If your hard drive sounds like this one, then it is most likely means the drive is dead :(
If you are lucky enough and still can access your files on it, then hurry up and back all your data before it is too late.
WARNING: Never attempt to open your new and expensive hard drives like this one.. Opening it like this will cause a major damage. The hard drive is like a CD discs which are encapsulated in a case free of dust .So be careful!! Наука
If you think about how small the error margins on these things are, it is amazing that they work at all
Ikr! You have a bunch of SUPER sensitive metal platter spinning at 5000, 7000, hey, sometimes up to 10,000 RPM, and all it takes is that arm scratching the surface, and wave goodbye to 50 gigabytes in an instant.
There are definitely a lot of fashinating technology and science behind these things.
Lol
A friend of my dad's said years ago about DOS-era computing that "It's like a dancing bear- the impressive thing is not that it's dancing well, it's that its dancing at ALL!"
It really is super crude if you think about it isn't it? 😂
Sounds like my old ps3 trying to read GTA V.
Lol or my Xbox 360 running gtaIV
Sounds like a jet engine in the process
Its because xbox 360 and ps3 have HDD. Suprisingly some of the ps4 and xbox 1 units have them as well.
@@baileymackie1949 sorry, all ps4 and xbox one also have HDD. unless a person manually upgraded theirs, They all come with spinner drives.

Hard drives make no sense to me. How does somebody spin a metal plate and store data with a knife?
same way it's done with vinyls and record players I'd imagine.
flap cat
Science!
+DarkByke Twitch Hard drives work magneticly when data is written to the platter! :)
I find it hard to believe you can literally store computer files on sticks and yet we use them all the time.
It's not a knife, it's a magnet that reads binary code burned into the disc, each binary code is called a bit, 8 bits make a byte, a thousand bytes make a kilobyte a thousand kilobytes make a megabyte a thousand megabytes make a gigabyte, a thousand gigabytes make a terabyte, and so on and so forth.
Even more importantly, never actually power on a HDD with the cover removed. Opening the drive alone usually won't do much damage (unless it's a helium-filled drive or one of those infamous WD(?) drives where the head stack is positioned using the case cover screws), but powering up an open drive, even in a clean room with protective equipment, is almost guaranteed death for modern drives.
well his hdd is dead anyway

I always wonder.... How do they make platters spinning at 7200 rpm with a head moving across the surface in less than a 10 of a width of a hair from the platter, moving back and fourth tens of times per second, while working flawlessly, even while being moved around? Hard drives are truly fascinating.
It basically “floats on air”. the reader head is specially designed to be very aerodynamic and lightweight. On both sides of the reader head, there are drag and air pressure differences created by the rapidly spinning disks. These air pressure differences allow it to self correct its position to avoid collisions. If it swings too far away from the platter, aerodynamics will pull it back down. If it swings too close to the platter, increasing air pressure and drag towards the platter will push it back away, thereby avoiding a collision.
It’s remarkably precise. And essentially aerodynamics and a handful of air molecules are all that exist between the reader arm and the platter. Even a spec of dust is enough to create a hard drive crash if it were to somehow get through the drive’s filter.
Edit: it’s also worth noting that areodynamics can only protect the platters when the disk is spinning, as the drag required to float the heads isn’t present when the drive is off. Hard drives avoid this problem by moving the heads off to the side before spinning down the disk. In general, drop resistance is significantly superior when the drive is off than when it is spinning.
@@photoniccannon2117 So I should turn off my hard drives before drop testing them, thanks, how about SSDs?
@@satsumagt5284 SSDs have zero moving parts, they could probably survive a remarkable amount of abuse honestly. Now you have me curious. 😂
@@photoniccannon2117 Never tried hammering my 970 EVO or dropping my laptop (Samsung Notebook Odyssey 2), but I don’t think either would end up well
@@satsumagt5284 In some places in Europe, data security laws are strict enough to incentivize manufactures to require consumers to literally physically destroy SSDs before returning them. Not sure how often that’s actually done, but folks have brought out drills to destroy them before.
This was painful to watch. Just put that poor HDD out of its misery already...
I have a question please answer!
Last week my Laptop suddenly has been shutdowned after it I could not turn on my Notebook anymore.
Or rather: my Notebook cannot boot up anymore

Or should I buy new things like motherboard or an new battary?
Is that possible that all of the parts have been damaged because of the Hard drive? Need professional answer pls!

So i unplugged it and then tried it the next day when it started vibrating a few seconds apart. But still not able to access the hard drive. I'm planning on giving it to a Seagate service center to salvage whatever i can if possible. What do you think? Is it a goner or do i have some hope.?
This track is my favorite. I always listen to this on my way to work.

This was why my computer sounded like this constantly when trying to read a disc, but never would read it
my hard drive started buzzing but i shook it a little, re mounted it, and it works fine now
Situation : Start, stop and loop the steps!
Solution : Try to move the header with special tools.
The amount of people who have no idea how a hard drive works/didn't know that a hard drive looked like that makes me sadder than knowing the fact that the drive is broken
As I do know what one looks like. How would the average Joe know without looking into it or googling an image.
Yep...
I think I know how one works... SOmewhat.
So, correct me of I'm wrong,
But...
The disk is where the Data and your OS is stored, and the Needle on ther ereads all the Data, and, if you take the cover off of the Hard drive, there is a risk of hurting yourself.
Thanks for the video you saved all my music and movies your the best thanks my hard drive did nearly fail this morning so I put all my music onto a new different hard drive and my hard drive died 20 mins ago
So basically, it does the following:
Gradually spins up to 5400 or 7200 or whatever RPM the drive can handle.
Slows to a halt.
Cycle repeats.
what exactly is the little click that it makes every couple of seconds? Is that the fault or is it just part of the process but the HHD is not able to go further?
Its not dead!!! Thats the selftest! YOU KILLED IT!
Hi, which model is this HDD ? Thanks.
Sounds like my washing machine if I accidentally put my nickel inside it.
My laptop hard drive kind of sounds like that except the disk spinning is not loud at all. I can here the arm shifting to different parts of the disk and sometimes it causes a little stutter during use.
I had this issue opened up the drive and carefully moved the knife back into the pin but it keeps going back onto the plate. How do u keep the knife pinned from falling onto the plate?
OMFG my shitty headphones have a habit of pausing videos, starting music and opening Siri when you mess with the cord, and this time it paused the video, started playing “temmie village” from undertale, both at the same time, which led me to believe the video was a prank.
I should probably get new headphones...
Thanks for your help :)
You can recover the data tough by changing head or using that mag. Disk to working drive
Interesting... What operating system was on it?
I have a hard drive that spins up to rpm in the booting process and after a while ill hear the motor die for not even a second then it will rev back up to normal speeds, what does this mean? Should also mention I upgraded cpu, mb, ram, gpu, and on the previous system I didnt have this problem. When I booted up the system with the parts in it windows had to repair the disk for some reason.
My hdd is making a booming sound. Simultaneously the 2nd drive of 4 is also started making a screeching noise. I put in different HDDs that i had in a storage box idle. They all seem to not read well. Tried different SATA ports too. What can be possibly going on ?
Hey, on the bright side nobody will find your 512GB stash of porn on the HDD.
My computer started making this weird constant clicking noise and I don't know how to stop it any advice?
Hi
I have changed my ps4 HDD , sometimes i hear long single beep
Should i be worried?
When your drive that contains your favorite pronz goes bad.
This is why it's important to make a second backup on an optical disk while the drive is still alive.
I hear that click when it speeds up, is that sound a "broken like" sound?
that thing that reads the disk is probably stuck or something because if it's dead you should hear or see it try 4 different places then back and repeats
0:51 that was some freaky 16 bit sonic sound affects shit and bells going on.
This is terrifying imo
This just sounds like my ps2 reading a Shrek DvD
That is how my hard drive sounds like too... It is actually not broken but you need to clean the platter out in order to make it work again then use hard drive diagnose to test it
If you open the HDD it's game over for the drive end of discussion

Some people say the same thing, but it doesn't work. If you have some bad sectors, the only thing that maybe can solve it is going with a technician and try to repair the sectors, but if the problem is physical or mechanical, such as scratched platters or misaligned heads, there is only a chance of 10% that any professional can recover it, but in most cases, you will need to buy a new hard drive.
