    Just to Clarify for the two of you, when Ron said "How thick can you get" (Referring to Crabbe & Goyle- Malfoy's pals) He wasn't shaming their weight. The books & movies were made decades prior to current social norms. In this context "Thick" meant dense, idiotic, or foolish. It is sometimes also used to refer to someones skull being too thick; In other words they don't learn easily, or they often repeat the same mistakes.

      it isn't even about societal norms. British English just uses that word in that way, far more commonly than Americans.

    • @elvendragonhammer5433
      @elvendragonhammer5433 2 месяца назад +1

      @@_pumpkin-pie It is about social norms, as they automatically thought it's meaning was referring to weight. Even if it is used more commonly in Britain, it was still a very commonly used phrase here, we heard either that or "thick as a rock" used almost daily when I was a kid. You just assume it's used more where you live. You also don't understand the meaning of the phrase social norms.
      Social norms are the perceived informal, mostly unwritten, rules that define acceptable and appropriate actions within a given group, community, or society- thus guiding human behavior.
      A social norm is created when individuals practice a behavior because they believe that others like them or in their community practice the behavior. This shows how "thick" you are, as use of the word, it's phrasing, context, & time period are all formed because it in & of itself it is part of a social norm that existed before we were born.

      @@_pumpkin-pie I'm not the fool that misunderstood; the definition proves me right & you wrong- period. If you need help with reading comprehension, which seems to be the case, I can give you a list of some places that should be able to help you though, assuming you actually want to learn, instead of just staying "thick" for the rest of your life.

    That scene with the polyjuice where Maljoy says, "I didn't know you could read," was improvised. The actor forgot his next line and came up with that on the spot, and they chose to keep it.

  • @Heida77
    @Heida77 4 месяца назад +12

    Fun facts/answers to some of your questions:
    Before Christian Coulson was cast as Tom Riddle, Eddie Redmayne, who later played Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts films (a prequel/spin-off to Harry Potter), auditioned for the role.
    Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) originally auditioned for Lockhart. He is also the voice of the basilisk.
    Tom Felton improvised Draco's "I didn't know you could read" to Harry disguised as Goyle because he forgot his line. Furthermore, Lucius' and Harry's exchange just before Lucius leaves Dumbledore's office was completely improvised by the actors on the spot. Jason Isaacs said "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" and Daniel Radcliffe immediately replied "Don't worry, I will be".
    And Lucius starts to use the Killing Curse "Avada Kedavra" on Harry after leaving Dumbledore's office. To actually try to kill a child in the middle of a school makes him seem quite dumb. But Jason Isaacs explained that the book didn't mention any specific spell and this was the only one he could remember.
    I think there are two main reasons why Harry doesn't tell Dumbledore or one of the teachers about the voice he hears. 1.
    He already feels like a 'freak' so he doesn't want more attention on himself by being the person who can hear voices no one else can. 2. Growing up at the Dursleys, Harry has a hard time putting much trust into adults. Plus, the teachers couldn't protect him during his first year and when they tried to tell McGonagall about the stone she didn't listen.
    It's almost universally agreed upon that the films did Ron dirty. One of the most notable ways was how most of his best lines were given to Hermione. One notable example of this is when Hermione is the one to explain what "Mudblood" means instead of Ron. In the book, Ron is also the one who points out how ridiculous the whole idea of wizarding blood supremacy is (instead of Hagrid).
    In the book it's revealed that Filch is actually a Squib, which is a non-magical person who is born with at least one magical parent (kind of the opposite of a Muggleborn).
    Hermione and Ron's awkward non-hug was the result of Emma Watson being embarassed to hug both Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in front of everyone, with her hugging Daniel during filming having to be frozen for a few seconds to get the desired effect due to her breaking the hug too quickly.
    Foreign language translations had to change Tom Marvolo Riddle's name, so that an appropriate anagram could be formed. In Icelandic (my language) his name is "Trevor Délgome" which aligns with "Ég er Voldemort".
    A sweet behind the scenes story is that during production, Emma Watson frequently brought her pet hamster Millie on set but, unfortunately, Millie passed away shortly after filming began. The set department created a specially-made hamster coffin for her.

    28:11 - In British slang, "thick" is another way to call someone "stupid" or "unintelligent". So when Ron said "How thick could you get?" he was actually commenting on how easy it was to trick Goyle and Crabbe, not their weight.
    Though, I can understand the confusion given the literal defintion of the word. 😅

    Probably the Movie Munchies girls noticed that Dumbledore's actor changed. (it's not a spoiler because you've already watched more films from the saga on Patreon). Chamber of Secrets was one of the last films by actor Richard Harris (Dumbledore), who passed away in 2002. Harris was in the film Gladiator, which you reacted to. He played the impredaor Marcus Aurelius, who was murdered by his son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). In the next films in the saga, Dumbledore will be played by actor Michael Gambon, who also passed away in 2023 with pneumonia. Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape, and Robbie Coltrane, who played Rubeus Hagrid, also passed away.

    2 things about Rons wand. The wand chooses the wizard as mentioned by Olivander in the first movie and it was a hand me down from his older brother who you wont see in the movies until much later, and it was broken. So Ron's wand was resisting him and his spells. The teacher didnt know that and when he tried to curse Harry and Ron it backfired and did his memory permantly. The teacher isnt mentioned the movies again but he is in the books. Ron is actually a pretty good wizard. In the movies it isnt really shown.

    At the end, when Harry tells him "There’s no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid", it's super significant because throughout the whole movie one of the main themes is the fear that Hagrid is actually evil, how they find him in the bad alley, how Harry discovers he was expelled from school in third year for, supposedly, opening the chamber of secrets, how he is led to prison. And, at the end, when he was proven innocent, Harry telling him that was so great, like not only he is innocent, but he's algo what makes Hogwarts to be Hogwarts!

    If it helps at all, the basilisk is in fact a legless lizard and not a snake. The basilisk can blink, has visible ear holes, many teeth and it's head is more lizard shaped. Snakes can't blink, their ears aren't that prominent, have either fangs or no teeth and their heads are shaped differently.

    • @LegioXXI
      @LegioXXI 4 месяца назад +3

      This is factually wrong. The Basilisk is always referred as a snake and Parsel tongue also only just work with actual snakes.
      And in the book, the visual description of the Basilisk is completely snake-like. It's only the movie that took creative liberties in making it more reptilian or dragon-like (and also wayyy larger - how is that huge thing supposed to roam within Hogwart's plumbing?).
      So the only true statement would be, that the *movie design* of the Basilisk is more like a lizard, but canon wise (books > movies) it is a snake.

They are poorer than poor and rather marry their cousins than marry muggles. Voldemort mother is what they would call "Blood Tratior" she was in love with Tom Riddle ll and put him under a love spell but it wore off and he freaked out about the magical world, Voldemort killed him himself for that and kept two family heirlooms; a locket own by Salazar and a ring to a common ancestor he has with Harry Potter

    Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings are very very similar, JK Rowling was a big fan of Tolkien. Game of thrones also takes a lot of Lord of the Rings.

    The Four Houses, really represent different types of pride people have. Gryffindor is for the people who think they’re always brave, Slytherin are competitive and want to win at any cost, Ravenclaws feel intellectually superior, and Hufflepuff are those nice people who always sacrifice themselves for others’ well-being. The truth is we are all four of these things when we grow up and become a mature adult

    Viet reactors with engaging poses. Bunchies matched with big red roses. Little white halter tops tied up with strings, these are a few of my favourite things...

    Chi and Hella should read the books, they're even better than the movies, like A LOT better which is crazy! Most books are better than the films they make out of them, I wonder if they know that, I wonder if they even know this series is based on books.
