These living history sites are so full of interesting information, artifacts, and knowledgeable people. Your video just proved that again. BTW, I totally enjoyed “attending” your wonderful church service yesterday online. The worship time, the message and communion time was great. Thank you and the church for offering this online. I will be “back”! As always, thank you for all your time and skills on posting these travel videos for us. Take good care!
This is such a beautiful area and you did a great job of giving us a history lesson. It was very interesting. We were just up at Voyageurs NP (our 48th park) and had an amazing time paddling up there. Thanks for another great video. Safe travels and God’s blessings to you. John and Bev
Another favorite place! Looks like it kept Shane's interest. I enjoyed taking my daughter here when we were home schooling. The pow wow is also fun to watch and the Native American center we found interesting. Sounds like you had some great adventures in MN and WI. Great videography!!
Really had a nice time in MN! And this place in particular was so fascinating for us. Nice to hear of the memories you are making with your family too!
I know I like to make a lot of jokes but I have crazy respect for how much you get out of the Great Lakes parks. Most people don’t even know they exist and they are just gems.
Randy, Excellent tour of this fascinating and remote site. Looks like a good time for you, Julie and Shane. A 90 pound pack sounds back-breaking. The birch bark canoes are most interesting. THANK YOU FOR TAKING US ALONG, . . . Mike
I was just up there doing all the Lake Superior State Park hiking club trails. I stopped here on Labor Day specifically because of this video. I probably would have missed it without you. Thank you so much. Great place to see. So much history.
@@AmericasParks I did! It was my starting point of an amazing vacation. I did 13 State Park - Hiking Club Trails - for my book. If you ever go back there just about 10 minutes south of Grand Portage is Judge Magney State Park that has a waterfall called the Devil's Kettle. what an amazing site. Really my friend, thank you for the recommendation. Seeing God's work last week was the soul cleansing I needed.
Pretty sure that's the biggest canoe I've ever seen! Crazy how much weight they could hold. That place definitely looks like somewhere we would really love to go lots of History. Glad to hear at least somebody had a good relationship with the Native Americans. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you SO much… I’m from the opposite end of the state… SW corner is Pipestone with the Pipestone National Monument… only the TWO National Monuments in the state. We made it to Northern MN but never that, far altho I always wanted to… now we live in CO so enjoyed this SO much! Ya!!! I’ll send it to my adult kids cuz I spoke of the other monument…
Wonderful comment, thanks! Looked into visiting Pipestone, but it was a little too far with the time we had available. Love Minnesota! Had a super time up north. Take care and enjoy your week!
@@AmericasParks Awww So honoring to hear back from you. I always enjoy your videos. The wonderful thing about RUclips. We can’t travel everywhere… time, energy and money… But because of people like you and your lovely fam.. I do! You are a blessed man! God bless from a fellow traveler! And yes! Our fam loved Northern MN. Take in Lake Itasca, source of Mississippi if you get a chance. My Mother went there as a young girl and I fulfilled that dream to go and take my fam! Ely has the international Wolf center and Grand Rapids is Judy Garland’s birth house and museum. Of course there is the lighthouse tour on the North shore drive and the Canal bridge at Duluth and and and…🤣
@@queenofdahouse1591 Blessed by your kindness! What a wonderful line-up of great spots to see! ...and we tried to hit the headwaters of the Miss, but too many delays on arrival. :(. Hopefully next time!
That is a really cool National Monument! It's really nice to see another video from Minnesota because I am totally not familiar with that area at all. Thank you so much for sharing Randy.
i find this more interesting than most restoration villages being a frontier trading post/ always fun to visit these places, this is above average for sure.. biggest canoe i have ever seen that is awesome ! thanks for taking us with you
Really fascinating video on the history of this area and time period. Thank you for sharing and taking us along. It was also nice to see a return to you visiting these smaller and lesser known national sites. Was there any more to this monument or just this historic interpretive site?
Covered the whole site in the video. There is the interpretation center too (in addition to the "fort area"). I heard on some occasions they do some full re-enactments.
Man, your boy is sure getting big! it's been great watching you and the family explore over the years. waiting to see if you managed to knock off that last big park left on the list! found some time to do some editing today finally. I also got to film at Columbia gorge national scenic area last week so be looking for that one soon.. thanks for another great video bud!
Hey Robert! Thanks, yeah, he really shot up this year. At this rate he might even pass me. Hit the final one on this trip, but it took an unexpected/unpleasant twist. I'll keep you guessing! lol! Look forward to your video. Have never explored that place.
Randy, before I start watching this video, I want to ask if you're in or near a part of NJ that was affected by Hurricane Ida. The closest I've gotten to this part of MN is probably Ely, where I paddled a few hours--not enough to get across the line into the Boundary Waters. There, I went on my first of 2 dogsledding trips. Great video of, like you said, an interesting part of our history.
Hey Jim, thanks for the concern - all fine here. Much of the flooding was further north in the state. Ely is a great town - was up that way twice in the early 90's for a couple BW trip. The dogsledding must had been incredible!
@@AmericasParks, it really was, in that the summer before, I took off on a lark up to that part of MN, where I ended up in Ely (EE-lee), and noticed that 2 businesses were across the street from each other--(Will) Steger Outdoor Center (ads always in magazines for his mukluks), and Paul Schurke (SURE-key), who buddied up for several trips by dogsled to the N. Pole years ago. I ended up going the following winter on the first dogsledding trip. A definite added plus was that I got to meet Paul and his family before the trip.
Hi Renee... loved your beautiful state! Actually hit both of those National Parks. Uploaded Voyageurs... had an unexpected/unfortunate situation when we were at Isle Royale.
@@AmericasParks Oh, no…about Isle Royale. Hope you weren’t caught in the fire there! I’ll have to look for your vid on Voyageurs. We were out exploring the Colorado National Parks this week and I’ve been off grid.
Very nice video. I enjoyed all the historical details. I was recently at the Keweenaw National Historical Park in Calumet, MI and nearby locations, and was very impressed with the National Park Service's work there. Have you considered visiting there?

So true... fascinating aspect of American/Canadian history. Cool to be up there right at the portage location.
That's a great deal for a 30 foot canoe! The only other thing that surprised me is you didn't jump in the water and dry off with that pink towel lol.
