Facts.
Pink daimond couldn't help spinel. It was impossible. She had keep the lie that pink daimond was shattered, otherwise the daimonds wouldnt have cared about a silly rebellion. And going to fetch' or even being seen with spinel would've revealed that she was pink. Spinel isnt exactly a subtle gem. Going back to fetch her later, would've revealed she was pink.
Basically it would have been worse overall for her to save spinel for everyone.
@@SimplyAWitch9 She could've told spinel to rotate her gem, switch around her colors, anything to not get caught. Pink could've even told the diamonds Spinel went haywire, and ran off to join the rebellion.

When you take into account Pearl’s and Rose’s respective speeches about growth in Three Gems And a Baby and in Greg The Babysitter, also remember that White, the supreme Diamond who taught everything to all her kind was called out for being childish, that does make sense.
I think her flaw as a diamond was being childlike, she was young at heart, to the point she lacked the maturity to realize what she was doing to everyone around her and it took Greg to finally show the slightest bit of repercussions for her actions; like the egocentric stage of childhood. Hence, why she decided to give up her form to become a better version of herself by making Steven with the traits of herself and Greg. I don’t think she is a villain per say but, due to what her “flaw” as a diamond made her oblivious too has caused her to be a past tense antagonist for Steven’s life.
Exactly. I feel like she wasn’t a consciously bad person, just an ignorant, egocentric diamond because she was *so* childlike.

The way pinks pearl, volleyball described the incident with pink diamond was exactly what an abuse victim would say. “She didn’t mean to hurt me, I just happened to be standing in the way” “you know how she is”. Essentially making excuses for her.
Dude, EVERYTHING Pearl says about Rose are things traditionally said by abuse victims. "It's over, isn't it? Why can't I move on?", (after being asked by Volleyball how she stopped hurting) "I didn't", "Sorry for not believing you, it looks like I still make excuses for her" and the classic "Maybe she was childish, maybe even selfish, but she was a good person".

Technically she is. She shows she has a personality, feelings, emotions, and even gives off bodily liquids like a living person. I mean after all ; a gem is basically made from the life within the world.
Basically Pink Diamond is a kid who treats everyone like a toy, once she finds a newer, more fascinating toy, she'll disregard the old one and give the new one her love and the cycle repeats .
You don't understand her character at all. She was selfish and immature but she genuinely cared about people.

I realized this once it became clear when she was willing to resort to war but not as her self. If she had put her foot down as pink diamond and said she will resort to war to protect earth, than she could protected to earth and prevented a war. And if even if the other diamonds were willing to go to war with pink over earth, pink would have been far better off as she would have been able to rally a much larger military force as pink diamond than rose and she could have saved more gems with larger military forces.

I really think it’s mostly from Pink’s perspective. She wasn’t perfect, she made mistakes. She, like the other diamonds, didn’t understand others like we do. But she still loved things like Greg and her son. This is why Steven is the perfect protagonist for this story because he’s the representation of Pink learning what love is. In Steven, he feels more emotion than other characters which is why characters just flock to him. He understands them and makes them understand. Pink made horrible mistakes but, on a human level, we do too. It doesn’t excuse what she did but we also have to understand that Pink wasn’t human with human values. Which makes the things she’s done more believable. This was further exemplified in the episode where Greg tried to fuse with her and she laughed but then stopped when Greg was crying.
“Why are you crying?” She says this with a look of genuine curiosity but to us it was clear as day why Greg was upset. Those kinds of human values are what separates us from people like the Diamonds. She’s something that was trying to learn what makes these strange humans so interesting. And I can bet you that part of the reason why she found humans so fascinating was their differences in values. Values that seem to make no sense to gems but an impractical sense to us. She wanted to learn to “love like you” like Greg and other humans (because she found it so amazing). Pink may have been cruel but she was also extremely ignorant.
Wow, that is a really fair point that I do agree with. It's unfair to judge rose/pink based as if she was human. Also, she was held up to a very high standard, being a diamond. So it makes sense she would rebel against the other diamonds because they pretended to be perfect, so if pink made a mistake, she would want to hide it. And with that amount of pressure, it makes sense that she would run because she was never taught how to cope with those kinds of feelings.

This is my viewpoint actually. Although I do need to act that Pink’s psychology is as a human too. Even the gems and diamonds themselves. They are all imperfect and driven by an ambition to colonize and reproduce. Pink is that pivotal role of the realization of the evil within their empire. I do not know if we can call this human, but I really think that this is how we behave. With all the habitus or ingrained ideologies from our own nation/tribes, we are often pushed to fight for it or even cause fight for it. However, there are people who break free from it then realizes the mistake. That is what Pink represents.
I do think that the story and characters have bis o flaw, but to end on a note that Pink diamond is merely acting upon selfishness is a bad analysis towards their behavior. Ever since the beginning of the show, they acted like humans; ergo, it is presumably sufficient to say that they can be analyzed as humans.
The Diamonds are like pinks parents, Rose was her way of going out behind her parents back to play. She metaphorically and physically rebelled against them and in the end left only a kid in the world. She always left her issues for other people to work out and showed that she was basically a kid playing with dolls who never grew up.

Agreed, that's absolutely in keeping with Pink's persona. Yellow has the garb of a soldier and is quick, decisive, brash, violent, all those attributes. Blue is in very round garb of somber blue - she is all emotion, mostly sad, wills others to feel her pain, wallows in suffering, etc. White is brittle perfection with her spiky headpiece, unilateral view (white is the non-inclusion of other colors, after all), absent of feeling, shows psychopathy and yet complete propriety and moral superiority at the same time *shudder*. While pink is literally in clown's clothes. She's the poppet, the guignol. The Fool. She is the embodiment of childish fancy with all the passions, daring yet thoughtlessness of a child. With all the breathtaking goodness and horrifying badness that can bring. Totes makes sense.
Everyone seems to forget that Pink Diamond's Character Development was in Reverse, I still love her.

Right?! If anything, Pink was realistic and made mistakes, but tried to improve. She tried her best to learn how to love, and the fact that she started a rebellion against the system despite her biggest influencers being the diamonds really gives me respect for her.

She will never truly be redeemed being that she's kinda dead. Steven took her place when he came to be and there is no turning back. People can make justifications for her and Steven can solve all her problems, but it'll never be a true redemption being that it was Steven that handled her past issues and not her herself. She never came back to explain herself or apologize and she can't do that because Steven is her now. She's not an evil person, but she's definitely flawed in the way that she just ran from her issues and left people like Pearl, Spinel, Bismuth, and Pink Pearl behind with a bunch of baggage to deal with. Like did she ever even wonder about Spinel left alone in that garden or Bismuth bubbled up and locked away somewhere with no one to find her? Pearl and Garnet had just thought Bismuth got destroyed in the war or something. That's pretty messed up.

@@uberoll5166 I've watched the show and I have my own views on it. Bismuth wanted to shatter Gems they were at war with. War. Makes sense when you believe this is a war and that your leader shattered one of the Diamonds already and your friends are dying around you daily. And then Rose let the remaining Crystal Gems believe that Bismuth had been lost to the war instead of telling them the truth. Which screwed them and Bismuth up more.
Taylor-Ray you’re right. Rose lying to the others was bad, but poofing Bismuth was a hard decision she HAD to make at the time. Introducing the Breaking Point would’ve divided the Crystal Gems because not all of them would agree/disagree with her. They’d be fighting amongst themselves AND fight off Homeworld. Bismuth would’ve made things worse.

I think by the time Pink is "shattered" and we see Rose living on Earth, there is a genuine attempt at change. I think though that Greg was the first person to truly make Rose think about whether she was a good person or not. And ultimately, Rose's willingness to give up her form I think was a sincere attempt at trying to rectify things. Humans can change, and at least a that point, gems couldn't (or at least that was the impression). Rose put her faith in the fact that Steven would be better than her. You can still say that's selfish, but I do think there's at least some shred of decency to that logic.

Its really a question of whether you think she was being sincere in that videotape because it happened well after any of the flashbacks as evidenced by Greg's hair loss. Now you can say it wasn't enough, but to me the impression is she was trying to be better at that point.
Meanwhile the other diamonds have been destroying worlds for millennia, shattered gems and then stuck their pieces together to make abominations. Its good that they're trying to do better now, but just like Pink that doesn't erase what they did. Hell if it were Blue instead of Pink she probably would have shattered Spinel once she no longer had a use for her. Pink hurt a lot of people and we got to see those hurt closely, but the others hurt even more people we didn't get to meet or even see mentioned. So yes the other diamonds at their worst were far worse than Pink who couldn't even complete one colony after seeing what it was doing.

Well yeah absolutely...but that's the problem. She ran away from everything before she even had a slight chance at accepting/embracing the things she'd done that's "bad". Therefore, never comes to terms with her wrong doings, therefore never getting a redemption arc.
Meanwhile, everyone else is still here. Looking their past in its face, accepting it as wrong, and changing what they can now. Getting their redemption arc.
The big difference is everyone else was "man enough" to stick around and deal with their past, whereas Pink will never have to.

Hey, I'm a surviver and I just wanted to say thank you for this video. Being abused does not justify hurting others. It never does. I could relate to Spinel so much and the show dealt with the whole abuse and genocide and redeeming so so badly, it was a terrible example.
There are things that are not redeemable and there is a point where you can't make everything OK again.
You can grow and change and do better but that does not make you entitled to anyone forgiving you or wanting you around.

Hell, bismuth was a good idea compared to spinel. Bismuth disagreed with rose/pink. Therefor she had to be removed or risk becoming a radical. (It's still not ok, but at least she has a reason) Spinel spent her existence making Pink happy. Then one day, Pink gets a shiny new toy (colony) and tells her old toy to stay there and never move. She has no reason other than "i'm bored of you. you belong in the garbage now."

The movie and SU: Future really opened my eyes to just how bad Pink Diamond was. rewatching the original series and seeing flashbacks and how the gems remembered her.. it was uncomfortable, seeing just how much she’s damaged others around her.
Honestly, I loved how Rebecca Sugar made it somewhat subtle for some people. The movie was a giant bomb shell for some people, including myself.
Rewatch it again and remember the whole series and throughout the movie, she's being neglected and still waiting [during the series and first few minutes of the movie].

I have been told too many times to count that when I got upset over other's actions and how they hurt me, "Well you have to remember how they grew up/experienced/suffered." Like they had zero control over the way they act. So hearing this (especially since I'm in the middle of a platonic break up with what I'm realizing might have been an incredibly toxic relationship) was actually really helpful and unexpected from this video. In my opinion pink diamond/rose is not bad or good. She made a lot of mistakes, but she learned from them in her own way.
The show is showing her deeds backwards by showing her redemption first aka being with greg and learning to love him and wanting Steven, saving the humans, cherishing fusion etc. And as the show goes on, they show her bad mistakes. Yeah it sucks how she left everyone behind with her problems, but I think she just was a dreamer hoping for a better place. And by doing so only concentrating on herself, aka she was selfish. But as time went by and her finally starting to see things as they are and Greg telling her about what’s not right (he was the only person to teach her what she’s doing wrong) She learned what not to do.
In my own experience I have made same kinds of mistakes like her. I left a person when I was younger because she was too clingy and wanted to hang out with me all the time. As i look back on it, I realize how horrible I was towards her. She loved to hang out with me and she did all these kind things to me, but I, being the selfish person I was and wanting to hang out with the cool people, left her behind. I also told her to act more like a grownup (even tho I was being more childish). I Ignored her calls and in the end, ended up breaking her heart. People always hurt the people who love them the most.
But like Spinel, this girl that I hurt, changed because of me. She wanted to hang out with the cool people too. I already had changed my way of thinking and wanted to say sorry for the way I treated her, but it was already too late. She had changed completely, heavy makeup, clothes, how she talked and what music she listened to. All to satisfy some strangers needs.
I ignored this and wanted still to return her into my life, but she didn’t accept me anymore. She wanted me to change too. She wanted me to put more makeup, slutty clothes, change the way I talk and all. It hurt me this time. After that I felt like shit for a long time. I almost started dressing that way too because I wanted to feel beautiful again.I guess karma is a bitch.
Pink Diamond did not have anyone to learn from what is right and what is wrong before Greg. She had to learn things with experience. By doing horrible things she observed what happens after doing so and then maybe learned from that. Running away was one of her learnings.later she learned to fight. Home-world was advanced in Pink diamonds time only in technology, but emotions and understanding feelings was a very confusing subject for the gems. Abuse, slaves, hierarchy was a thing there. Yes, she could have said sorry for her things. But in her defense I have to say that she just didn’t know how. Greg even said that Rose felt like confessing about many things but it’s all in the past now.
I think she didn’t go get Spinel because she viewed her mostly as a toy. She had so many things in her mind that she couldn’t satisfy everyone. Yes that’s horrible, I agree, but she loved the crystal gems, she loved the planet earth, she loved many things.
No one is an angel nor a demon. Some people just learn the wrong way of doing things and don’t have common sense, but that doesn’t make them horrible people.

Yeah i think people are missing the fact that literally no one has forgiven the other diamonds. We ignore them because the finale ruined them and there isn't anything to talk about. But people keep praising Pink to hell and back saying that she was such a good leader and an ideal role model. NO she wasn't. She was a manipulative child who decided one day that she didn't want to be responsible anymore. All she has done in the series is run; she ran from growing up, responsibility, her "sisters", her mistakes, her relationships, her commitments, her problems. Its not a good role model and it certainly isn't a good person. She abandoned everyone on earth in the ultimate attempt to run from her mistakes and let the rest of them clean up her mess. Yeah it was her fault the gems got corrupted because rather than face the other diamonds as a diamond with an army behind her she decided to fake her own death in an attempt to make the diamonds do what she did most: RUN. When it came to a full blown war she refused to confront it with the intent on winning because she wouldn't take down any other gem (im sorry but in war you don't win by knocking people out). When offered a way to win the war she punished someone for trying to help her and their friends live. When everything was all done and in shambles she left her friends to clean up the leftovers of her mess without ever telling them anything and leaving hte one person who knew it all to suffer in silence. She is a bad person, a good character, but a bad person.

Except Rose was helping them with that for thousands of years and they'd taken out a ton of them by the time she left. Like it'd be one thing if Rose just left like right after the war but again it was thousands of years later. As for Pearl as much as people say Rose was terrible to her if anything the show has always set it up as more of Pearl having a bit of an unhealthy obsession with her. Like from what we're shown in flashbacks Rose did seem to care about Pearl and the other gems quite a bit hell half the reason she fought the war was for them. Even keeping Pearl silent again really only became a problem when the war restarted thousand of years later like it feels as thought people think she could see the future.
I love the fact Pink Diamond is nuanced, shows how good the writing is
It's pretty common in a lot of shows, especially in Steven Universe, to give previously established "bad" characters a redemption arc and turn them into "good" characters.
What's interesting here is that Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond had the opposite thing happen. The entire show has essentially been about her fall from grace.
At the beginning of the show, all everyone talked about was how wonderful Rose was and Steven was trying so hard to be like her but the more we learn about her the more we see that's not true. She's literally has the opposite of a redemption arc.
At this point, I believe Pink is irredeemable. Mainly because, well, she's basically dead... There's no room for her character to learn and grow and move beyond her transgressions because she's not around to do those things.
The irony of Steven trying so hard to live up to her reputation is that he actually became more of the person that everyone claimed she was than she actually was

A major theme of Steven Universe is that no-one is beyond redemption... but I think Pink Diamond is the one exception in the series, for a single, simple reason: She's gone. There is no potential for her to change her ways, because she can't take actions anymore. She's a total deconstruction of the "villain redeemed by a heroic death" trope. Dying didn't correct any of the wrongs she'd done; it just let her escape having to answer for them.
This is probably the most mature and thought-provoking view of why Pink Diamond is bad. It’s opinions like these where they don’t choose sides of whether she *is* too good to be bad or she *is* too bad then being good, and that it brings up really good points with important evidence based on clips, quotes, etc., that really shines a light of hope for people of the fandom seeking answers and closure to these character traits. But much like the movie “there’s no happily ever after.“ We’ve yet to know more for what’s in store as the series still carries on. It can’t be promised, but hopefully things turn for better then for worse for the fandom.
I find it ironic that the lower-class gems turn out to be more mature than all the Diamonds...

At first she was in denial and did not believe that can stop but Steven reasured her that she can change any time she want and show her the support she needed.
I think that Rebecca Sugar wanted to show us how neglect and abuse can cause some what of a domino effect. I remember watching Psych2Go about how abuse and neglect carries on through the teachings of parents. Children grow up thinking that what their friends, family, and siblings put them through is normal and then continue the legacy of hurting others around them. This was just a thought.

In the flashback episodes, Rose wanted to live like a human whenever she was with Greg. She also liked to learn that Humans started off to be small and grow to be taller. She also asked Greg how humans were made (I think). Maybe she talked to him about it and he gave her "The talk".
I'd also like to add that when Pink first got her colony, she was so excited about creating life. I think she would have gotten that same joy and fulfillment, maybe more, out of bringing a child, new life, into the world.

She didn't love Greg at all, she just oust him like she did with every one else and she trick him into being a dad for her so when she re born as Steven he would look after she as Steven. Nothing more nothing else. She oust every one and every thing in her life and never love any one other then her self. Just ask Pearl, Spinal, pink Pearl and every one else in her life that know her.
I think it was both, she was around for 5,000 years and had many different boyfriends along the road. Pearl mentioned in one the episode that rose had always had relationships but never took them serious, until Greg. Which made pearl resent Greg the most because rose chose Greg and gave up her physical form for Steven.
I think it's kind of interesting that we actually see growth from Pink Diamond in reverse; we started the show with the person she grew into; Rose Quartz was her stopping point, the end result of Pink Diamond learning and growing as a person. But as we go farther into Pink Diamond's past, we get to see more of her younger self making very childish mistakes over and over and over. I think there's something to be said about successfully deconstructing the image children have of their parents as flawless beings, but I also think the fandom is kinda' throwing the baby out with the bathwater by claiming that Rose is *all* bad. She did change, and for the better, as she was willing to give up her form to bring Steven into the world. I think that's proof enough that Rose Quart grew significantly past her Pink Diamond origins.

That’s why we are able to forgive WVERY SONGE OTHER GEM that did something fucked up... and a lot of them did WAY worse than pink. But we are able to forgive them because they change and grow. Except even her final act, giving up her life to create Steven, was a completely selfish act. It's actually what has always made me despise her. The entire reason Pearl rebelled and pretended to shatter Pink was because Rose told her she wanted to live on Earth with her. That is what finally got a very apprehensive Pearl to go along with "shattering" her. It was pure manipulation. It is obvious throughout the show that Pearl has very little regard for the Earth or humans, only fighting for them because Pink/Rose believed in them. Pearl actually seems to rather enjoy the gem world, and rebelling against it was actually sort of not rebelling, since she only rebelled to please her diamond, which was her sole purpose. Rose reneged on the one thing that made Pearl "shatter" Pink, abandoning Pearl on a planet she didn't much care for, unable to return to Homeworld, and having to fight the gem monsters and take care of Steven. Rose's final act was the most devastating thing she could have done to Pearl, who truly loved Pink/Rose in a way that Pink/Rose could never love anyone or anything.
@@reedfamily841 It's obvious on closer inspection that Pink never developed romantic feelings for Pearl, she probably eventually developed a relationship similar to the one we can assume she had with Pink Pearl (someone who was taken away from her). The way I see it, Greg was a turning point for Rose. She realized how much she has acted only to serve herself, and decided to give something to Greg that would sacrifice her existence. Throughout the tapes of Rose, we see that all she wanted for Steven was for him to be able to love being himself; growing and changing, something she failed to do in her life. I agree that it is tragic that Pearl never got to have the "happily ever after" with Pink that she imagined but throughout the series we see her attachment to the Earth grow from something purely based on a lingering connection to Rose into an appreciation for the family she has made there and the new life she is leading. The point is, Pink Diamond is meant to be a flawed character. She is meant to represent a person who has difficulty understanding how emotions work (which btw is an ignorant topic on Homeworld). So with the creation of Steven, her character can be contrasted with a being who can better learn and grow. Someone who truly deserves to have her power.

i couldnt agree more. pinks my favorite character. most of the problems that everyone says “she caused” weren’t her fault at all, but the diamonds faults. i really don’t think spinel would have survived the gem war, and breaking pink pearl was completely an accident, just like when Steven shattered jasper. In fact, i think pink diamond is one of the most caring and loving characters in the series. she gave up her own life just to create one. she let gems be whoever the wanted to be, and she turned out extremely good considering she’s only ever been taught bad. She was neglected and abused, and she took all of her pain, and turned it into beauty.

I think my fav part we forget and forgive is the diamonds making a living gem bomb and the forced fusion experiments. Like real war crimes they can't undo unlike the light.
We don't truly have a body count on the dimonds. All we know is that they conquered planets. They did have lots of gems shatter but they can be brought back.

So you’re gonna forget how she faked her death and staged it as Rose shattering her, which led to Steven to be blamed, lied to Garnet and Amethyst about her true identity, abandoned Greg and Pearl, used Greg for her selfish desires, isolated Bismuth away from everyone, etc? Yeah the only bad thing was her abandoning Spinel.

Literally, Pink diamond was abused and wanted to grow up, so she decided to move on. Spinel tries to kill the entire earth and Steven, and is excused for simply having abandonment issues. I mean, c'mon now, which is truly worse??

For people to grow up to become good people, they need to be taught right from wrong. Pink didn't have the best role models since she hardly ever interacted with anyone but her sisters. After seeing Earth and Homeworld from the point of view of a common gem, she got to have a new perspective. As Sapphire pointed out, Rose was following her and Ruby as much as they were following Rose.
I think people need to remember that the Pink Diamond that abandoned spinel, left bismuth in a bubble, etc, isn't the same person who eventually got to know greg and gave up her life for steven: We essentially saw her redemption arc in reverse: At the start of the series, she was held up as this perfect moral figure, after she already had all her growth and changed as a person, and as SU went on we saw more and more of her faults and bad things she did before that point.

That's why her character is so good. I mean, it doesn't make up for every shit she did but she definitely wasn't as bad as she was 6000 years ago. Of course, she was still NOWHERE NEAR as perfect as they predicted her even after she met Greg, if you consider the way she laughed at his face. Just like Peridot, Jasper and the Diamonds, she changed.
Still don't you think if Rose was such a good person and learned from her mistakes she would have released Bismuth, tried to help Lapis (talk to her or something), or at least sent a message to Spinel telling her to return to Homeworld.

Also, she was kind of a coward, considering she never told Garnet or Amethyst about her true identity even after the war was over and she had absolutely no reason to hide her identity anymore, besides fearing they would pull a Bismuth and attack her, even though it would be totally justified. She ran from responsibility, that's who she is.
Rose's personality is actually perfect for the show's morals. If there's one lesson to be learned in the show, it's that her name is lapis.
Ok, if there's another lesson to be learned, it's that you don't have to be what others think you are. To explain, I made a list:
Character | Other's view of them | who they actually are

Amethyst | A weak defective soldier | A gem who makes the most of her abilities

The show teaches us that most of the time, no one is like any preconceived notions of them. This is also applicable to Pink diamond. Let's refer to the list:
Pink | A flawless being (a diamond) to her subjects, a sweet innocent child to the other diamonds | A little girl put on a throne, with no concept of responsibility
Rose | A brave war hero, who sees beauty in all life | A coward who abandons those she once called precious

Here's the problem. The show never treats Pink like a shit person. Until Future when they tried backpeddling.
Steven Universe, once you remove all of the magical elements from it, at its core is about the impact of a parent's suicide on the child she left behind and his efforts to pick up the pieces. Steven still loves his mom, but he is finally mature enough to understand that she wasn't a very good person and he understands that that's not his fault. The movie really made a point of his being burnt out trying to clean up after her, but drove home his desire to be a better person than she was. Overall I think the show/movie did a pretty good job with such heavy subject matter.
One thing I always wondered about was if Steven ever really loved rose/pink I mean we know he admired her once and knew he wanted to be like her but was there really a love there he once said in earlier episode that he just didn’t know how to feel about her because honestly he didn’t know her then his illusion or perception of her was shattered when he realized she wasn’t this holier than thou figure.
Pink never meant to thrust her problems onto Steven. When the war was over she thought it was over. No more diamonds. Eventually she forgot about her problems. She thought that when she gave birth to Steven, he'd never have to deal with her problems. And yes she knew she'd lose her form. But she was giving it to a new life! Giving her life away to someone who can change! Reminder that we're being shown her character arc BACKWARDS. She never meant to thrust her problems onto Steven. She thought all her problems were over. She thought that her problems were never gonna rise from the grave. She thought that the diamonds were never gonna come back. She thought Steven would have a good problem free life and not the one he has now.
@@Starrrycandy if she thought all her problems were over, and keep in mind that some of those problems she directly caused, and just assumed she could kill herself and Steven wouldn't have to deal with any of it, yeah, it is her fault, even if she didn't mean it. Steven has every single right to not love her or forgive her, because even if her development was done backwards, he gets constantly exposed to all her negative sides, and that has been going on since Season 3. That's not his fault, it's not something he can avoid, and he doesn't owe her his love or forgiveness, even though I'm sure someday he might be able to. It's his to give, not hers to receive. It's called setting a boundary. Steven is just really bad at doing that because he thinks his problems and feelings don't matter and that he has no right to set up a boundary as long as he's helping other people, not matter what said people did to him. It's a destructive behavior that was developed because of several reasons, but the biggest of them is because Steven has a hard time trying to figure out if he even actually exists. He spent so long being told by literally everyone about how great his mother was, about how amazing and loving and how he should strive to be like her, like the Gems wanted, and then got told and SHOWN that she wasn't that great of a person after all. Actually, she was pretty horrible once upon a time, and even for a long time after that, and then he was constantly thrust into one apocalyptic situation after another because of some bullshit she or her family caused, and then his idea and general relationship with her became obviously extremely more complicated. And then after he realized he wasn't his mom and accepted that every bad thing she did wasn't his fault nor his responsibility, he was already so deep into this destructive cycle that he couldn't seem to escape, because all he knew how to do was avoid death and help other people, whether he liked it or not. And then Spinel came, and then the Rose Quartzes, and then Pink Pearl, and that all made him realize that no matter how much he tried to trick himself into thinking that everything was fine now and that his hurt and trauma didn't matter, it would ALWAYS come back to haunt him, no matter what. And that left scars on him, scars that ran through his brain as they do through his bones, and they almost consumed him. But after realizing in Change Your Mind that he was not his mom, that he didn't have to be his mom, that he EXISTED, he thought that that was it. But it wasn't. He still had to accept all this trauma and all this hurt and rage that he had repressed for everyone's sake, always plastering a fake smile no matter how much they hurt him, he had to accept that that was WRONG, and that he was RIGHT to feel that way, and that his friends and family wouldn't abandon him even with all of this anger and hurt and rage that he held inside him for so long, that he thought he didn't have a right to feel, that he thought made him a MONSTER, that they would all be there for him like he was there for them, not matter how much they hurt him, even unintentionally. And he finally accepted that, in I'm My Monster. That's why after that he could finally start his path to heal.
So yeah, in conclusion, she didn't MEAN to put all of this on him, you're right about that. It just doesn't change much.

@@infamousplayer8772 With all due respect, the negative things Steven was exposed to were in consequence of the deliberate acts of the Diamonds other than Pink: Corruption and The Cluster. Curing Corruption was evidently impossible to accomplish by Pink/Rose alone; and when Steven was born there was no inkling about The Cluster, much less that it would hatch in little more than a decade later and either destroy the Earth or invite the return of the Gem Empire's forces if something had gone wrong with it.
Steven had no more reason to hate his mother for sacrificing herself to create him, than a child whose mother suffering from a terminal disease nevertheless chose to give birth.
