Another great video Scott! My go to is the standard 7 1/4, followed by a 10", and occasionally an 8 1/4, and on the rare occasion a 16".

I got a 12 inch wood cutting blade for my Stihl cutoff saw, definitely a little over kill and quite dangerous but it's definitely helpful, got to use one of those over sized skill saws building a custom home and it's definitely worth the cost
We used to use spax in the UK for installing pvc doubled glazed windows and doors, they are a quality fixing. Job turned out well mate. 👍

Try using your cordless drill on setting 1 when putting in massive screws like this , gives the wrist a workout but saves your impact driver!

Scott, that large wall capping looked like you put it with the bark side down. If your pt pine is anything like ours in Philadelphia when the sun hits it the ends will cup up and the board will hold water. We try to install our pt with the bark side up. Hopefully you have a more stable pt than we do. Nice project!

Have a look at Matt Cremona's saw, he has a, I think it is called a beam saw .... even bigger!
I was a little worried about installing the blade after reading a couple of reviews. But it was amazingly easy. Took about 1 minute. Works great ruclips.net/user/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.

Hi Scott I love your videos they are very interesting and informative. Was looking for some advice I want to get a saw that I can cut sheets down on but don't know weather to get a track saw or table saw. Was also wondering if a track saw is able to do small rips on wood like a table saw would.

Thanks for another great video. A quick question: if that rough sawn timber is 50mm thick, then why your cordless Makita wouldn't do the job? If I saw it right it's 165mm blade with max cut depths of 55mm. Thanks.

I used to have a Hitachi skill saw that size, it died from being kept in a damp garage, ended up needing it recently to rip some 4" stock in half, ended up using the festool ts55 (with the fence not the track) and flipping it upside and cutting through the other half.

I use the same saw for all my finishing work. Just finished doing skirts and architraves. Keeps the painters busy.

where I grew up, thats a normal size makita. my old man never even carried a 7 1/4 until he was over 50. just two 9 1/4 inch makitas. one with a ripping blade, one with a finishing blade.
If you were cutting down kitchen cabinets to size, would you use the track saw or just the circular? Or even a jigsaw?

Funny I was going to ask about the countersink drill bit too...
I was thinking about storing the table you made. Would it be viable to recess hinges into the table centre so it could fold in half for storage. This should be possible as long as the top material of the table was strong enough to support the other half through the hinges.

I just bought a saw this size (235mm) a couple of days ago. Went for the Bosch GKS 85 G which runs on a track, like the Festool HK85 and Mafell KSS80 but much cheaper (€266). Sometimes Makita is not the right answer ;-)
I love makita blades. Is that what you had in the track saw?
If that won't cut it, check out the Makita 5402! I use it building log homes and also have the Hitachi c15fb, like my big saws 😁

I think it's a blu-mol countersink. They work great.
@@lachlancampbell989 Don't think you can get Carbitool stuff over there.... I had to send some of the countersinks over to NZ for my old man. Nothing compares, they are the best!
The counter sink but is deck fast. They sell them at the merchants here. Spax sell that T50 impact bit for those screws in particular. I'm not sure about their impact rating but they seem to hold up
@@ScottBrownCarpentry love the spax construction screws, makes jobs in the garden so much easier and allows me to make knockdown brutalist style furniture with heavy duty materials for inside and out.
You know about the blade adjustments an how an when to use them. So many ppl just. Cut with blade all the way down for everything.

I bought the flexvolt DCS577n xe rear handle skillsaw. Now my 9 1/4 hitachi seems a bit gutless.
It would seem that way. That Dewalt is putting out 2400W. You will never find a corded tool doing that because the maximum current on a standard 230v outlet is 10A. Watts = volts x amps so that's 2300W. However manufacturers have to leave a margin, so 2000W the maximum you will find on a corded tool. It will make the lights dim on startup, and will struggle on long leads.
And the old farts still think battery tools are gutless.
The rear handle isn't for me, too nose heavy and on a blade of that size I don't feel the need for that kind of power. The other Flexvolt saw is 1600W and I have never had it bog down. Its so quite you don't need earmuffs, which makes everyone think it's gutless, but it cuts everything like butter.
@tools reckon your 12v can do those 180mm spax screws? my sub compact can - no drama. 👍
I'm sure 12v tools can do that, but why? I just don't get the 12v thing. It seems pointless.

Not length, height. Yes, it requires handrail, it's 1.6M from memory of the last vid.
