ever be such a ridL wave of success because of the few things 5hat were happening at the exact right time , i.e. the sound was completely foreign to listeners and as luck would have it Kurt would not only be the front man of the band but also the spear head of a completely new sound that was perfectly played at the right time and Dave has seemed to have always been that guy who was always trying to be something other than what he was supposed to be and was getting paid to do exactly what he was hired to do . He was in the back ground squirming with discomfort and jealousy and just bashing his teeth in resentments that grew on a daily basis as Dave sat in his lil stool in the background and saw that every one was enamored by what Kurt was doing . He started to really hate Kurt even tho he was so jealous he was like a little kid who was drowning in envy and was just constantly keeping Kurt on a competitive and loosely anxious status throughout 5he whole experience constantly practically begging to come up front with Kurt and if at all possible take over . But the real nirvana fans who were following them from city to city show after show show to see this humble but completely aware of the talent and aware of the strange thing that was occuring in regards to the punk scene and listener and that if truth be told was loosely played in a way that more than just the punk scenester could Appreciate. The metal folk could love the sound that was raw and less produced and more authentic than the metal heads were used to at all enjoying . Furthermore , I was in the Houston punk scene and grunge punk was just a really magical time and there was an excitement about the new sound that hung around also . Dave grohl just couldn't and shouldn't have even kept goin when he realized that he was not the singer nor would he ever be nor ever really be respected for trying because this band and the sound and all was complete and would never be anything else but Kurt and Kris secret authentic parents to it all and Dave was still in the back ground with all his dreams and hopes to be a rock star and popular and famous and head honcho . He was said to have been fuckin Courtney on the cool also prolly out of spite and also prolly cuz it wasn't hard to get Courtney either and there are faint whispers and some mysterious anomalies that didn't sit right in the "suicide " investigation ... It seemed to almost smell slightly of Courtney and Dave kinda working in the back ground maybe spurring and so e how even bringing the right stuff to Kurt at the right or wrong times almost I'm hopes to just think he could take over and be just fine and just as loved and admired as this true moody punk
rock icon like Kurt was . But we all know the truth of that .. because as soon as he could ol drummer Dave was out front as soon as he could and just as we all used to say ,that Dave would never really be authentic punk royalty because he was a good drummer but would never allow himself to be just the good drummer . So it came to pass and he became what we knew he d be which was a very candy pop rocker of very significant mediocre affair . But hey , what do any of us really know of the real shit goin down in that van . Ol Dave loved and adored his mentor and teacher of all things authentic and real

Agreed. Kurt was in hell between 1993 and 1994. Had he still been alive they would've toured In Utero until early 1995 then announced a "break". The Foo Fighters maybe would've debuted in 1995 the way it did in our reality. Grunge was dead by the early 2000s so maybe they would've toured the 10 year box set and split again until the 2010s to do a really shitty album but done a massive 20th anniversary Nevermind tour.

Not sure about that, as they were trapped with the label in a contract and they had to complete a certain amount of shows. There's a couple of scenarios that could have been at play for me. Kurt hated that tour, he'd had enough and the drugs helped him through it. I get the feeling that Kurt would rather be away in an Island with the love of his life taking up gardening. I personally think he was about to divorce his wife and she's like a silent sleeper assassin who's possibly offed a more than one person in her life. I think Kurt was afraid of his wife and his record label. It's possible the record label felt betrayed by Kurt because he didn't want to complete the tour which meant they'd lose millions. The other scenario is that he faked his death and is now living another life elsewhere. It's possible because none of his close people around him looked that sad after his supposed death. And the fact is that he was worth a lot more dead than alive. David Bowie faked his own death and then he appeared on Sky News the following day dressed up as a different character and Sky News were clearly in on it.
This is a warning to never believe anything you see on the news, they're fcking devil worshipping lying manipulators. Didn't Prince accept some sort of an award dressed up as his sister? Prince another devil who knew that by faking his death he'd earn a fortune. Didn't Michael Jackson appear on CNN after his death as a freak type character? I'm pretty sure there's a video of Tupac running around some concert after his supposed death. I guy claimed to be Jim Morrison up in one of those southern states who's now living on a ranch.

I think had Kurt survived he would have decided to take a couple of years off to get his head right.
In the meanwhile the other three nirvana members would record the foo fighters material. Dave might do the drums and get a touring drummer in for live shows.
Then after the colour and the shape album they all talk about what's next.
The first two foos albums were essentially all Dave's work so imagine the first two albums would sound similar.
Pat left around the time of the second foos album and maybe this would be when there would be a slot for Kurt to come back and form a hybrid arrangement which played both band's work.
Though it's hard to imagine Kurt wanting to be a rhythm guitarist, laying a foundation for Dave however.

There is no doubt in my mind that if Kurt was still alive, that nirvana would cease to exist or the very least be put on a long hiatus. Dave growl success with the foo fighters is quite evident, whether if Kurt was still alive. In a parallel universe, Kurt would still be alive, healthy and clean and divorced from Courteney love with zero contact snd he would of been prolific with other music projects and believe that he and Dave would of worked on some musical projects that would of been massive. 🙏 Kurt

When a band suddenly becomes huge, like Nirvana did, they are no longer a band, they become more of a brand, and some leaders of band let producers, record companies or other people in charge make decisions, but someone like Kurt that wanted to keep hold of his brand, basically became the CEO of Nirvana, and had to make the decisions for Nirvana, and i think it became too much, especially having a headstrong wife like Courtney that was always telling him what next step he should take for himself... well more like for herself! But Kurt listened to her, plus drugs divided everything too... it was just too much pressure! The band had to cool down a bit and take a break... but it was too late, Kurt died! I agree that I don't think Dave would still be in Nirvana if the band still existed. He didn't secretly record things behind Kurt's back like the video seems to imply. Kurt didn't know he was doing the recording but as soon as he was done with the demo he showed it to Kurt while he was in a bathtub and he kissed Dave and said they were great. There is even a couple songs off the demo Kurt wanted to make into Nirvana songs but he was afraid to ask Dave if he could change the lyrics lol. As Krist has said in many interviews that Kurt in 1993 was not the same person he was even a year earlier and he was out of his mind which i completely believe. Comments about firing Dave and not being excited about working together and collaborating more have to be taken with a grain of salt when you consider WHEN in time he said those things and what else was going on. This was a very impaired person saying things he probably didn't mean. They brought Dave into the band because he was such a good drummer and he helped make them what they were by being creative and using his "style" - It's hard for me to believe that an unimpaired person in the same situation would have anything negative say about Dave's drumming at all. You can't ask for much better, further lending credence to Kurt's state of mind when he said these things. I just think Dave would have wanted to pursue his own musicial ideas eventually, i doubt, after looking back on all he has done, you can see he could keep all that talent in the can and sit behind the drumset for Nirvana forever. It could have even been an admirable disengagement depending on if Kurt was still using. I'd like to think there would have been a Nirvana/Foo Fighters tour at some point. We'll never know however.

If Kurt had lived? We will never know that will we? Just an opinion from an old guy, who was there to see it all..And I like the Foo Fighters, but I loved Nirvana and that’s something Dave can’t understand to this day, jealousy…he just wasn’t Kurt..

I say this also yo ppl who wasnt teens or very close to teen years back in 90s. We couldnt get music easily. We had to go to mall, revord store, Ames, Big Wheel, etc to get tapes. Or get through mail for a penny. We had no internet. We listened to radio for hours just to hear our favorite song, we couldnt skip ads, commercials. Youd call in to radio, ask yo play a song theb sit and listen to see if they did. Music sucked bad. It was all about being famous, $$, and being treated like a STAR. 1 day here comes Smells like teen spirit. We was amazed hearing this music 1st time. I still feel this way bout Grunge. We saw Mtv with GnR, Poison, etc all about women being sex objects, men dressed in tights wearing makeup and ling teased hair, kinda like today 🤣. Hers guys who dont care about looks, cars, women and care about music. It was really a exciting time in music hearing all these bands, songs for 1st time ever. It was the best time for rock n roll. Gen x had their Elvis. But it was not a long ride. When he died it really killed, like him, the music. Im pretty sure he said hed like to grow old and play shows like Cash did. He loved the band and music. He hated the Business. He spoke about it alot. When u love doing something creative and its liked by many then ppl take it and make it a commodity, he wasnt having fun any more. It was so many from his own wife to gild moutain yo geffen whi cared not about his mental health, his drug issue, HIS band, or his happiness. They only cared about that nect check. If they wouldve given him 6 months or more off to get divorce as ge was trying to do, get clean and start fresh, hed be here. Nut he was a singing ATM worth more dead than alive. He leaves band and all from Wife to David geffen loses alot of $$ or he dies while on top and they keep that Cobain cash forever. Geffen hated In Utero cause is wasnt Nevermind 2. They cared about Mtv and radio time. It wasnt that. It was the best album for fans not for owners. They ran that man to the ground. They worked hin to death. He was really a great poet. I miss him alot. He helped me through alot if darkness as a young kid going through alot with parents divorce, losing a sibling, abuse, etc. Musics a powerful drug that can do alot of good. Im glad so many get to enjoy Kurt, Layne, Chris poetry. It was a great time to be alive, music, movies and Tv was really good. Now its whatever. We need another Cobain.

Dave would still leave and create his band, unless Kurt would learn to communicate.
Kurt also had trouble writing heart shaped box and was hoping Krist and Dave will come forward to contribute more (and considering before Kurt would come to them with a song ready or a riff to jam on, no wonder they would be adamant to suddenly contribute more to songwriting). In an interview with Ringo Starr, Dave said how he had a fight with someone over songwriting credit, because that person didn't believe writing drum parts was enough. (makes you wonder, at which point was it enough for Kurt?)
Dave talked how there was no reassurance with Krist and Kurt and he felt expendable. Joining the band so late, he didn't have that connection.
When he formed Foos, he told his new bandmates "we're gonna talk shit out". Everything there lacked in Nirvana, he made sure they had in Foos, and that's how they are still going today.
Though, I like to think in some another universe nirvana had a come back where perhaps Dave joined them back instead of going on tour with qotsa.

Probably every so often Nirvana would have got back together for a few reunion shows. Dave would have for sure at some point in the late 90’s formed the foo Fighters. But probably the lineup would have been different. Kurt and Krist probably would not be doing very much in the music biz. Aldo Kurt would not be married still to Courtney.

I think if Kurt never committed suicide, the band would go on a permanent hiatus after Kurt is found alive after being missing. Dave uses this as an opportunity to record the Foo Fighters debut album, feeling like Nirvana was over already whatsoever. Its still released in 1995 with Nate, William, and maybe Pat joining. Kurt decides to record the next Nirvana album, and both him and Dave get into conflict over Foo Fighters, because of Kurt feeling betrayed and upset that the drummer left again. This conflict would just be similar to the feud between John Lennon and Paul McCartney

There's def a difference between the way Cobain and Grohl write; I can relate, having been in several similar bands.Grohl was important because he was more of a straightforward if technically capable player that made the songs more instantly accessible.
Idiosyncracy was important to Cobain; he threw in structural obstacles for the sake of seeing how they played out.
I like the FF , but I don't really repeatedly listen; DG has a formulaic and predictable way of creating compositions.Cobain wasn't always successful in his experiments, but at least they were usually interesting, and from the point of view of a musician, worth figuring out. What works or doesn't, - and why.I would rather fail outright a certain percent if some stuff was great, than be just okay most of the time.
Ironically, Hawkins played a big part in FF success.

I agree they had differing writing styles, but I think it's fair to point out that Kurt's writing was intentionally simple?
I'm not sure where the complicated arrangements you mentioned are?
A lot of the vibe of nirvana was a reaction to overly complicated, somewhat self indulgent guitar solos and arrangements of the decade before.
They were a great band, but they were hardly prog.
