- Max Factor was born Maksymilian Faktorowicz in Congress Poland, and later moved to Moscow where he was employed as a wig maker.
After immigrating to the United States in 1904, Factor moved his family and business to Los Angeles, California, seeing an opportunity to provide made-to-order wigs and theatrical make-up to the growing film industry. Besides selling his own make-up products he soon became the West Coast distributor of both Leichner and Minor, two leading theatrical make-up manufacturers.
In the early years of movie-making, greasepaint in stick form, although the accepted make-up for use on the stage, could not be applied thinly enough, nor did the colors work satisfactorily on the screen.
Factor began experimenting with various compounds in an effort to develop a suitable make-up for the new film medium. By 1914 he had perfected his first cosmetic product. With this major achievement to his credit, Max Factor became the authority on cosmetics in film-making. Soon movie stars were eager to sample his "flexible greasepaint".

These old commercials were hypnotizing. 🌸
These ARE indeed, even nowadays. 🤩
I love these commercials better than the ones of today , I was born in 1973
I agree
A cream puff and a pearl neckless is all a girl needs.
I just went to eBay and bought an old Max Factor lipstick case.😂 All because of watching this video. 💄
That's so fun. Old advertising is so much more effective than new.
These are fabulous. I have a FB page devoted to mid-century fashion -- makeup was such a large part of the look of both the '50s and '60s.
As a collector yes I have a couple of vintage max factor cosmetics
Tomorrow I turn 58. Looking at these I am literally asking, "What planet did they film in?" Unrecognizable world.
Beautiful and feminine also very creative
ماكس فاكتور 😢❤
I feel like it took a lot less to be good looking back then. Now you’ve got to have a sharp jawline, big lips, all of that. But this seems more achievable.
#MAXFACTOR 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Anyone else say the guy turn his head too early on the second commercial 😂
01:26 This is not a very thorough base application: )
where can i find this kind of music?
Is that Frances Conroy in the third ad?
Is she with her father at the opera?
Is that chiffon?
😅😅
Nobody is going to say anything of young Joan Collins in the last Creme Puff ad...(?)
You fool that was not young collins
