When you realize she is the embodiment of "Looking through Rose colored glasses" The gems praised her as the perfect gem but really most of everything she did was for her own selfishness and got away with it via death by child birth.

According to the movie art book, pink diamond wasn't actually dead and was supposed to appear in the movie, hence why the gem looked like an eye, desperately looking around for an escape. I can't remember why she backed out of it, all I remember is that the reasoning was bullshit. It was also a last-minute change hence why the plot was such a mess and all the foreshadowing was left in. She really didn't handle this show very well at all.

Man. Rose started so much trouble JUST because something didn’t go her way. Imagine the whole reason the rebellion even exists is just because your leader wasn’t getting spoiled like they wanted to
I hate Rose as much as the next girl, but I'd say the rebellion is the one somewhat good thing she did. She finally understood that organic life was just as meaningful as inorganic life. But I do think she should've done it differently. Not as a Diamond, as then she would never know if her followers were willing or simply following orders, but different in some other way. I don't know.
Edit: The only other good thing she did was give birth to Steven, erasing her problematic self from the universe and giving us a sweet baby boy like him. Only for her to still somehow fuck him up with her past choices coming to try and kill/maim him and his family/friends.
I feel like I get that logic.

She wanted to protect life on Earth and the other Diamonds predictably didn't listen to whom they considered the silliest and youngest of them. They most likely thought she was just making excuses to get out of the actual work of forming a colony, which to be fair, seemed like a total Pink Diamond thing to do. But we know she just geniunely fell in love with the Earth and its potential. Her reasoning was pretty sound, but the inherent pro-Gem mindsets of her sisters and her own past behavior worked against her. Sucks, man.
At least when Freeza doesn’t get his way he intentionally cause trouble and keep his status in the pecking order of the universe and he’s a pure evil racist emperor that is aware he is a entitled prick, and brat and isn’t the top dog and will do anything improve himself to push down any opposing force after his encounters with Goku

A petulant child that wanted to be at the levels of her sisters but Yellow was to busy with conquest, Blue was educating her to be a good leader and always guilt trip Pink and White aleays expected her to ne always perfect.
Pink was tired of all of this but as a child that runs away from home she never thought of the consecuences of her actions and never foresaw that her faked death woild bring the end of yhe colony on Earth. After that she left everything behind and started to live with the Crystal Gems that remained once more forsaking the fact that the past would haunt her son instead of her place.
@@2killmaster I'm talking about the show in general, I watched the show from its first preview to its end and its honestly one of the worse written shows ever. They hype up pink as a hero and talk about how evil the diamonds are only to redeem the diamonds and make pink evil? Nothing pink did even comes close to the shit the diamonds did, not to mention the fact that literally every problem in the show is solved the exact same way.

Rose was a kid playing soldier who abandoned the fight when she couldn’t handle the pressure. The planet was then hit by a corruption blast that allowed her to live out the fantasy of being a great protector instead of dealing with very real issues with her team mates.
Remember, when one of the crystal gems transformed into Stephen’s mom to torment his emotionally broken father, and tried to make up for it by cleaning his garage?

to be fair amathyst is like 14 at the start of the show and maybe 16 mentally speaking i allway saw her as stevans older sister
A talk with my friend led me to realizing something. Rose (or I think Pearl) said that she could only save a few people when all the diamonds Kamehameha’d the planet from light years away (which is already something because if Jasper is the strongest non Diamond non Fusion and even she couldn’t match a Diamond, how the blue hell could Rose block a full blast from all 3 working together which managed to affect the entire planet, and no one found that at least odd). But in Future, Steven can create way bigger shields and way more shields than the one she created. Which leads me to think she didn’t do that to save the rest of the army so she could keep up the persona of Rose. Which is a can of worms if that’s correct.

She’s strong enough to withstand the corruption blast under her shield but wasn’t fast enough to encase the planet in a bubble.
@@jkid1337 my point wasn’t she shouldn’t be able to, it was that she… shouldn’t be able to. At least from how the gems are labeled. This random Quartz comes out and blocks a full blast from all three diamonds at once that was fired from light years away and affected the entire planet. And no one really thought twice about it. You and I know she should be able to possibly, since she’s a Diamond and she specializes in defense. But they think she’s just a revolutionist Quartz. That’s a side point tho, I can’t flack the characters for not thinking about it immediately after escaping death.
My point was that she can create multiple shields and way bigger shields than what she actually did. I’m up for her just not being able to or being fast enough… despite being fast enough to grab all her friends and also put up the shield, but maybe they just weren’t near her. My theory just falls under a theory that we might never know since we didn’t see that full scene outside the flashback.
@@jkid1337 oh and I wasn’t saying encase the planet in a bubble btw. I meant even just creating bigger shields like Steven did in his fight with Jasper. In the flashback, it’s shown she makes a pretty big version of the held shield Steven uses, but didn’t create the bigger shields from that fight that she reasonably should be able to make and surpass in size. Since Steven hasn’t shown he can encase the planet off the top of my head, I wouldn’t just say Rose should 100% be able to or else she let everyone die purposely. I was just basing it off what Steven can do.

Two things
A)She may have immense power as PD but not able to control it as well as Steven can especially since Steven is actually trained to use his powers while PD most likely used her powers carelessly
B)SU's writing is completely poop
After learning that Rose has the power to command lower level gems to do whatever she wants and they must obey her. It’s quite possible that she unknowingly forced Ruby and Sapphire to stay fused together as Garnet. Let me break it down. So we learned in “A Single Pale Rose” that Pearl physically could not speak the truth on Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond as a direct command by Pink, through Volleyball and The Diamonds we learn that Pink isn’t in full control of her powers and they go haywire when she lashes out in a temper tantrum, in Steven Floats we learn that his powers are fueled by his emotions (meaning the same goes for Pink/Rose), which all leads up to The Answer. After Ruby and Sapphire fall to Earth and fuse into Garnet the second time, what does an overly excited Rose do when Garnet starts questioning themselves? Rose takes their hands and says “Don’t question this. Never question this.” And Garnet never does. Which is why after Sapphire learned the truth she was not only devastated that Rose lied to them all, but because her and Ruby’s entire millennia long relationship wasn’t because of their own feelings for each other, but was forced upon under the direct order of a Diamond.

You know what’s also awful, in the SAME episode where we see Garnet’s first meeting from Pearl’s perspective? Pearl tells Rose “But I’ve been imagining things, even when you haven’t told me to, isn’t that ridiculous? Tell me to stop!”
Rose says, “Please don’t ever stop!!”
And Pearl never did.
Rose might’ve accidentally forced Pearl to fall in love with her. Pearl will never get over Rose as long as she lives.
I feel bad for Steven (and Connie) too like- Pearl was under order/created to protect Rose with her life.She trained Connie and kept putting it in her mind 'you're inferior to Steven- he's part gem (and she knew his royal lineage) and you're just a meek human. His life is more valuable.' And I think that continued to stick with Connie- Pearl was just making Connie into another Pearl but for Steven.
Ruby was created to protect Sapphire with her life, so them fusing was a way for Ruby to protect her forever. Then they pretty much told Steven, this literal child they known since birth, 'hey, if you love Connie and want to protect her, just fuse with her forever.' and he got upset when she turned down his technical 'proposal' because she wanted to live her own life for a while before 'settling down'. I know Garnet loves being a fusion, but its shown Sapph and Ruby can barely function when apart (thats...not very healthy in a relationship).
One thing I’d defend is that it would not be better for her to rebel as a Diamond, since the other diamonds have their heads shoved so far up their own butts that even if there was a whole WAR going on, as long as it was led by a ‘lesser gem’ they wouldn’t give two shits. The second Pink Diamond would have revealed herself, they would have shut that crap down. We know how powerful White is against any gem. The only reason they even SURVIVED is because the diamonds thought they had annihilated all the gems, in a blast they only resorted to in a fit of rage and grief.
But how she treated Spinel is straight up unforgivable
But if they got serious anyway because of pink "dying" then it wouldn't really matter. Her being rose didn't stop anything and the other diamonds got involved anyway. You could even argue that they wouldn't have intentionally tried to destroy the rebel gems like they did if they thought pink was in the middle of it. There would've even been a chance for them to have a small victory because the other diamonds would have been more receptive to the idea of pink just having the planet and not making more gems since they had already given it to her. They already gave her whatever she wanted if she threw a big enough tantrum, it wouldn't be a stretch to think they'd back down to avoid looking dysfunctional in front of their subjects.
I blame the writers more than anything because they never gave any sorta reason beyond them babying pink for her to fight in disguise.
@@untitled-gv3qp You make a good point, but I must add that they didn’t just give her whatever she wanted, they’d lock her away for however long in that tower until she ‘learned her lesson’. It only took the grief of losing Pink and then ‘getting her back’ for them to loosen up enough to let Steven into their hearts so that he could convince them otherwise.

I can see what you mean but I still think that her rebelling as rose was unnecessary. And especially hiding it from everyone fighting on her side. She could've still done everything she did in the war as Pink. If they made it so she actually did something to help the war efforts as pink beyond just asking the diamonds in an indirect way then it might've helped. Like, give her an actual solid reason for why she needed to play both sides of the war if you wanna have that twist.
One thing that bothered me was that Pink's gem could stop White on its own. It just felt like "she's the protagonist so she'll be stronger than White when it's convenient".
@@FlashQuatsch that doesn’t bother me as much, because the way I see it, the Diamonds are probably quite similar in strength. I don’t remember Yellow or Blue really trying to block White’s attack, so they got taken over easy. But pink Steven directly blocked it, so he didn’t get controlled. White makes herself seem perfect, so they respect her as such. Plus her powers are pretty direct in their control as opposed to others
And to top it all off, the writers of Steven Universe confirmed that despite "loving" Greg, Pinky Diamond always view him as inferior.

I've only watched a few episodes of this show,but from what I've heard Rose is a freaking AC villian. She's manipulative and uncaring the father of understanding guide her well.

She chose to have Steven when she did despite the crystal gems still having work to do on earth and without telling anyone who she was or about the two people she abandoned and left to rot in hidden locations where you can assume she was just intending for them to stay forever. And it's safe to say that Greg and the other gems didn't know she would essentially die after having a kid or none of them would've been okay with the idea. And that's an awful thing to keep from your spouse. She gave the illusion of being better but she didn't actually change.
Stupid air conditioner villians
When Universe Future came out I was hoping so much that it would bring up more of Pink Diamonds past. With the amount of holes and undocumented experiences Pink Diamond went through it lead to so many unanswered questions in the original series. Maybe it could’ve answered some questions or made her actions more justifiable.
What we got from Future is special in its own way, but I’ll never forgive just how much was left unanswered throughout the series as a whole that could’ve been explained better. In essence, learning from the past to better our future.
Future is literally just steven having an existential crisis spread over a season.
To be fair, Future was rushed and i believe pretty much unfinished because of CN. They told Sugar 'either have more seasons or get the gay wedding episode' and they chose the gay wedding, so Future had to be rushed because CN gave them a deadline/finale date

Thing is, vids like this are for characters that are portrayed as good, like rose and pb. In total drama, it's a very known thing that Chris is a dick, even in universe.

I fully believe she could have survived child birth and chose to die so she could avoid the consequences of her actions , leaving Greg to raise a child alone as a Widower and their son to be blamed for her actions .
Personally , I like to just remove the character from Canon and just ignore all the revelations of her actions .
I don't think she could have survived child birth, since Steven was half gem. HER gem. He needed it to survive. So either she kept the gem, allowing her child to die, or she gave her gem to Steven, which would make her perish in the process. She said it right, they can't both exist. They use the same gem.
@@thallium.81 The only real question is how would Rose KNOW that would happen. I don't think gems have a "return to factory mode" ingrained in their subconscience so as far as even she knew, she'd just be "asleep" while Steven has the gem attached to his body, similarly to how Lapis was trapped in the mirror.
My headcanon is that Rose didn't bubble Bismuth because she was against thah, she bubbled Bismuth because she didn't want to get shattered
Mine is similar but rather than fearing bismuth being shattered I think that she hid bismuth because she made the sword that was used to "shatter" pink diamond but the rose sword can't shatter gems only poof them. So maybe she didn't want bismuth connecting dots
Maybe she didn't want to shatter other gems as well? Garnet seems to use "shatterer" as an insult, maybe they just bubbled their enemies during the war.
I like how she left Spinel, her "best friend" for thousands of years cause she finally got to rule over a planet by herself, and then got bored of governing Earth cause being in charge wasn't as fun as she thought it was. And yet never thought to go back for the person who was literally designed to be get *Perfect* Playmate to add some fun into her life again
Don’t forget that by impersonating a Rose Quartz Gem during the rebellion she basically got the hole line of gems blacklisted by the diamonds. If Blue hadn’t stepped in you know Yellow would have killed the lot of them!

I HATE it when people use a characters trauma to excuse there actions as if it makes everything better
While what the diamonds did to her may explain her actions they in NO WAY excuse them and I'm tired of her defenders pretending otherwise
Like what she went through was terrible but part of maturing (whitch she supposedly did) is learning right from wrong and dealing with your own personal flaws and trauma whitch she never did. She just ran

While I agree what she did was horrible. A lot of people didn't understand that the diamonds gave Rose Ptsd which is primarily the cause of Rose identity change and anger issues as Pink Diamond. I'll lay it out in detail.
Blue admitted that they locked Rose up on multiple occasions for trying to do something different or new.
It was shown from her memories that the Diamonds treated her as a toddler rather than respecting her.
It was later shown that a lot of the gems and diamonds are extremely unreasonable. This was shown by Jasper, the Diamonds, Aquamarine and a bunch of other characters.
Even if we did say pink was heartless. People forget that most Gems are born. They are made to have function not emotion. Plus Pink had a whole war and saving the earth to think about. So no. I don't think she's heartless. If anything even the Diamonds and Pearl both forgot about Spinel and they were extremely bad people in the beggining as well.
I agree. She did some messed up things, but so did everyone else!
I wish the series had focused more on Rose back then was acting like a diamond usually does. But with the diamonds it unravels ot because we see the diamonds DO care and can change quite easily. It would have been better if they made white diamond stay evil like Ozai did and her control over ALL the gems ensured they would stay emotionless worker bees
None of this excuses her actions, and your whataboutism at the end doesn't help either. Being traumatized doesn't give you free reign to abuse and hurt other people.

Bismuth is absolutely GOATED and easily among my favorite characters in the show. She deserved so much better and was done so dirty by Rose/Pink
The moment they revealed Rose was Pink I entirely checked out, only to watch the rest of the show and movie later because my daughter asked me too.
The second it came out that Rose was Pink, Rose essentially disappeared as a character and everything about her was overshadowed by Pink Diamond.
Spinel was left in a garden and people kept making excuses for Rose. According to Rebecca Sugar, from what I've heard, Rose knew she was there. She couldn't have left a note with someone to go get Spinel? I'm sure one of the Diamonds, specifically Blue, would've found a new home for her. I get people make mistakes, but Rose doesn't seem to care about anybody. Everyone agrees that the Diamonds did foul things, but some people will not call out Rose. People keep calling her a kid when she's thousands of years old. WHAT? People called out Jasper and Lapis and they're both younger than Rose/Pink Diamond.
Fr like not even *Steven*, Mr Sunshine and forgiveness himself, can't justify her scheiße anymore, stopped trying after Spinel

Look, I'll never say rose is outright evil, she's not, she has genuine qualities and tries to be kind to people. She IS however, horribly irresponsible and childish. If she had been even moderately more responsible, none of the horrible tragic events in the series would've happened.
to me one thing I found interesting is steven WAS RIGHT when he told rose did you make me just to avoid all your problems? because yes she did do that, now that we know she's pink diamond it's pretty obvious, in fact rose pulled what's known as a thanatos gambit a plan where it works cause you died and well that is in fact what she did she killed herself on purpose just to stop feeling guilty and so steven would fix all the stuff she did, the only part of her plan that she didn't account for was steven getting the other diamonds to understand the abuse pink went through and repent for it cause pink never thought once that they would.

One detail that I think is the saddest came from that scene where Steven holds his head and it changes between him, Pink and Rose doing it. She is facing tbe consequences of her actions and all the hurt she caused, because Steven IS Rose, but the only way we see her face her actions is by hurting another person, as Steven has to be the one to go through the pain.

I knew this person who INSISTED Rose Quartz did absolutely nothing wrong. If you spoke ill of Rose/pointed out what she did wrong, youd get blocked. I feel like Rose is a realistic young adult, she made a shitload of mistakes. She's not evil, nor a villain, but she is just as low as anyone else, not anywhere near the high pedestal she was put on. She almost feels like a teenager with how much crap she tried to mend, cover up, etc all by herself.
I don't think she's really a hero for it. She was trying her best. It wasn't good enough. She didn't deserve worship. She was actual proof that the diamonds were just as fallible and dumb as everyone else.

I am surprised you didn't talk about the other Rose Quartz' as I remember they were bubbled right when war with 'Pink Diamond' was taking place and if you notice all the bubbles were indeed pink, so that means she would have had to bubble all the rose quartz gems just to save her own behind, and left them there for thousands of years just because of her mistakes.

It's kind of a pattern, she picks an interest and drops it for the next without thinking of ANY consequences.
Even her colony almost immediatly bored her, leading to seeing what happens to colonized planets. And even then it didn't really feel like she was fighting for life on Earth.
But we can all agree that PD isn't as bad as PB
What bothers me the most is that I see a large margin of people either saying that she’s good or evil when the entire point of her character is that she had good intentions but went about it in not the best ways. (Bubbling bismuth and keeping her secret, leaving spinel, etc) regardless of how you paint it pink/rose is still a better diamond than the other three by far and has technically had the most non-Steven induced character development out of everyone in the show lol.

I will give Rebecca sugar major props for making a character who seemed like a generic nicest and pure hearted mother that’s no longer alive and making her more of a selfish gaslighter. "Her story is in reverse." That doesn't excuse the Bubbled Rose Quartz Gems, Bismuth, Spinel, Jasper, Pink/Rose's troops fighting each other (Strong Implication.), Beta/Zeta Kindergartens (debatable.), The cluster (debatable), or a Master/Slave dynamic. Which I'll never get over.

Tbh if Pink Diamond did rebel against her fellow diamond as a diamond, yellow would’ve poof all her gems with a direct hit from a shockwave , blue would’ve unfused any fused gems with her emotions rendering them helpless, white would catch pink off guard then mind her and spinel would’ve hit any other of pink’s gems that the other diamonds had missed then the rebellion would be over within minutes

Let’s not dismiss how the other Diamond’s raised her. She’s the result of the other diamonds, so they too are at fault for her behavior. Also as the series progresses especially from the movie into future, it felt like they were beating a dead horse, adding more and more bad things that Rose/Pink did. Just shatter the Diamonds, all 4 of them, they’re all evil. They just tried to undo all the bad things they did throughout the series

Just wanted to bring something up about the whole "Faking her death" thing: At the point she had made that decision, She had tried to stop the diamonds as Pink Diamond. When she told them she wanted to stop terraforming and colonizing Earth, the other diamonds took control of the project and continued over her protests. Pink diamond, at that point, legitimately believed that Yellow and Blue didn't care about her.
Also, if she had rebelled as Pink Diamond, Blue and Yellow wouldn't have left the war to underlings, they would have come in person to earth to drag her away and have all the gems she had led in the rebellion shattered. By leading the rebellion as Rose, Pink was able to at least somewhat keep Yellow and Blue away.
Keep in mind, I'm not excusing anything Pink/Rose did, but I can understand why she did some of it. Spinel was inexcusable, but even then, I understood *why*. Spinel was made to keep Pink entertained and out of the way, she couldn't have Spinel running around and trying to play while she was trying to run a colony. I do, however, fully believe if The Rebellion hadn't happened, Pink would have returned to Spinel.

When PD went to earth and saw how beautiful it was she pleaded with the diamonds to not colonize it and just leave earth alone (1 Good thing).
The Diamonds refuse (The same diamonds the community and steven forgave for some reason but screw rose i guess) so PD starts the rebellion against them to protect earth (2 Good things).

PD takes on the persona of rose which is just the smart thing to do. She rebelled as Rose then went home as PD to sabotage the Diamonds from the inside. (3 Good things)
We've seen on multiple occasions that the diamonds (The same diamonds the community and steven forgave for some reason but screw rose i guess) hurt the people pink cares about when she doesnt do what they want. (white pearl for example) its completely understandable why she would keep her identity a secret from a moral, strategic, emotional and just common sense standpoint.

We literally have no idea what was happening on rose's side of things during that time, we dont know why she didnt / couldnt come back. if you want to chock that up to her being a bad person then, more power to you i suppose. In the "its over isnt it" song pearl says she was completely fine with all the men rose dated / hung out with. she only had a problem when it came to greg because greg was actually special to rose. And whenever we see pearl interact with greg she's always being passive aggressive, but never telling rose how she feels. That "love triangle" was completely from the perspective of Pearl, Rose was only ever interested in Greg.

Rose had steven because she wanted to make life. That's it. The entire reason she wanted to save earth was because she was fascinated with the concept of life not being stagnant, instead growing old, dying and being born. She didn't have any agenda when she made steven. she just wanted a son.
in conclusion 99% of the rose hate is just the show strawmanning her into looking like a bad guy and the fanbase going along with it. if you actually look at her actions and judge things from her perspective she's just doing the best she could with the situation she's in.
According to an interview, she had full control of how Steven was made. According to Rebbeca, he could have been born without a gem as a normal human. Meaning she choose suicide as a means of escaping from the responsibilities of being... her. This was before the reveal that she was Pink Diamond.
