My family and I have eaten many lunches at those same picnic tables in Grand Marais. Such a great spot! You guys are doing an excellent job capturing what makes the North Shore so special. It’s fun to see you enjoying it so much.
THANK YOU!! So many vloggers ignore or gloss over this most beautiful part of our state. You are the first two I have ever seen give it the coverage it deserves. You hit the best spots! The Gunflint and boundary waters area is so unique to our country. Thank you again for such a great and thorough video of Minnesota’s Northeast. I am now a follower of your channel and will be digging into some of your past videos!
Happy Birthday, Kathryn! How fun that you got to experience air conditioning and ice cream for your birthday! Such a beautiful location. It's on our bucket list to do a Lake Superior Circle Tour so it's really fun to get to travel with you on your journey. Congrats on getting the nights at Best Western. You've been doing an amazing job and we're thrilled that you're starting to get some travel perks. Enjoy, guys. You deserve it!!!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Yes, we love visiting Lake Superior as often as possible. Just haven't done a full circle tour of it, yet. We want to do a circle tour of all of the Great Lakes at some point. Hopefully soon!
I was born and raised in MN and used to go to Grand Marais every summer with my best friend to stay at their cabin on Lake Superior. We got to see the northern lights, it was pretty cool. When I was in my 20's, I had a boyfriend who lived up the Gunflint Trail. He actually lived in a small cabin on an island in the middle of a lake and built canoes. I went up to visit him in the winter and we got in late and had to hike a mile across a frozen lake in the middle of the night when it was -20 degrees, it was ROUGH! I have to say that I prefer the mountainous West over MN any day , but it was still cool to see you in my home state!
Happy Birthday, we had our honeymoon at a lodge on the Gunflint trail 30 years ago. Beautiful and peaceful area. All the waterfalls are so beautiful. We live in Fargo area so it's nice seeing some of the local places that we've been to. Enjoy the food reviews also. Safe Travels.

Happy Birthday Kathryn!!! Thank you for such an enjoyable video! From the mystery of the Devil's Kettle Falls, the beautiful ships, and Kona trying to catch the waves....it is all so much fun!
Again so, so fun to see you exploring Minnesota. I love that you took the time to go up the Gun Flint! So years ago I was exploring up there with a few friends and we stumbled upon Hungry Jack Lodge which is, you guessed it, right on Hungry Jack Lake. We had no plan at all other than just exploring around up there and decided to just sleep at the lodge which has a few campsites you can rent. The night happened to be an incredible one so we just cowboy camped outside of our tent to sleep under the stars. I woke the next morning to something licking my face and it scared the crap out of me. Luckily it was just the local lodge dog and not a bear, but that's an experience I'll not forget!
OMGOSH! Minnesota is SO beautiful! I can see why you think this area looks like the PNW! That beaver was SOOOO dang cuuuute❣️ I’m so happy that you got to spend your birthday in coziness…that view from your Best Western room was AWWWESOME! Happy Birthday Kathryn! I have to say the highlight of this adventure would be to see that beaver up close like that! I've seen lots of bears and moose over the years and as special as that always is, I've never yet seen a beaver. Wow . . .so cool.
Happy belated birthday for last week Kathryn, it looks like you guys had such a fun and relaxing time and I am SO stoked that you're at the point where companies like Best Western are recognising your talent and you were gifted this - very much deserved and I can only hope it continues for you both. Do you know how they worked out where the other hole went from the waterfall? Curious to know if they sent scuba divers down. 12:45 - use caution 12:47 - cuts to Kathryn walking SO carefully, if it were any slower, you'd be going backwards!🤣Love it!! This area has some real Adirondack vibes going on with the lakes and swathes of green trees. Your footage of the beaver is amazing, I saw 2 late at night in Nova Scotia a few years ago, caught in the headlights so pretty lame! The magnetic rock was very cool. Adam, I was with you as I'm such a cynic, I for sure didn't think it would work!
Thank you so much! Really thankful for that hotel stay, it is SO nice to get breaks sometimes to enjoy normal luxuries like AC haha! I believe they measured the water pressure or flow rate (that’s probably the wrong term) and noticed that it was basically the same above the falls as at the bottom, which meant the same about of water was flowing even after half disappeared, if that makes sense! We cannot get over the green and water! And the super cute small towns. Making us extra excited to go more northeast!

Never been to Minnesota but loving the look of it so far!! Lake superior is so beautiful. My SO highly recommends the superior hiking trail if you guys did that at all! So excited to see what's to come and cannot wait for New England fall
Happy Belated Birthday, Kathryn! Super glad you were able to find a hot shower, hot tub, and a nice lake shore place to stay up north! Thanks for enlightening us on the taco place in Grand Marais, as well as Devil's Kettle and what there is to see on the Gunflint Trail. That would be awesome if you came back to Minnesota to canoe in the Boundary Waters! Looking forward to that video (and more)!
Grand Marais looks like such a cool town. We’ll have to check that out as well. We were so excited to see you take a detour on the gunflint trail to the boundary waters. That is where my partner took his senior trip years ago and he has the best memories of it. Do go back to do some canoeing at some point.
Well we had the guy thing, Devils Kettle Falls. Then we had the gal thing, Honeymoon Trail. Then last but not the least, a birthday suite. Happy birthday. You can follow the trail of romance:) Y'all will love a trip thru the lakes. Hope all's well and your staying safe. Was another great video. Can't wait for the next adventure. Yee-Haa!! Fasten your seat belts and lets goooooo.
Hello Adventurers😊😊, y'all just keep making me hungry. I'm just going to have to snap my fingers and show up at the table 😊😊. I'm really happy that you are enjoying the BEAUTIFUL north shore of Lake Superior. Oh, and there is nothing wrong about staying in hotels like Best Western Plus hotels as they usually offer a free hot breakfast. I can't wait to see what's next and I'm still hoping that you have some PIES at Betty's Pies and Michigan's famous Pasties!
We loved Grand Marais the couple of times that we've been there. Those taco's looked scrumptious and my husband loves Tachos! Don't know if you saw Betty's Pies on the way up in Two Harbors but if you can, go get pie! Andrew Zimmern was there and bragged about it. We did drive the Gun Flint Trail and stopped at a visitors center, museum, that had all the info about the early Gunflint trail blazers, Charlie and Petra Boostrom. Their daughter, Harriet, just happened to be there to sign books and you could talk to her. I had a wonderful conversation with her and got my book signed. I'm sure she's passed on now since she was on in years when we saw her in 2008. Wonderful and beautiful area!!
Another great video, looked pretty windy up there, I know that part of the country has experianced some rough weather the past few days, thunder storms, flood warnings in northern Minnisota, Wisconsin and Michigan so Ihope you are both safe and staying dry. Unless your in a pool at the Best Western.
It was really windy in Minnesota! Made filming pretty tough! And we had some intense storms hit us the last couple days and even a tornado siren. But we are safe! Totally wish we were at the pool lol!
Glad to see you guys enjoying Grand Marais. While watching the video, I was like are you two gonna go to the Hungry Hippie Tacos cuz you should and you did!! lol We were up there this past spring. One of the best tacos we had. Anw welcome to Minnesota!
So glad you enjoyed our state! We are heading up that way to Tofte and Grand Marais in a couple weeks. Have to try the Hippie Taco joint. Ha, look what I did. Maybe next time we will meet up! We’re only a few hours away. And Happy Birthday, young’n!
Oh this was so fun! You guys are so much fun to watch! My wife looks over at me at one point and says, “We could be friends with these people!” Yes, why yes we could!
Unfortunately our time in Ohio this fall will once again be a quick drive by, but maybe we can swing by later this year! We really want to explore more of the state!
You are great explorers indeed!!! Amazing views! If you have to return via Minneapolis, I suggest you stop at Milton's in New Hope for a portabella sandwich. It's a delicious grilled giant and meaty portabella mushroom on ciabatta with pesto, grilled red bell peppers and goat cheese... I used to drive just to have that incredibly tasty and unusual sandwich... you would love it.
@@AdventuresofAplusK It’s a favorite of mine, too! Just for special occasions; kind of pricey! But it’s a nice treat especially after shopping around and then getting some Jeni’s. (At least that’s how it was before Covid!).
Grand Marias- you weren't kidding, such a cute town. We would have gone to Devil's Kettle Falls, but the entrance was closed, and we had done 5 state parks in 3 days, and we don't hike very often, so we are VERY sore. Just gotta come back 😀
I hope you had a very happy B'day! I've not spent much time in that part of the US. Looks Nice. Thanks for the video. P.S. I called my wife and said, "Come look how much food these kids eat." It looked yummy but !!!!! THE FOOD!
I loved all your Alaska and Canada adventures! I've got some catching up to do since then. When you come back to Minnesota (hint hint..), I suggest coming up the southeastern part of Highway 61 through the beautiful Mississippi River "bluff country.". Stop in the Twin Cities, take Hwy 95 through Stillwater and Taylor's Falls, then I35 to Duluth and the North Shore! HWY 1 to Ely and the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs NP, then west to Scenic and Itasca Parks!
Another great video. This may be too late, but hopefully you can check out Naniboujou Lodge. Great food, and worth just seeing the historic dining hall. Could be the perfect romantic birthday dinner. Cheers!
Hi there...new Sub here...I really am glad I found your channel...your enthusiasm for travel is infectious...I am watching all your videos and get more excited with each one...you all remind me of Kara & Nate...Keep up the great work...much love from Texas. ✈⛽🚡🚎🚂👣
When in Grand Marais, you should've eaten at the Angry Trout (on the marina); Sven & Ole's Pizza (the iconic Scandinavian restaurant there), Naniboujou Lodge (elaborately painted murals on the ceiling, north of the town), or some of the other older places (Birch Terrace Supper Club, etc).
Lol I live in Minnesota and we go "Up North" every year. Up here on family vacation actually right now. Re-watching your string of videos for things to do. Hope you're having fun in Alaska if you're still there. 👍👍 you guys went way "up north"
"A lot of you ___holes told us last time, 'ONE taco'?!" Hey, wait.....me! I am one of those ___holes. I didn't perk up much with the "Minnesota" thing ("well, it isn't the West, but, you know...") but I was wrong. It looks amazing and I think my wife would be into it, too (as long as we go in summer, of course). I wondered, "God, how long have they been cooped up in that van?", when Kathryn did back-flips for Best Western. It's like getting excited about eating at Denny's (nothing against either franchise; Denny's omelets are not bad, but I digress). Thing is, you can't beat that view of the "inland sea" right from the balcony. Too awesome. Happy belated 29th, K.
In the mid 70s, the last 20 miles of the gunflint was still a gravel road. Then they paved it to federal standards. 2 12 foot lanes with 8 foot paved shoulders. So big rvs could get to the end. This just f77ked up the experience of a trip up he gunflint.
Lake Superior is the largest fresh water lake in the world. We took some colorful rocks from the shoreline at Grand Marais home with us. When dry they just look like rocks. When they get wet from rain, they get their color back.

We will definitely be back! And having to not worry about the many van things we have to think about daily was the best birthday gift!
Happy Birthday 🎂 We really enjoyed this video. Those tater tot nachos sounded yummy 😋
They were sooo good! And thank you!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy!
Love you like the North Shore of my home state. You will have many more exciting adventures as you travel down towards Duluth.
The next adventure was jam packed with cool spots!
Grand Marais looks like such a cool town. We’ll have to check that out as well. We were so excited to see you take a detour on the gunflint trail to the boundary waters. That is where my partner took his senior trip years ago and he has the best memories of it. Do go back to do some canoeing at some point.
That’s awesome! And we definitely will!
HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!! You guys are awesome. Enjoy!!
Thank you Steve!
Great episode.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Haha thank you! It was a great birthday!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Your welcome and i'm sure it was.
A little van break is always nice to take some stress off! And we will definitely be eating both, one will be in the next video!
WOW so fun to see you in my neck of the woods! Great job showcasing northern MN :)
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Wow that is amazing that you were able to catch his daughter there! And pies will be in our next video 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Well done!! Skizzles, tacos & tiny beaver hands!!! Wooohooo! I want to go to MInnesota!👍
Hahaha three of the best things!
Glad to see you guys enjoying Grand Marais. While watching the video, I was like are you two gonna go to the Hungry Hippie Tacos cuz you should and you did!! lol We were up there this past spring. One of the best tacos we had. Anw welcome to Minnesota!
We loved it! Went again the next day haha
Really enjoying your channel, love your positive, upbeat energy and top-notch video production skills!
Thanks, Eric!
Judge C.R. Magney State Park is one of my favorite places, as is Grand Marais. If I didn't live in Minnesota, I would have to visit often. ❤️
We stayed at the Best Western. The view of the lake is GORGEOUS 😍.
Such an amazing hotel location!
Hope your birthday was great! Happy belated birthday!!
Thank you Lorena!
So glad you enjoyed our state! We are heading up that way to Tofte and Grand Marais in a couple weeks. Have to try the Hippie Taco joint. Ha, look what I did. Maybe next time we will meet up! We’re only a few hours away. And Happy Birthday, young’n!
Hahaha that's funny! 😂 We went back the next day and Adam got the burrito and loved it as well!
@@AdventuresofAplusK oh yummy!
That place looked amazing and Happy Birthday!! I just turned 29 on the 1st as well 😎
Ah nice! Happy belated to you!
Oh this was so fun! You guys are so much fun to watch! My wife looks over at me at one point and says, “We could be friends with these people!” Yes, why yes we could!
Yes we sure could! And we consider you one of our online friends, hopefully one day we can golf together!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Yes please! Once you get to Ohio let us know! I’m so excited!
Unfortunately our time in Ohio this fall will once again be a quick drive by, but maybe we can swing by later this year! We really want to explore more of the state!
Keep rocking it 😎
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
One of the classic food choices of the North Shore is smoked salmon. You must give it a try while you are there.
We missed it this time, but hopefully in the future!
Happy Birthday!🎂🎉
Thank you!
Kathryn, HAPPY BIRTHDAY😊😊🎉🎉🍕🍕🍕🍔🍔🎂🎂🎂!
Thank you! ❤️❤️
We wish we could've gone to Minneapolis, but our route kept us more North this time!
@@AdventuresofAplusK get it on your to do list for someday. 😀
Happy 29th Birthday!! And Jeni’s ice cream; made here where I live - Columbus, OH! I would love to try the Maple Latte!
Thank you so much! And we love Jeni’s! It’s in our top 5 in the US!
Just gotta come back 😀
The North Shore is worthy of many trips!
Happy Birthday !!!
Thank you!
Happy birthday girl! 😃🥳
Thank you!
Great day, 👍
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Happy birthday 🎂🎁🎈!
Thank you!
I hope you had a very happy B'day! I've not spent much time in that part of the US. Looks Nice. Thanks for the video.
P.S. I called my wife and said, "Come look how much food these kids eat." It looked yummy but !!!!! THE FOOD!
Hahah that’s actually all we ate that day! We were VERY full!
We're very excited to come back to MN! There's so much to see and do! Thanks for the tips and thanks for watching!
Another great video. This may be too late, but hopefully you can check out Naniboujou Lodge. Great food, and worth just seeing the historic dining hall. Could be the perfect romantic birthday dinner. Cheers!
We almost swung by there, but ran out of time 😭
Hi there...new Sub here...I really am glad I found your channel...your enthusiasm for travel is infectious...I am watching all your videos and get more excited with each one...you all remind me of Kara & Nate...Keep up the great work...much love from Texas. ✈⛽🚡🚎🚂👣
Thanks for the kind words and for watching Cynthia!
Those looked yummy too, but we were very happy with Hungry Hippie 😊 but there’s always next time!
Lol I live in Minnesota and we go "Up North" every year. Up here on family vacation actually right now. Re-watching your string of videos for things to do. Hope you're having fun in Alaska if you're still there. 👍👍 you guys went way "up north"
We're still here in Alaska and loving it! We're glad you're enjoying those videos! We had a great time in the area!
Minnesota is amazing! We’re glad we can show you how beautiful it is. And van breaks are always good, especially that air conditioning!
Tacos and friggin BEAUTIFUL nature. Life couldn't be sweeter right?
You got that right!
In the mid 70s, the last 20 miles of the gunflint was still a gravel road. Then they paved it to federal standards. 2 12 foot lanes with 8 foot paved shoulders. So big rvs could get to the end. This just f77ked up the experience of a trip up he gunflint.
Bummer. But now more people can easily experience it, which is a good thing in our eyes as long as people respect it
Lake Superior is the largest fresh water lake in the world. We took some colorful rocks from the shoreline at Grand Marais home with us. When dry they just look like rocks. When they get wet from rain, they get their color back.
We LOVE Lake Superior!!
