This is a video guide that shows how to use HddSurgery tools (Head Combs) to change damaged heads on new 2.5" Seagate hard drive families 5400.6, 5400.5, 5400.4, 5400.3, 5400.2, 7200.5, 7200.4, 7200.3, Momentus Thin, Freeplay, Momentus PSD and some other families which park their heads on a ramp. During the whole procedure of head replacement, there is no contact between the heads and platters or between the heads themselves. This is only a promotional video. When working with patient drives, clean room standards must be followed.
You can find more information about these tools and many other data recovery tools on our website.

>HDDSurgery - Head replacement process on 2.5" Seagate hard drives
You're out here doing good work, keep it up.
In spite of the criticisms left by some, here, I thought the instruction process was most professional, clear and easy to follow.Presumably for those like myself attempting to recover data from a drive with damaged heads then if all I have is my spare room to try it out then that will have to do.
Thanks very much for this.
Thank you Bob.

This video is a therapy for both the hard disk and our ears..
Thank you :)
I may need to do this soon. I just got an estimate of $3K USD to recover my 4TB external seagate. Bloody Hell. Very informative video! Very clear and good ambient music. Here's hoping I am able to successfully get my stuff back! Fingers crossed.
how it went?
Update?
How did it go? Did you get your stuff back?
@@joshuaboltz I never tried it after all. I found I had a backup somewhere for about 80percent of what was on it. I decided to just lose the 20percent. I might try it later as an experiment. I'll update when I do.
@@Bishop2563 i think you will need very clean envrionment otherwise the data will be corrupted/lost. It's easy if you can get it running but lose all the data. It's all about the precious data, not how it can be fixed.
Instructive video helpful for those learning about external hard drive mechanics. This one helps diyers learn "how to" procedural steps. Nice
VERY nicely detailed video. Note how the guy selling tools to do the job shows precisely how to do it as his tool sells better if customers succeed. Note how data recovery shop videos are very rushed and lack detail as they benefit when diyers fail and have to send the job to them ROFL
InstaBlaster.
Highly spiritual background music ☺. Thanks
Awsome ,i loved this so detailed butifully filmed ,and perfect mucic, thankyou.steve from the uk
Thank you for the video. It's exactly what I was looking for. Also, I prefer your method of video too, background music with instructional text vs narration by instructor
Have you done it??
I have a old 60GB hard drive that the head wasnt reading properly. The data recovery company didn't recover my data properly as they have recovered 16% of the data which it should have been 95%. I'm thinking about doing this myself, I know how to build a small box with cardboard box with a fan on it, vacuum to get the dust out, a filter, and the fans to blow the dust out. I know how to do this, but the problem is will I lose my data if I swap the head that come with same model number and first 3 charchers of the serial number?
Does the data recovery companies use a small box to keep the box clean from dusts and does they put the hard drive in it to replace the hard and put the hard drive on the computer to recover the data??
It looks like most does use the small box to put the hard drive in it so why not I can do it myself if they use small box with clean air??
Well done guys easy to follow excellent stuff!
Same😊

hey, what the main requirements swapping Platters? Does the hard drive must be with the same capacity, model, version? or just the same make and similar look?
thanks!
Beautifully presented
I made my own head clamping tool from match wood, it worked well enough. My Seagate one touch 2TB does not have a screw holding the head actuator in place, neither on top or on the bottom. In the case of a drive such as mine, you have to be very careful indeed when removing the headset ( it just lifts off with tweezers), because the magnet is still in place and it can grab the actuator as you lift it off, with potential damage to the platter surface. The bottom R/W head on mine had become detached. So now to find out how to remove the platter without losing the disc ailgnment. Probably really easy like the rest of this stuff which would be best done by a surgeon :) :)
THIS IS SWEET VIDEO
Simplemente un poema de trabajo saludos
The best video I've ever seen! :-D
This worked for me! Thank you!
Where did you buy a new head from?

Have you done it and did it works??
I enjoyed the ambient electronic spacey music you chose for this video. Very dreamy and futuristic. Mind if I ask who wrote it? Also, thanks for the very detailed instruction for those who want to attempt these repairs themselves.
the track is called "I Don't See the Branches, I See the Leaves" by Chris Zabriskie. it reminds me of "Treefingers" by Radiohead, coincidentally(?) another tree reference.
You are pro man,,,👍🏻
Nice job
nice video, but do you change the very tiny copper coils on the ends of long arms?
Amazing
nice tips master ❤️❤️🙏
Hi to replace the head does the heads have to be same serial code numbers? Or can i replace them from the same model and just do a straight swap?
after that..can it be read on pc???or needed $$$$$ software to recover files
What about a 2.5" HGST drive? do you have tools for that? I can't see it on your web site.
hey there, where can i get the tools to hold the arm head? or is it hand-made?
The music, reminds me of old PC Horror games.
Haha very old..
It's more like ambient electronic space music to me, very dreamy and futuristic.
ME TO!
Sir yeh projact mujhe chaiye kiya mujhe mil sata he
Are you on drugs, brah 🤣
i think the video is great and how much does the tools cost thank you
Great clear informative video, thanks!

@@chris01479 Hey Chris, No I haven't personally tried this method (or any other method). But seeing as you already brought it to a recovery company, there really isn't much to lose in my eyes. Best case you can fix your hdd and maybe get some more data from it, worst case you mess it up and that's that. To answer your question regarding cleanrooms/boxes. Companies will usually have clean rooms where the entire room is free from dust and orther particulates. But if you want to try it yourself, it is of course hardly doable to get an entire room this clean. Your best bet will be a cardboard or better yet an old plastic container to use as a cleanroom. These are just my suggestions and ideas as an amature, but I hope this may help you in some way. Good luck! And I hope you can recover your data!
Sir salute 👍
Love the video! We know that hard drives can sometimes be a nuisance, but don't worry! Our SalvageData service has been doing data recovery since 2003 and we are still strong. We have a success rate of over 96%, which is a testament to the value you get from us when your drive needs to be repaired or replaced today.
Nice backing music!
Play at 2x speed will help you a lot
Awesome.
when replacing the heads on my drive, they will not flow into the groves on the guide. heads seem to be a bit high. Any thoughts.
What about those heads, they are working from different hdd models or?
Anyone telling you look like Iron Man? ^_^ Thank you so much for your video.
great video I am curious which is better purely from a data recovery stand point replaced the heads or transfer the platter to a donor driver with good heads or transfer the heads from a donor driver.
Did you end up doing either of the options?
Does replacing the head immediately allow the contents of the harddrive to be read?
Thanks
So how do we know if that head is really the problem that it needs replacement? My hardisk is detected by the motherboard and I can hear it spinning but I cant boot it up, reformat or install windows in it. the pc say's "read disk error"
It very amazing
Sorry to ask, but where I could buy one of these head alignment tools?
what is the "tool" called that you put in between the heads? And can any head from any drive (different brand, etc.) by used as donor?
Following

Wonder if this can recover a hard disk with so-called death click. Of course there is also Western Digital, Hitachi, Toshiba, Samsung, HGST, WD Blue, WDC, but it seems they are all quite similar from inside.
can any 2.5" hdd's header fit to any same size HDD or is there any specific one. Actually my HDD having header problem & I want replace it.
can i fix ROW HDD by doing that ?
where to buy actuator arm ? mine is damaged and i want to replace the arm please help me
So what does the tool actually do? can you attempt such a recovery without the tool?
where can i get spare read/write head
Hi! Thanks for your instructive videos! I have a Toshiba 2.5", 320 GB internal HDD. Actually,is the main drve of my laptop. Nothing happened to the computer: no damages of any kind. But the disk stopped working. I heard a clicking noise. I oppened the drive. It is a 2 plates,4 heads drive, I connected it and I saw: perfect plates, moving step by step (like moved by a step by step motor, right?). And the heads fixed outside the plates, I mean without touching the plates at all. Should I suppose that the heads are damaged, and, may be,the disk has any kind of protection (¿?) to avoid the heads damaging the plates....¿?)
/////????
this is for a Seagate, does this apply to a western digital???
after few second of spin, it stop what may be the problem in my case head or motor?

Help! I have a 250gb Seagate FreeAgent GO, I can't find anywhere to acquire a replacement Actuator Arm for my device. Can anyone please tell me where I can buy this component?
Love how the process takes about 20 minutes with the correct tools, yet I am told it will cost me $1500 to get done. Which I charged that bullshit rate. Perhaps I should take up the business myself.
You can by new hard drives for $50-$200 don't pay that much to fix it. Get a new one have a teck recover all/any info you need, pics, movies, files. And put them on a thumb drive and reinstall. Should be around $100 for recovery data.

can anyone tell me what does it mean 50% matching head? The person who is trying to get the data off my 2.5 Seagate barracuda pro he said the board was problematic, the motor received high voltage therefore it was spinning too fast and the head was also defective. He said he found a head but it is just 50% match...??? when I asked him, what does that mean he said he will update me later.
My 4tb Seagate drive dropped *once.* After a few weeks the drive died while installing a game. I hate it so much, now I am stuck without any storage space and my graphics card failed as well. Repairing both is too expensive, I have not played any big game on my Laptop in months.
