This scene was awe-inspiring, scary, and depressing all at the same time. A prodigy who loved his craft more than anything else, was consumed by his own passion and wound up being lost to it. It shows just how high someone can go...but also how much of themselves they have to sacrifice in order to get there.
Well spoken
Joichiro literally sold his soul and iron chef'ed it so hard he went soul searching to find it again.

So, fun fact, there's a saying in Japan referring to "Shura" as a name given to someone who, in the pursuit of some goal, ended up going down a dark path and channeling the god Asura in their actions. When someone "falls to Shura", it literally means they crossed a line they really shouldn't have. With Joichiro, that means this is the point where he begins to lose his passion for cooking. (at least until he assumedly meets Soma's mom)

Well, that is quite interesting. Thanks for telling that.
It would be cool if they did a prequel series with Saiba
They made a spin off manga with Shinomiya, I can't see why not. And I really want to forget the BLUE arc. So some Saiba prequel would be nice.

Erinas dad found his philosophy on the day that Joichiro lost his passion.
Azami views this In awe, Joichiro as a God against those who could never hold a candle to the best, leading Azami to the fact that it was the challengers mediocrity that led Joichiro to quit, rather than Joichiro lack of passion.
“Cooking’s not hard”
Saiba: “and I took offense to that”
When Azami said "How wonderful" gave me goosebumps
Gave me illumi vibes
And orochimaro vibes too
Aizen loved his cooking
In that moment he was consumed by his own demonic will, and lost his passion thereafter. Being a prodigy *isn't* always a good thing; cooking became so stifling he had to leave and go soul searching to find himself.
Gatling93 he ain't a prodigy. He was working harder than anyone else trying to think in ways that break the norm. The fact that everyone overlooked that, failing to acknowledge the work he did started to wear on him. That and everyone expecting him to outdo himself with each dish.
Squary94 no, he was a prodigy but he also worked hard but no one acknowledged his hard work and only believed he was that good because of natural born talent.
Reminds me of my own experience.
I have a lot of hobbies, jack of all trades. But my asperger makes me dedicated to my work regardless of how much I hate it or is sick. Unless you forcibly tell me I will sicken others and must stay home, I won't quit.
So when I simply explain my own experience in ingredients, use of spices, cooking methods, foreign culinary dishes, own experimenting and experience and methods and such then for some reason some either ask or say i'm a chef.
Same in other areas. I start with basics but I build on everything I learn to perfect them and go beyond to be flexible and be able to experiment. Apparently I go a little bit too far of what one would call a simple normal hobby. It's just photographic memory, practice in my imagination, research and lots of study and practical experience and most importantly my resilience, will and determination to never quit and always beat myself yesterday and become better today just enough to cross my limit. I don't like it when people say i'm an expert or professionally should do it. I heard the same from a lot of artists who hates being called talented cause they're really good cause it neglects all their hard work and struggle as if they didn't even try.
I suck at programming and has been aiming to make it my job to do game programming despite it being one of my worst subjects. And it's painful that the one thing I want, I can't do to even half the level everyone else did in a year yet i'm really skilled and made for everything else. At home i'm constantly praised for my cooking as I surpass and try new things and almost never fail my first try in anything. So it hurts to be great at everything I only do for a hobby but is terrible at the one thing I want to share and can share
@@jesuschrist7816 exactly. He worked hard to make it look easy. Others see that and don't understand the difficulty. I've been in the same position before, and it sucks. Relating hard to joichiro
This is why personally, I never try to get the highest possible grade, I just go for acceptable.
I remember being called a genius by my music theory teacher. If I'm a genius at anything it would only be because of how little I actually practice.
I'm not even sure I have actually gone all out on something.
This Joichiro would clap Yukihira, Tsukasa, Asahi, Shinomiya at the same time. Joichiro is a once-in-a-hundred chef that can go so far ahead of anyone in terms of taste and flavor.
I mean this Joichiro would clap every character in cooking shown thus far. He was known as a prodigy. Found only in a hundred years (I think it was a hundred) in Totsuki academy
@@purevessel4506 He would, add yeara of experience onto it and you have one of the best chefs in the world, which makes Asahi beating him absolutely preposterous.
